The lobby was mostly empty except for a nurse seated at the front desk and a security guard sipping from a thermos in the corner.

Both of them sat on one of the padded benches near the wide windows, which overlooked the hospital courtyard.

Outside, the city lights twinkled faintly, and the occasional sound of traffic hummed in the background.

“I thought you were going home,” Seraphine muttered, breaking the silence in between.

“Are you planning to wait for Anastasia to wake up?”

“No. I’ll let her rest for the meantime,” Oliver answered and looked Seraphine in the eye.

“You’re the reason why I’m not going home yet, Sera.”

Seraphine blinked in surprise. “Me?”

“Yeah.” Oliver nodded.

“I want to be with you, enjoy the silence with you. Like what we always do every time I go home.”

Suddenly, both of their minds returned to the times they were together.

And they were sitting with others during the silence made them feel they were back in time.

It wasn’t awkward—just quiet, and full of the

Oliver looked a bit rough around the edges. He was wearing a tank top soaked with sweat, his sunburned skin and solid muscles on display.Over his shoulders, he balanced two heavy crates filled with fish, easily over 300 pounds between them. Yet, he moved with an effortless stride.Out of nowhere, a rock flew through the air, landing right by his foot and causing him to pause. It had to be those lazy coworkers of his, who always dumped the hardest jobs on him. Before he could spot the culprit, the market boss, Anthony, roared out from across the way.“Oliver! You think I pay you to slack off during work hours?”Yep, Oliver couldn’t even deserver a minute to catch his breath. To Anthony, he was no more than a workhorse. And it wasn’t just Anthony—everyone in town saw him the same way.For two reasons: First, he was an outsider.Second, the real kicker, he’d married the town’s richest beauty, Trisha Henverton. She wasn’t from some grand family, but around here, she was still a step above

The woman’s voice was polite but firm.Beneath it all, there was an undeniable excitement.Clearly, she was very, very happy to see Oliver. But Oliver wasn’t paying her much attention. He thought she must be joking.“Sorry, I don’t have time for games.”All he could think about was Teresa and Anthony’s bitter words from earlier. He didn’t want to doubt his wife, but her behavior had been strange lately. Anthony’s taunt had only scratched at a truth he’d been afraid to confront. Before Oliver could walk away, the woman called him from the back.“Please, come back, Commander! You’re destined to lead an empire, not live like this!”At the word “Commander,” Oliver hesitated. There was something familiar about it, something that tugged at a distant memory. But he shook it off."I'm leaving if you're not here looking for my trouble. Don't follow me." Oliver said. His demand sounded unfamiliarly firm. And weirdly, the woman listened to his order, stopped behind him.He headed straight to th

“Oh my God! Denver!” Trisha gasped, dropping to her knees to check on him. “You bastard! What did you just do?”“You should be thankful that’s all I did. I could have done worse,” Oliver replied coldly. His face showed pain, but he held it in.“How could you lie to me for so long, Trisha? After everything I did for you…”“Oh, spare me. I gave you the chance to be my husband.” Trisha sneered.“Do you even realize what kind of life I could have had if I hadn’t been tied to you?”Each word was like a slap across Oliver’s face.“I could have lived a life of luxury. But what did I get? A worthless husband who couldn’t even find a decent job,” she added, her voice dripping with scorn.“I deserve someone like Denver, someone who can give me the life I should have had.”As she spat out these words, Oliver tightened his hands, struggling to keep his composure."I gave you everything I had...“No matter what luxury you wanted, I worked extra shifts just to buy it for you.“You wanted more spendi

“The God of Mercenaries? What kind of title was that?” Oliver asked, stifling a laugh.“You’re the best of Legion. Hence the title of a God was given to you,”Melissa explained, her tone polite yet respectful.Oliver shook his head.“I know how to fight, but I’m not the man you are looking for.”“I’ve been living in this quiet town for years. The person you described sound way too powerful to be hiding out in a place like this. “It couldn’t possibly be me.”Even as he denied it, doubt crept into Oliver’s heart.Who was he?“That’s why I said you’re not meant for this life,” Melissa responded. “But here, I have something for you.”Melissa pulled something in her pocket. But it wasn’t just any card. This one was red.“This is your card,” Melissa said.“If you take this to Khan, the blacksmith in the Capital, he’ll confirm your true identity.”Oliver took the card, frowning as he examined it.“People with black cards are usually VIPs at banks... but a red one? That’s... interesting,” he

“You stink asshole! We’re done! Don’t make me call the cops!”Trisha screamed, and Oliver just sighed. “Not everything is about you, Trisha. I'm here for the business.”Trisha eyed him from head to toe, her expression full of disdain.“Business? You?” She laughed, shaking her head. “Please! You can’t even afford to walk through those doors. Aren’t you embarrassed?”“Why would I be?”“Because this is a private bank that only serves real VIPs,”The guard standing nearby chimed in, rolling his eyes.Oliver glanced at the guard, unfazed.“Okay, and what if I am one of your top clients?” he asked. The guard raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed.“If you’re a top client, then I’m the President.”“Like a stray dog pretending to be a lion,” Trisha added, smirking. “Stay out here and watch me go inside, loser.”She gave him one last smug look before strutting through the doors and into the bank.Oliver let out a quiet chuckle, then turned to the guard, his voice calm but firm.“Here’s my car

