Chapter 129: Ultimatum

The silence filled the conversation after Trisha said those words.

‘This bitch… She’s pushing me to my limits, huh?’ Zayne thought, his jaw tightening and his nostrils flaring in anger. ‘Does she really think I won’t be able to do anything to her because I’m in this situation right now?’

Trisha’s slap still stings, and the pain she wanted to give him wasn’t just physical, but mental and emotional.

Her sudden appearance here was a declaration and a warning for me. That no matter what Zayne did, this time, he wouldn’t be able to dodge.

With a deadly glare, Zayne stared at Trisha, making sure that the latter would feel his wrath deep into her soul.

‘Just so you wait, Trisha Henverton! I’ll make you feel more hell than what I gave you last time once I fix this mess!’

Zayne was about to speak and retaliate with words, but before he could do that, a commotion happened outside the warehouse.

The sound of sirens blared through the open space, and within seconds, tons of high-ranking military

“Mess?” Rebecca asked, raising an eyebrow. “What are you talking about?”“Oh, you didn’t know?” Trisha looked at Rebecca, her eyes squinting. “Oliver and Zayne have a personal grudge against each other.”She added, “I don’t know what could be the reason, but I feel like my intuition is right. And seeing this, Oliver won’t let him do his retaliation again.”Rebecca‘s eyes widened upon hearing that revelation from Trisha. She didn’t have any idea that this fight was more than just merely saving someone.‘Wait… could this be because of Seraphine?’ Rebecca thought, especially now that she only knew recently how valuable her identity was to Oliver. ‘It could be possible. But why am I in the picture?”“But you do know that Zayne likes you, right?” Trisha asked, yet her tone was almost like a statement. However, when Rebecca’s brows furrowed in shock, Trisha gave her a look in disbelief.“This is crazy. You also didn’t know that?” Trisha asked, her eyes widening. “Almost everyone likes you in

“One enemy down! I’m taking over!” Ray shouted as he ran toward the side, holding his gun as he pointed it at the other enemies. “Damn, someone almost killed me! Samuel, are you there?”“I’m here on the other side,” Samuel answered calmly yet in a low tone, switching his weapon from a gun to a knife. He used it to silently kill the enemies and infiltrate the base without anyone noticing him.“I’m inside the base,” Samuel informed them, his eyes alert as he looked at the other enemies on the ground floor, oblivious of his presence. “Ray, inform me if you’re in position. I’ll start shooting once everyone’s ready.”“Alright,” Ray affirmed. “Just give me a little

A few hours later, when Legion V, except Oliver, got tired of playing video games, Samuel, and James went to their homes.Rebecca was also going to do the same thing. She needed to go back to the town as her presence was needed in Umbrella Bank.“It was nice to see you again, Sera, Oliver…” said Rebecca with a smile. “Take care, both of you, okay?”Seraphine returned Rebecca’s smile. “You too. Don’t work too hard.”Rebecca chuckled. “No promises.” She glanced at Oliver. “Try not to get into much trouble.”“No promises,” Oliver answered with a smirk, imitating Rebecca’s statement earlier.Rebecca rolled her eyes but let out a chuckle afterward. She went to the car, and Ray opened the passenger seat’s door.“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure to bring her home safe and sound,” Ray assured them as he did a playful salute. “You have my word—no scratches, no trouble, and definitely no detours… unless she insists,” he added to say, his tone teasing, as he playfully glanced at Rebecca.Without a w

Oliver already knew what Seraphine was going to say. But hearing that confirmation made his eyes widen. The shock and sadness became evident in his eyes, his gaze fixated on Anastasia.“Our daughter…” Oliver muttered, taking slow steps toward the child. He held Anastasia’s hands, and it felt like his heart was split into two upon seeing how many injection marks she had.“How old is she?” he asked, his tone low. “Looks like she’s five or six…”“She’s five,” Seraphine confirmed, her hands playing with her fingers, and her gaze fixated on the floor. “I… gave birth to her while you were away.”With his brows furrowed, Oliver’s mind went back to their situation six years ago.He had been working like a madman at that time, given that Charlie requested him to do tons of missions in exchange for his retirement. That was Oliver’s plan all along—to retire from his work and live a peaceful life with Seraphine and their future family. But the last mission with Zerenette ruined everything.“If yo

