5 – Bad Guys

The zombie bit the first man’s neck and making him fall to the ground while screaming.

Instead of helping, the second man froze at that horror. His submission hold on Cody’s neck also loosened.

Cody didn’t pass up the opportunity. He elbowed that man in the stomach and broke free. Then Cody slammed that man’s head into the hood of a nearby car.

The second man’s head bled as he writhed in pain on the floor. Cody grabs the crowbar near the first man’s corpse while his zombie creeps to the second man.

“No, don’t come to me!!!” The second man shifted on the floor until his back was against a car.

“You look though, but you’re not, big guy?” Cody approached that man, who had a bald head and a thick beard.

He trembled when the zombie was so close to him. “Help me! Keep me away from this monster! I’m actually weak and timid! I joined them just to survive!”

Cody saw Gwen outside the car, glaring at the bald man.

“He took part in my friends’ slaughter.” She hissed. Her tone was so cold.

Hearing that, the bald man cried. “I apologize…. I made a mistake…”

“I have a question for you.” Cody put the crowbar on his shoulder. “Where is your base?”

“It’s in the north! Raymond Street has a road with a black flag and a red skull! There’s a house at the end of that road!” The bald man’s cries grew louder as the zombie got closer to his neck. “Please, help me!!!”

“How many people are there? Apart from you and this friend of yours.” Cody resumed.

“Seven! There are seven people over there!” The bald man closed his eyes. “Keep this zombie away from me!!!”

Cody sighed. “You’re over two meters tall and have a huge body. You’re perfect as my minion.”

“Huh?” The bald man had just said that, and the zombie bit his neck. He struggled in pain, but Cody didn’t let him go.

Meanwhile, Gwen looked at that with tense facial muscles.

When the bald man stopped moving, Cody closed his eyes and exhaled. He felt that satisfaction again, even though he didn’t kill any zombies.

In that lawless world, that was his only option. Letting them alive puts not only him and Gwen at risk but also others passing through the area.

[Level up]

And it turns out, Cody can get experience points from killing humans, not just zombies.

“Cody...” Gwen looked away from the bald man’s corpse. “You heard them talking about a woman they kidnapped, right?”

“Yeah, I heard that. What’s wrong?”

The blonde-haired girl gulped. “Maybe it’s my sister…. She sacrificed herself so I could escape from them. I thought she died.…”

She couldn’t continue her words and sobbed.

“From their conversation earlier, I guessed it’s possible that your sister is still alive.” Cody did another scan, and the images of the bad guys appeared, even though they hadn’t become zombies yet. “We have to hurry.”

“I don’t have any ability to fight them...” Gwen tried to hold back her tears. “So, I asked you for help... Sorry.”

“It’s alright. I also can’t let them do as they please.” Cody chose the bald man’s image, making him a living dead. Then, he chose a new skill for advancing to level 4.

[Runner: The Zombies you control can run]

After taking their things, Cody and Gwen went to the bad guys’ car. Meanwhile, the zombies controlled by Cody were curled up on the vehicle’s back hood.

Of course, there won’t be enough space for them, and the hood won’t close. But Cody wasn’t giving them comfort.

What matters was these zombies could come out fast to attack those bad guys.

“I’ll drive. Your shoulder still hurts, right?” Gwen volunteered.

“No need.” Cody entered the car and started it. “This is nothing.”

It was a lie. The agony in Cody’s shoulder was still unbearable, but he had to remain focus on his mission. Those bad guys need to learn a lesson.

Cody drove the car at high speed in silence, and Gwen only glanced at him a few times.

After a few minutes of driving, Cody stopped the car near a large black flag with a red skull drawn on it with spray paint.

He gazed at that thing with complete disgust. “Are you ready, Gwen?”

He wanted Gwen to just hide somewhere, but he didn’t know this area. There could be danger lurking, be it zombies or humans.

Swallowing hard, Gwen nodded. “I am ready.”

Cody turned the car onto a narrower road. The rough contours multiplied the vibrations he and Gwen experienced many times over.

Apart from the road, they only saw trees on the right and left.

They didn’t have to wait long until they saw a house with wooden walls. A person stood guard in front of the building, armed with a rifle. He didn’t aim at the car or do anything. He probably assumed his friends were still driving the car.

Instead of slowing down, Cody increased the speed of the car. The guard gasped and couldn’t do anything when Cody hit him and sent him flying.

The young man then executed a turning maneuver, causing the car’s back to face the house.

He controlled the two zombies in the back trunk to get out. The one with a small posture held a crowbar, while the big one only used its bare hands.

“What happened?”

“I heard a crash!”

“Let’s take a look!”

The people in the house came out and Cody’s zombies dashed at them.
