"What? Family?"

Alberto's shout was so piercing that Hubert had to cover his ears. Certainly, he expected Alberto to be surprised, but this dramatic? "Yes, they are my family. This base was once under our jurisdiction." Hubert said without hesitation.

He didn't fear that Alberto would turn against him. After all, Jacob had instructed Alberto to bring him to meet others. Whether Alberto found out now or later was merely a matter of time. Alberto's mouth remained agape, his eyes widened as if he couldn't believe what he had just heard. He asked: "Aren't you afraid I'll report this to Domi?"

"He already knows." Hubert replied.

"So...I see..."

Alberto seemed to struggle to keep up with the unfolding revelations. He nodded cursorily and stopped pressing further. Even a cursory glance revealed some undisclosed vendetta between Hubert and Domi that Alberto was not privy to. Yet to be given this sort of access—to visit like family—indicated a relationship far from ordinary.

Jacob's eyes widened in disbelief, uncertain of what Hubert was alluding to. Though he had a vague inkling that Hubert might know something, the specifics eluded him. But before he could speak, he felt a searing pain wash over him, as if Domi were trying to seize control of his very being. Desperately, he activated his Superpower to resist, but alas, his energy was insufficient. Beads of sweat drenched him, signaling the near-complete takeover of his body by Domi. Then, abruptly, Hubert gripped Jacob's shoulder, channeling into him an overwhelming surge of energy. In moments, Domi was entirely subdued; his ominous presence no longer lurked within Jacob.Hubert chuckled at Jacob's astonished expression: "You seem surprised that I knew another entity existed within you. Moreover, that I could suppress him. More accurately, temporarily suppress. Domi won't be able to control you for a few days.""Hubert!"Jacob grasped Hubert's hand on his shoulder, but Hubert swiftly withdrew, leaving a

Hubert wasn't overly startled by this revelation. Given Jacob's rank, it would have been impossible, but even Domi hadn't reached level seven. The only logical inference was that implanting the Energy Stone was Domi's superpower. However, Jacob had mentioned that Domi aimed to resurrect someone. Why then would he need assistance when he himself possessed such capabilities? "Why doesn't he just resurrect the person himself? What's the point in aiding my ascension to level seven? Lancelot almost died, and yet he was saved."Rubbing his chin contemplatively, Hubert waited for Jacob's reply, which came promptly: "The person Domi seeks to revive is already dead—absolutely dead. It's called 'resurrection,' not 'saving a life.' The two situations are hardly comparable.""So that's how it is? The person is already dead." Hubert mused, nodding in comprehension. For some inexplicable reason, Domi's intent to save someone evoked a surge of emotion within him. The mere mention of that mysterious

Hubert hadn't anticipated such revelations. He had always assumed that he had a system granting him buffs, making his cultivation inherently stronger than that of others. But now it emerged that this gaming system was a highly sophisticated AI, capable of human interaction. It was but a guide, showing him the methodology of his cultivation. The more he heard, the less he dared believe. What exactly did Domi know? His knowledge seemed to surpass human comprehension altogether.Given all that Domi had done, Hubert could hazily deduce that he very likely hailed from the future, as Jacob suggested. Only thus could he know which Superhuman in the past had achieved Level 7, or which ones had the potential, and would therefore seek to expedite their advancement. Looking at it this way, Hubert became certain about the person Domi wished to resurrect. It seemed Domi was willing to forsake everything for that one individual, as though he had nothing left but that singular person."So, did you a

However, Jacob offered his own theory: "I think this place doesn't react to ordinary people without Superpowers. Our experience of free-floating might have been a test to gauge our abilities and rank. Once we landed, the force seemed to use our ranks to exert pressure. Since Winston has no rank, the pressure eventually dissipated.""Why do you sound so certain?""Because I've read about it."Jacob elaborated further: "I believe this space is a unique manifestation of Superpower generation. However, the one who created it might not have a sufficiently high rank, hence the chaotic disruption in the normal flow of time.""But if their rank isn't high, how could they even create a space like this?" Hubert instantly retorted, reasoning that even achieving a mere ten square meters of space required a rank three, and a rank four could only open up to twenty square meters. The space they were in had to be at least a hundred square meters, meaning the Superhuman responsible must have achieved

The more he reminisced, the more disheartened he felt. Hubert decided to banish thoughts of Jacob. The recent melancholy was only because someone he once had feelings for had unexpectedly embraced him, not because he still harbored those feelings. As for love, Hubert hadn't yet reached that point with Jacob. In this world, there was only one person for whom he wanted to live and die—Theodore, and Theodore alone.Theodore was the only one who transferred energy to him without concern for his own diminished Superpower or the difficulties in future cultivation. He was the only one who cherished Hubert with unvarnished sincerity, following him from the meteor center to the assembly area even when upset. He was the only one who disciplined Hubert strictly yet spoiled him limitlessly. He was the only one willing to self-destruct to prevent the apocalypse from growing stronger. If Hubert couldn't love such a person, he would truly be blind!"The atmosphere seems to be changing in an odd way.

