Chapter 17: Please Trust Me.

Winston stopped soothing him, but Hubert, the big lad, couldn't stop crying. Winston couldn't understand why he felt indescribable patience, as though currents of electricity were creeping inside him, paralyzing his entire body.

Hubert continued to whimper like a child, thinking of Theodore and then of Jacob, each thought filling him with indescribable self-pity.

He saw the other party as a cultivation partner and knew well that Jacob's soft words carried no weight, but now he felt a loss as if he had lost a lover.
