Kai's eyes met Enzo's, a mutual respect passing between them. Enzo continued, his tone softer, "Now I understand why you both chose to be brother and sister rather than anything else. You two are just alike."

Enzo smiled and reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, delicate ring.

"This is the only thing I have left of my mother’s. I was going to ask her to marry me, but if I don’t make it out of this, please give it to her for me. Tell her to wear it, even if she marries someone else."

Kai's heart ached at the sight of the ring. "Listen, we’re going to be alright," he said, trying to revive the dead hope, but the words were barely out of his mouth when the door burst open with a deafening crash, and people began to flood in.