Jacob replied with earnest eyes, genuinely perplexed: "I truly cannot fathom what thoughts whirl in Hubert's mind to make such a presumption. Domi never mentioned the asteroid's operation, nor did he utter a word about Theodore. From beginning to end, his sole focus was on you and on propelling you to the seventh level. Why would you suspect otherwise?"Hubert's voice took on an eerie cadence, his words imbued with a gravity that caused the room to still: "Because I used my Clairvoyance to see my elder brother, standing right before me.""What? Excuse me?" Jacob's voice raised in pitch, uncertainty evident in his tone: "Theodore stands before you now?"The weight of Hubert's revelation wasn't lost on Winston, who until now had chosen to remain a silent spectator. The shock in his voice was palpable: "Theodore is here?"Hubert, with a hint of mystery, posed a question: "Would you like to see for yourself?""But how?" Jacob's question echoed the skepticism and curiosity they all felt.W

But no answer greeted him. That familiar gaze seemed to drift further away each passing day. Hubert couldn't fathom what had befallen Raymond. Time and again, Raymond had protected him, expressed his feelings through actions. Yet, when Hubert reciprocated, why this awkward distance? At last, Hubert could no longer hold his silence:"You..."Before he could continue, the magma beneath the chasm began to boil fervently, the very space around them quaking violently. It seemed as if that very eye had been waiting for this moment to swiftly soar past Hubert and disappear into the abyss."Wait, please!"But no matter how Hubert called out, that energy-filled eye never returned. And he didn't have much time to ponder upon it, for outside, Jacob and Winston kept calling:"Hubert!""Hubert! Are you alright in there? Everything still okay?"He couldn't ignore them, so he quickly responded:"I'm fine."With that, Hubert swiftly made his way outside. Using his clairvoyance, he could tell the lava

Hubert's voice rose, his query dripping with incredulity. For a brief moment, Jacob found himself lost for words, caught in the realization of his stance. But as tensions grew, Winston stepped in, attempting to diffuse the situation:"What Jacob mentions isn't entirely unfounded. The young master Canis has, indeed, been unreasonably oppressive towards Lancelot. The form of this oppression being tied to their professional obligations. Lancelot, ever so impulsive by nature, has often retaliated. This only fuelled Canis' desire to report and penalize him further. While both hold equivalent military ranks, young master Canis’ achievements are undeniably superior, intensifying Lancelot's resentment. This cycle has persisted for years."The more Hubert heard, the harder he found it to believe that Canis could stoop so low. Yet, from what he had observed, the animosity between Canis and Lancelot was certainly not one-sided. Was Canis' conduct towards someone he held affection for not somewha

Now, with the absorption of the Energy Stone, no protective energy sphere enveloped the scene. Only a few protective mages were there to ensure the upgrade process remained uninterrupted. Everyone understood the dire consequences if the upgrade failed."What do you want?""Isn't it obvious? To abduct the subject and seize the Energy Stone. Right now, you've lost one Superhuman of level 6 quota mid, and your most potent Superhuman is mid-upgrade. How could you possibly fend us off now?""Toby, don't waste words on them. The longer we stall, the more likely Hubert will complete the absorption, leaving us at a disadvantage."Wayne urged, the wind-aspected Superhuman accompanying him was Toby, a man with pure offensive abilities. He had traversed time four times. The first was to the moment he claimed Hubert from the fragments of time. He tried being more conciliatory, gentler. But he couldn't change his controlling nature, and once again, Hubert slipped away. But one couldn't stay in a timeline more than thrice, so he chose the future where Hubert had traveled. Hubert had failed in his mission to save Raymond, deciding to leap 500 years ahead, and Domi followed suit. In this era, Raymond had lost his memory and Hubert was exploiting it for a happier existence. Unwilling to witness this, Domi returned to the present with a plan to make Hubert end Raymond himself, eliminating him entirely. But the truth unveiled itself in a tale of sorrow, proving his failure, and he had indeed lost Hubert. What's more, he'd forsaken his chance of survival - a misfortune that had not befallen him during his second traverse through time. Perhaps now, Hubert was utterly beyond his grasp; his past, his future, and even the present

  • Chapter 155: Next Time, Please Save Me (2)

The dark energy within Hubert surged powerfully, overwhelming those around him in no time. This force clearly embodied Raymond’s essence and grew alongside him. The zombie king's energy was not to be trifled with, so Superhumans below level 6 felt dizzy, nauseous, and experienced a pressure akin to diving deep underwater."It's... hard to breathe!""What monstrous energy is this?"They all knew Hubert was a Level 6 Superhuman, but to possess such overwhelming energy was exceedingly rare. Moreover, the kind of energy that could oppress them to the point of feeling as if their lungs were being torn apart could only be that of a zombie's. It was as if they couldn't believe their own thoughts, or more precisely, they were terrified. For a Superhuman to carry zombie energy without being assimilated or controlled was extremely peculiar. And Hubert was that very anomaly! The atmosphere seemed to have stagnated, suffocating not just the Superhumans but Hubert himself. That dark force seemed t

  • Chapter 154: Next Time, Please Save Me

"If we are to hunt Superhumans together, I must address you properly. Surely, I can't just call you 'this zombie' or 'that zombie,' can I?" But Raymond never responded. Never before had he felt so dismissed, so insulted. Yet, he persisted in his quest for Raymond's name. Until, irked by Clunky's persistence, Raymond finally said: "My surname is Raymond Joshua." "And your first name? Speak it!" "Annoying!" "What?" "I said, 'You're annoying.'" Though meant as a reprimand, Clunky responded: "I am nameless. But if you find me annoying, I shall name myself 'Clunky.' I will take your surname, and serve under you, the true zombie king. What say you?" ... Raymond never replied. Clunky initially thought Raymond would maintain that initial distance, but later, every time Raymond hunted, he would share with him any mutated Water Energy Stones he found. Clunky realized that zombies typically lacked emotional depth, yet as a high-level sentient zombie, his thoughts mirrored that of humans.