“Once the government knew that I was resorting to asking someone for money, we would be kicked out of the capital,” Seraphine said, her tone low. She added, “I can’t afford that. Although this hospital was more shabby than the others, it was still superior to the hospitals in town.”Oliver nodded in agreement. If it were him, he would also do the same thing.“I understand,” Oliver said, his tone low as he looked Seraphine in the eye. “Thank you for being strong, Sera. Not only for our daughter but for yourself as well.”Taking a card from his pocket, Oliver gave it to Seraphine.“A red card?” Seraphine spoke, taking the card from Oliver’s hand. “This is… the highest card in every bank.”“It is,” Oliver confirmed. “Use that money to transfer Anastasia to the most expensive hospital here in the Capital. She won’t heal in this place.”Oliver scanned the room, and although it was already fine, he still wanted the best for their daughter. This is the only way he could give back to her, es

‘If they won’t recognize this card, then what will I do now?’ Seraphine added to ask herself, the worry starting to consume her.“Apologies, ma’am, but we can’t accept an unknown card,” the first guard said, handing the card back. “This hospital is strictly for high-profile patients.”The second guard nodded, agreeing with the statement. “Do you have a registered membership or a direct referral from the hospital’s board?”“N-No…” Seraphine answered, and it felt like there was a lump in her throat upon saying those words. “All I have is this card, thinking this should be enough.”She added, “According to the bank, it holds the highest privilege.”Seraphine just repeated the statement Oliver told her earlier. The tone of her voice was lower now as her confidence was gradually shattering.“I’m sorry, but without verification, we can’t allow entry,” the guard answered, his expression remaining neutral.Hearing those words, Seraphine felt her chest tighten. For a moment, she hoped to admit

“Don’t let that woman fool you!” Inna shouted to the receptionist, the anger evident on her face. “So what if her daughter had surgery at Celestial Medical Center before? Does it mean the money came from her, huh?”“The money came from all of my assets,” Seraphine answered, looking Inna in the eye. “If you want proof, then you can ask the government for my record. I’ll also give you my bank statement as well.”Seraphine was prolonging her patience for a while now, but Inna’s complaints were making it hard for her to do it.“Hah… This cunning bitch,” muttered Inna in annoyance, but enough for Seraphine and the receptionist to hear. “This is why I hate beggars, especially like you who don't know where to stand.”Hearing those words, Seraphine clenched her fists, her anger already readying to snap at any time.Fortunately, the receptionist, who doesn’t care about Inna's presence at this point, talked to Seraphine.“You should fill this document, Ma’am. This is for the admission,” the rec

Seraphine suddenly felt nervous upon seeing the kind of gaze Cedric was giving to her and the red card she was holding.‘Is he also thinking the same way as the manager?’ Seraphine thought, her brows furrowing. ‘What if this really isn’t authentic? Did Oliver get tricked?’“Give me the medical documents,” Cedric said, showing his palm to the receptionist. “I want to see the records.”“Yes, Director.”As soon as the receptionist gave the medical file to Cedric, the latter quickly scanned it, flipping through the pages.“Anastasia Hunt…” Cedric muttered, his eyes darkening. “Although she received surgery three years ago, her condition is severe. Why wasn’t she transferred here sooner?”His gaze moved to Seraphine.Seraphine, on the other hand, looked away. She didn’t know how to answer that question.Or maybe she did. Seraphine just couldn’t know how to say that decision was because of financial restraints.“Director, according to that record, Anastasia Hunt received surgery at Celest

Don’t speak,” Oliver commanded as he leaned in, his voice low. “If you value your life, you’ll stay low.”Nodding frantically, the guard looked at Oliver, with his eyes widening. At first, Oliver hesitated to hurt the guard. After all, these two were ordinary guards patrolling the exit. However, a few seconds later, he knocked the guard out. They didn’t have time for risks.“Damn. I thought you’d let him be,” Ray teased, shaking his head.Oliver smirked. “Not a chance.”With the guards down, they both moved to the loading dock door.“We’re already outside, waiting for you two,” Samuel’s voice came t

His gaze moved between the three doors and even on the pathway that would bring them back to the abandoned storage room.‘All of them had different risks, and the second door could be detrimental to our health as we’re unsure about the chemicals in the air,’ Oliver thought, frowning. He pondered for a few seconds. After that, he pushed the door open, revealing another narrow path—almost identical to the path they had walked onto earlier. The only difference is that this other path has yellow