“Yes, ma’am,” the staff member nodded,“That card’s extremely rare—no more than 50 exist worldwide. So, the holder is treated as a VVIP at any bank they visit.”Trisha’s eyes widened in shock. She bit her lip, feeling her heartbeat quicken. She had spent years chasing wealth, hopping from one rich man to the next, trying to keep her lavish lifestyle. The inheritance she withdrew every month from her father’s account, was barely enough to keep her lavish lifestyle.‘I’ve only heard about the red card from my father, but I never thought I’d see someone with one…’ Trisha thought, frowning as she processed the revelation.‘But Oliver? Impossible!’Next second, Trisha marched over to Rebecca."Don’t trust this man, Miss. Rebecca! He’s a fraud, trying to scam you!"Rebecca raised an eyebrow, her voice calm but sharp."A fraud? That’s a serious accusation, Miss Trisha.""I’m not accusing him; I’m telling you the truth!" Trisha’s tone grew louder, "He probably found the card on the street, or

A billion dollars! What kind of life did I have before I lost my memory?Oliver wondered, staring at the number in disbelief. The wealth alone stunned him, but the password he’d just used intrigued him even more.“It was a birthdate... but whose?” Oliver frowned.Just then, Rebecca broke the silence.“Sir, with a red card, you don’t need to mind your balance, It is practically unlimited. You have full access to funds from any bank,” she explained.Oliver nodded slowly, trying to wrap his head around it.“So, with a balance like this, does that mean I can withdraw money from anywhere?”Rebecca smiled. “Yes, sir. Withdrawals can be made from anywhere in the world.”He frowned, remembering his earlier attempt.“Then why couldn’t I get any cash from the ATM earlier?”Rebecca tapped on her tablet. Her eyes lit up as she found the answer.“The card had been inactive for 3 years, so it was frozen.”Oliver leaned back in his chair. His mind racing. This card is real. That woman wasn’t lying t

Anthony sneered as Oliver put his phone away. “Was that a fake call? Trying to scare me? Really funny.”Oliver remained calm. “You’ll see soon enough. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”Anthony laughed, patting Oliver’s shoulder mockingly. “Cute. Maybe next time, call my mom like a five-year-old.”He walked off, leaving the wreckage behind. Once Anthony was out of sight, Oliver hurried to Nate, who was slumped against a bench. “You okay?”Nate winced, holding his side. “I’ll live. But I’m more worried about losing this job. If I can’t work, I won’t be able to pay for my son’s cancer treatments.”Oliver’s jaw clenched. “Don’t worry. Anthony will pay for this.”Nate shook his head, forcing a weak smile. “You’re a good friend, but Anthony’s too powerful. Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”Oliver sighed. Even if I told Nate who I really am, he wouldn’t believe me.Nate forced a weak smile.“Don't worry about me. I’ll figure something out. But what about you? Your wife will be upset if you

For hours, Oliver, Seraphine, and Anastasia had a good time bonding as a familyBut mostly, it was Oliver and Seraphine talking as they spent more time getting to know each other, especially about Seraphine’s hobbies and wants.“I love watching superheroes like Sky Man, daddy,” Anastasia mumbled, giggling joyfully. “Mommy said that you’re a superhero, saving everyone’s lives while you’re away.”Oliver looked at Seraphine, his smile widening. “You said that to her?”“She asked me what your job is like,” Seraphine answered, looking away, scratching her nape. “That’s the closest description I could say.”“Well, you’re right.” Oliver nodded. Then, he leaned toward Seraphine, muttering into her ear, “But at the same time, you were wrong.”Hearing those words, Seraphine looked Oliver in the eye, her eyes narrowing.Oliver didn’t explain his sentence, she knew what he wanted to say.His work wasn’t exactly like a superhero. He’s a mercenary—Someone assigned to save or kill. Or both.Althoug

“Oliver,” Seraphine called, her brows furrowing.Hearing her mention his name made Oliver’s heart skip a bit.But then, he turned in her direction and smiled. “Why, Sera?”“Are you hiding something from me again?”That question caused Oliver’s smile to fade.‘I knew it. Seraphine had a good perception, or maybe it’s because we’ve been together for a long time,’ he thought.Oliver added, ‘It’s really hard to hide some things from her.’So, he decided to be honest with her about it.While walking toward the hallways, Oliver explained.“To be honest, I don’t know how I can explain it, or whether you’ll believe me or not,” he said in a low tone.“But the necklace I always have with me suddenly had a light on its pendant. And… poof. The light exploded.”He created a sound effect of an explosion, and his hands also re-enacted the same thing.“It didn’t hurt, but at the same time, I felt like something had changed within me,” he added. “I feel lighter and stronger in a way I can’t explain.”