If reason failed, then perhaps the heart's tug might prevail. Since their encounter, Clunky had refrained from striking him, showcasing a surprising restraint. Coupled with the fact that Clunky had not lost his rationale, there was hope to sway him. Hubert implored,"Just pretend not to see us, allowing us passage to the asteroid's core. I'll do my utmost to prevent his self-destruction. You can assist with that, can't you?""Do you not comprehend the apocalypse that Raymond's existence might trigger?""I'm well aware." Hubert sighed: "but I wish to save both the world and him."Once more, Clunky lapsed into a contemplative silence. It was a long minute before he said: "Your recklessness astonishes me. Moreover, preventing his self-destruction might be inevitable. He can't explode if he loses his self-awareness. The event is imminent!"Rather than speculation, Clunky’s words felt like a forewarning. As if Raymond's loss of control was a foregone conclusion. Hubert queried,"Do you fat

  • Chapter 152: Desolate And Difficult

Now, had it not been for Canis with his luminous superpowers, there probably would've been no means of separating Raymond's energy. Cautiously extending his arm, he sensed a familiar energy, through which he could trace the very existence of Raymond. Even more astonishing, he felt as though he could pinpoint Raymond's exact location.Raymond wasn't at the meteorite's core, but he was undoubtedly making his way there. This revelation meant there was no need to waste time seeking him. The very thing demanding his attention now roiled and seethed right before his very eyes. The ominous black pool belonging to Clunky seemed on the verge of erupting, its turmoil growing by the second. Ever since Hubert had siphoned off Raymond's energy, Clunky's own energy began to oscillate wildly. This clearly indicated that he had detected the essence of the Zombie King lingering around.Confusion must have gripped Clunky, for Raymond's scent manifested in two distinct locations: where Raymond truly was

  • Chapter 151: Arrogance Often Leads To Defeat

If Clunky arrived a tad earlier, Phelan and Allan might have formed an alliance to restrain him, saving them much precious energy. Yet, if his arrival were any more belated, the ice barrier would have been wholly corroded by his sinister liquid. Hubert, gazing as the first shadow struck the ice barrier, realized that had he not been at Superhuman level 6 quota peak, that wall would have fallen long ago.Lost in contemplation, Hubert was startled by Stella’s sudden voice:"Hubert, have you forgotten about me? I am, after all, a pure Ice Superhuman.""And I am as well. Alone, your showy moves are more than enough."Lucia chimed in, her laughter tinged with a hint of mockery. Stella, with a hint of drama, channeled her Superpower, reinforcing Hubert's ice barrier. Almost as if dancing in tandem, Lucia followed suit. Thus, three magnificent ice walls, spanning over fifty meters, stood in unison, ensuring Clunky's water shadows could not break through. This feat could potentially buy them

Though he'd never directly clashed with him, Caradoc knew that Clunky was no pushover. His first encounter with the zombie was when Clunky was merely a level-5, losing a fight against Lancelot. But things had changed; the zombie had gained immense strength over the months, and even Caradoc, who had never fought him, felt a sense of dread.Hubert, too, ceased arguing at this moment. He walked closer to the black "river." stopping a mere five meters away. The heat emanating from it was palpable. Compared to Nathan's or Jacob's fire, Lancelot's was less hot, but it should not be underestimated. When he was merely at level 5, he could transform a high-ranking Superhuman into a mere skeleton in the blink of an eye. Now, the magnitude of his powers is beyond anyone's comprehension.Whoosh!Hubert unleashed a chunk of metal larger than a human head, hurling it into the heart of the river. The metallic mass immediately emitted a sound akin to boiling oil, followed by effervescent bubbles befo

He glanced at Winston, then back at the ringleader, and finally toward the heart of S city. He spoke deliberately:"Let's put today's matter aside for now. But don't assume that anyone who seeks to hunt the zombie king will be safe."Hubert withdrew his Superpower energy, his fists clenched as though prepared to decapitate anyone at a moment's notice. The ringleader, noticing Hubert's newfound composure, let out a sigh of relief, yet dared to probe further:"Why do you protect the zombie king? His existence threatens the lives of all humanity.""Indeed..."Hubert merely nodded in agreement, signaling his understanding that Raymond's existence was a peril to humankind. Yet, he voiced no further thoughts. More than anyone else, he understood the peril that Raymond's very being brought about, the specter of death that trailed behind him. But the very thought of witn