“Got it. I already have a location where you are,” James told them after a few seconds. With his brows furrowing, Ray asked, “You mean, this secret passageway?”“Yeah.” James nodded although no one could see him. “That place isn’t in the main schematics, but I found a record of it in the archives.”He added, “If the record I can see here is this accurate, then there should be three doors in front of you.”Oliver and Ray looked at their front and realized that James was right. In front of them were three metal security doors with combination locks.“There is,” Oliver said, frowning in confusion. “This could… Is there more danger to it than fighting with the enemies outside?”“To be honest, I don’t know,” James admitted as he did his best to search for more information about the secret passageway.“There could only be two reasons,” Samuel said, preparing to leave. “Either that place was their old escape route…”“...Or they’re still using it for whatever reason, and that’s why they didn’

As soon as they entered the secret door, the enemies swarmed inside the room. But before they could find Oliver and Ray, the wall closed again. The silence filled the entire room for a while as no one spoke. They were only listening to the voices behind the wall, wondering whether those people also knew about the secret room.“All clear,” they heard a young man speak in the storage room. “There is no sign of anyone entering here, Sir.”“Alright,” another man answered—the one that was addressed as ‘sir.’ “Let’s get out of here. They might be hiding in other rooms.”“Yes, Sir.”Both of them heard footsteps running outside the storage room, and a few seconds later, it was gone. That’s the only time Ray could breathe properly. If those people knew about the secret door and his hunch was wrong, then it could be the end of them.“It was so dark in here,” Ray muttered, his gaze fixated in front. “Not even a single light could penetrate the area.”There was no window or other area aside from

“Alright,” Oliver answered, looking from left to right, quickly adjusting their vision to the dark. This was part of their training back in the Legion, and lucky for them, the people catching over them were just ordinary guards; they had no skills like Legion V.Because if it is, things might just get more complicated for them. There could be a bloody fight inside Argus Industries. However, since their only goal is to take information about Dominic Hawthorne and Argus Industries, Oliver and Ray do their best to avoid combat.“It’s clear,” Ray muttered as he reached the intersection first, halting just long enough to check both directions. “Let’s go!”Both of them sprinted down the corridor, yet their footsteps were silent against the carpeted floor.“Turn right,” said James on the other line, with his aggressive typing on the keyboard heard in the background. “At the end of the hall, you’ll see a maintenance stairwell.”“Is that exit safe?” Ray asked, his breathing ragged.“To be hone

There are five of them in total. “Who would volunteer?”“We’ll go,” Oliver said, raising his hand alongside Ray. “We’ll do the job quickly so all of us can go home without any problems.”“Alright.” she nodded, her expression stern. “Do your job properly. I’ll receive a message if you don’t.”Oliver and Ray nodded in unison.Little did the maintenance leader know, the message she received came from James, and not from an official employee of Argus Industries.“You may go,” she said,

Oliver nodded, his mind already working through emergencies. “That’s why we stick to the plan,” he said, placing the tablet on the table. “No unnecessary risks.”Ray raised an eyebrow. “You sure about that? Every mission we’ve done together doesn’t exactly follow the plan.”Oliver chuckled, running a hand through his hair. “Let’s try to keep that from happening this time.”James cleared his throat. “Although I handle the CCTV loop and delete any footage of you as you move, I won’t be able to help you with the extra layer of security at Dominic’s office.”“Extra layer of security?” Ray asked, his brows furrowing.“Yeah.” James nodded. “A secondary system that isn’t connected to the main network.”Samuel’s eyes narrowed, looking James in the eye. “Which means?”James took the tablet from the table, tapping one side of the blueprint. “Which means that someone should physically disable it from inside the security room.”The silence filled their conversation for a moment. Then, Oliver’s

Samuel added, “Technically, all those high-quality drugs surrendered to the government were taken by Zayne.”“And Zayne gives it to the Argus Industries,” Oliver said, letting out a laugh, realizing how the Legion was used against something evil. The silence filled the room for a moment, then after a few seconds, James spoke.“We might need another way in because hacking isn’t an option for now,” James said, looking at the monitor. “I can’t even look at the Legion’s files. It will make us more suspicious of Charlie.”Oliver ran a hand through his hair, his mind already working through possibilities. James was right—hacking wasn’t an option.