That was close.”“Run through the entire computer and double-check whether that bastard managed to get on the security,” Oliver commanded. Then, he looked at Nick. “Help him double-check everything.”“Yes, Commander,” Nick affirmed. The silence filled their conversation as no one spoke afterward. But they could feel the tension arising in the air, especially with Oliver’s sudden shift in his expression.Sitting on the chair next to James, both of them started to check whether they had been compromised or if the enemy had managed to get through their computer or not.A few minutes later, Nick spoke, “There’s nothing. Our line is clean.”James sighed, leaning his back on the chair.“I don’t think their g

  • Chapter 176: Light Explosion

Nick stood up and entered Oliver’s room, whose door was slightly open.Knocking thrice on the door, he called, “Commander?”The silence followed as Oliver didn’t answer. It caused Nick to push the door open, his movements rushed. He saw Oliver standing in the middle of the room, unmoving. His hand was clenched around the necklace, his eyes wide, but his breathing steady.Too steady. The kind of calm that came after a rush of something overwhelming.“What was that light just now?” Nick asked, his tone half-joking but laced with genuine concern. “Was that magic or something?”Oliver didn’t reply. His gaze moved from the necklace toward Nick, staring at him for a moment. As soon as they locked eyes, Nick felt something different on his body.‘I knew that Oliver’s presence was overwhelming from the start, and it was different from us,’ Nick thought. ‘But what’s with him today?’Involuntarily, the chills sent down his spine.“I’m just joking,” Nick added, forcing a laugh. But it sounded to

“If that happens, we don’t need to infiltrate Argus Industries again as they would have higher security starting today,” Oliver added.Nodding, Samuel muttered, “As they move the files, that would be our greatest opportunity to attack.”“Exactly.” Oliver clicked his tongue.Nick, on the other hand, had his eyes narrowed at what he heard.“I thought we got all the information,” said Nick. “You saw the research and development facility, the illegal drug transactions, and even the partnership—”"That's the thing I have the most bad feeling with," Oliver spoke before Nick could finish his sentence.Oliver knew Charlie more than the rest of the Legion V members.‘Charlie doesn’t make decisions that he doesn’t think through carefully,’ he thought. ‘So, there must be a reason for his consideration.’“Uhm… Why don’t I ask Charlie instead?” suggested James as if it were that easy to do. “You know, I’m not banned like Legion V.”Hearing those words, Ray’s lips curved into a smirk.“Man, don’t

“Enough.” Oliver leaned against the doorway, arms crossed.A slight smirk tugged at his lips.“You can argue about coffee and liver damage later. Right now, we need to go over what we pulled from Argus Industries.”Oliver tried to make his voice calm and teasing, making sure he won’t completely ruin the vibe. However, Samuel, who was the most observant in their group, noticed the expression Oliver was trying to conceal.Fear. Worry. Anger.‘But not toward Legion V,’ Samuel thought, and he was certain about it. ‘Maybe it was because of what they found in the office.’“Ugh,” Nick groaned, dramatically flopping onto the couch. He added, “Commander, do we have to do work stuff already as soon as we reach the hideout? Can’t we pretend to be normal for like… five minutes?”Oliver raised an eyebrow.“You want normal? Then join a book club,” he answered as he also sat on the couch. “Now sit up.”Ray chuckled into his cup while Samuel, whose thoughts about Oliver faded, tried not to laugh.Eve

A few hours later, the Legion V arrived at Nick’s house, which they still use as their hideout.“We’re here,” Samuel stated, clicking a button on the van.In an instant, the van’s color immediately changed from black to white, the same as the plate number on the back.It was one of Samuel’s inventions; this was the first time he used it on a mission.“Damn, that was so incredible!” Nick exclaimed in amusement, his eyes widening as he looked at the car’s interior.Just like the car’s exterior, its interior also changed.Nick added, “If someone sees this, no one would think this is the same van… Or is it?”“It is,” James answered, clicking his tongue as he held onto his phone, playing games. “The car really hasn't changed. It was only an illusion. But if you look closely…”James’ face leaned toward the window, his eyes narrowing.“It was still the same car. The exterior and interior, everything.”Upon hearing those words, Samuel smirked.“You really have a keen eye just like your broth

He could have just taken it instead of only creating a copy of it.Which means there could be a reason.‘He wanted me to be worried and wonder how much he knew,’ Dominic thought, clenching his fists. And damn, that was so effective. At that moment, there is only one question going through Dominic’s mind, and that is where he should transfer the files so no one else could find it again.***Meanwhile, at the Legion’s headquarters, Charlie was sitting on the chair with both his feet resting on the table.Tons of files were in front of him—something he needed to review as the CEO before the company makes a move on it.And the current file in his hand… was all about what Dominic had given to him a few days before.[Partnership B
