3 – Tough Day

The following day, Cody commanded two zombies to enter the room where he and Gwen hid. He had also collected several wooden planks, frying pans, helmets, and so on.

Gwen grimaced when Cody tied these objects to the zombies’ bodies, making them look like they were wearing armor. “You can really control them?”

“Yeah, right now I can only control two, though. I got this mysterious power yesterday.” The young man tied a thick book to the shin of one zombie.

Unsure of the ‘armor’s’ effectiveness, he still believed it was better to equip the undead rather than not equipping them at all.

Sighing, Gwen continued her work connecting various types of fabric into long ropes. It comprised the clothes they found in the room, as well as sheets and curtains.

“Are you sure you are doing this?” Gwen hissed.

“No.” Cody stood looking at the makeshift armor attached to those creatures. “But this is all I can think of.”

When he looked at her, Cody discovered she had completed the rope.

“No need to wait for me. If there are no zombies left in front, run away immediately.” The young man then tied one end of the makeshift rope to the leg of the bed. Nothing else is sturdier. He just hoped it was strong enough to hold them.

“No.” Gwen sighed. “Maybe I’ll go down first, but I’ll still wait for you. I don’t want to travel alone anymore.”

After tying the rope, Cody walked out of the room, zombies in front. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

The living dead wield an ax and a baseball bat, as if they prepare to protect Cody. Even though their minds won’t think about it.

The young man’s heartbeat increased along with his steps. He hit his left chest as he descended the stairs, as if that would suppress his feeling.

But no human being could calm down doing something as crazy as this.

Cody and his two zombies continued walking until they arrived near the front door. The young man could see so many undead.

As Cody took a deep breath, some of them looked at him.

“Get over here, you rotten corpses!!!” He shouted, and that triggered the zombies to walk towards him.

They couldn’t run like the previous zombies. This could be an advantage.

But their numbers worried Cody.

Cody controlled his two zombies to hold back the terrible beings while he walked backwards.

No, the two zombies weren’t fighting them to the end. Cody’s stamina will run out if he controls his zombies to do that. Their enemies are too many.

Instead, Cody uses them to buy time.

Cody continued to walk backwards and made his zombies continue to hold off those enemies. As time goes on, more and more walking corpses enter the house,

Cody’s heart felt like it was going to explode from beating so hard, cold sweat had soaked his entire body, and the intense shaking in his legs made him struggle to stay standing.

But he has to do this to stay alive.

More and more undead entered the house. They continue to growl and try to reach Cody.

Cody’s zombies are getting overwhelmed. They kept hitting and slashing their enemies, but it wasn’t enough. In the end, they fell.

Despite that, Cody still lures those creatures into the house. Her eyes focused on their rotten faces.

Not yet. He had to make sure that all the zombies had entered the house.

When he finally reached the stairs, he turned around and ran away.

Just then, several louder growls appeared. Cody looked back, only to find several zombies running among the others.

This was not the time to think about why some of them suddenly became like that.

“F*ck!” Cody sped up his run to the second floor and entered the room. Not having time to close the door, he dashed to the window.

“Hurry up, Cody!” Gwen was already waving from below. “It’s clear!”

Cody uses the makeshift rope to climb down. And that’s when he realized the growls were so close.

Some zombies that were chasing Cody fall out of the window. They don’t know the concept of descending on a rope.

Gwen screamed as the zombies fell near her with terrible cracking sounds.

“Just run, Gwen!” Cody tried to get down as fast as possible. “Just leave me… Ugh!”

One of the fallen zombies hit Cody’s body, making his grip loose. He fell to the ground. Even though it wasn’t very high, he could feel a heavy impact on his shoulder.

A stinging pain shot through that part of Cody’s body, but he couldn’t rest. The zombies that had fallen were already crawling towards him.

He kicked one of their heads, then forced his legs to stand up. He found Gwen swinging her bag to ward off the zombies that were crawling towards her.

“I told you, just leave me!” Cody ran to that woman while grimacing in pain.

“I don’t want to!” Gwen tried to let go one zombie that was grabbing her leg.

Using his control system, Cody made the zombie release its grip from the blonde girl’s leg. They both then ran as hard as they could.

More and more zombies fell from the windows. Some of it landed on the bodies of other zombies, so that their bodies were less damaged.

So they can keep running.

“I didn’t know they could run!” Gwen widened her eyes when she saw zombies that dashed a few meters behind.

“I also only found out about this yesterday.” Cody continued to hold his left shoulder.

“We have to treat you immediately.” Gwen grimaced at Cody. “I hope you don’t break any bones.”

“Just think about that later. We’d better focus on running away from them.”

They keep running, while more and more zombies chase them.

This time, it wasn’t fear that filled Cody’s heart. His anger overflowed because of his helplessness.

He had no enough power to fight them.
