CHAPTER THREE.

The moment Kiel stepped out of the Campbell mansion, he lowered himself on one of the road railing and buried his head in his palms. He was finding it hard to even understand what had happened.  He was away for six months and his wife gave birth? Did it mean she was pregnant before he left? But how come he didn’t know?

A lot was going on in his head as he sat outside the gates, he was not sure about what was going on in his life anymore.

If  anyone told him he was going to come home to such a thing, he would have just stayed back in turkey.

“Hey” a familiar voice filtered into his ear and he raised his head to see Andrew standing beside him and he had a mocking smirk on his face. He didn’t even look ashamed of what he had done, how Kiel wanted to whack him hard across the face.

“Why are you seated here like the loser that you are?” He asked, “you make yourself look so pathetic”

“Why?” This was the only thing Kiel could ask, maybe Andrew would give him a better explanation for why he did what he did, “you have thousands of women at your beck and call but you still chose my wife? Really?”

“Your wife?” Andrew scoffed before placing his hands into his pants pocket, “are you still calling Roselyn your wife even after she served you divorce papers?”

“And who are you to butt in our business?”

“Me?” Andrew laughed a little while adjusting his tie, “I needn’t introduce myself to you, Kiel Anderson and I suggest you sign those papers before I get back here in the evening”

After he was done, he turned on his heel and walked back to his car.

As Kiel watched him leave, a kind of anger enveloped him and he immediately stood up and entered the house again, he wanted his few to better explain everything to him. He was tired of all the games.

The moment he pushed the door open, he found her breastfeeding the little one and he didn’t know why he immediately got angry.

During the time of their marriage, Roselyn always refused getting pregnant because she didn’t want to lose her figure. Being a fashion icon, her figure was her number one priority and Kiel always respected her decision. He was with her every step of the way and now she had a baby with her? What was even more shocking was the fact that she cheated on him but didn’t see anything wrong with that, he was about to lose all his patience.

“Can you explain what exactly is going on, Roselyn?” He asked the moment he entered the room and the woman on the bed rolled her eyes to the back of her head.

“What nonsense are you spouting now, Kiel?” She was visibly frustrated as her eyes traveled over him. For the first time since they got married, Roselyn couldn’t stop herself from showing how disgusted she was.

“You think I was happy getting married to you, Kiel?” She asked him again, “don’t even try to say I loved you because I never did and father was the one who forced me to get married to a nobody like you. You are way below my standards and I always get embarrassed when I attend functions with you, can’t you read the writing on the wall?”

Kiel was dumbfounded by her outburst, not in his life would he ever think that his wife would say something as disrespectful as this to him.

“So the part where you cheated on me with…

“Cheated?” Roselyn laughed and cut him short, “I cheated on you? I wouldn’t necessarily call this cheating, Kiel since you have nothing to yourself. Look” she patted her sleeping baby lightly, “I will not have you draw me back, I must become what I want to be so I suggest better sign the papers and kiss this luxury goodbye”

Kiel finally understood everything, he had been a pawn on the chessboard since day one. The Campbell family didn’t see him as nothing more than a bagger and a fool.

The thought of it made him laugh, he must have looked like a fool all these years.

“Look Kiel” Roselyn began to speak again, “don’t cause a Scene okay? Just sign the papers and we can move on. It is not like you will forgive me for cheating on you and bearing another man’s child”

Kiel was silent, he didn’t even know what to say to her. He actually loved her even if he had nothing to offer her. He always did what she asked him and this is how she repaid him?

“Just sign the godforsaken papers and get out” Roselyn couldn’t help but yell.

Like he was being controlled, Kiel walked over to the vanity table and picked up the pen and just like that, he scribbled his signature on the pages.

After he was done, he straightened up and turned to Roselyn.

“You know why I agreed to get married to you even though I knew you were way above my league?”

“What nonsense are you saying now?” She muttered under her breath.

“I found you extremely attractive and focused on achieving your goals. I did all that and forgot about the red flags that were embedded inside of you”

“Are you trying to insult me?” Roselyn almost lost her cool, “how dare you?”

“I will stop by the office tomorrow and clear my table”

“You don’t need to come” she immediately refuted, “I will have Mira send everything to the lake house”

“Good”

Not saying anything again, he turned around and walked out of the room with her eyes following his every move.

Roselyn was supposed to be happy that she was finally rid of him but somewhere inside of her, she felt a little sad. Maybe it was because Kiel was always at her beck and call, she knew Andrew was not that jobless to do all her bidding.

“Ma’am” Gladys sauntered into the room, “Mr Kiel just left and he didn’t take anything”

A scowl appeared on her face, “what do you mean?”

“He told me to burn on his clothes and everything, he left without nothing”

“Then do as he says” she hissed, “too prideful for a man who has nothing” she further added in an angry tone.

*******

Just as he walked out of the gate, Madam Campbell’s car pulled up in front of him and the old lady alighted. Judging from the look on her face, he knew she was quite aware of everything and he couldn’t blame her. She never pretended to like him but she didn’t refuse to take his help either. He could just describe her as two faced.

“You must have known everything by now, haven’t you?” She asked him.

“I must have looked like a fool to the lot of you, mother”

“A fool?” The old lady laughed out loud, “you were more than a fool, Kiel. At times I wondered how your family raised you because you are actually nothing but I am glad Roselyn has done the needful, you deserve all the karma you are getting”

“Of course” he wasn’t even surprised, “I deserve it all”

“I wish you luck in life” she said to him after a while, “it is not like all your dreams can amount to anything”

After she was done, madam Campbell walked back to her car and Kiel watched as she drove past him into the huge mansion leaving him all alone, he has never felt useless in his entire life.

The ringing of his mobile jolted him out of his train of thought and when he saw the caller ID, he heaved a sigh before pressing it against his ear.

“Hello”

“Mr Anderson” it was a lady from the other end, “Mrs Campbell has called to send you a copy of the annulled marriage certificate. Will you come to pick it up or should I send it to the Campbell mansion?”

“Do whatever you please” he answered in a downcast voice before pressing the end button, he was not even in the mood to talk much.

With one last look at the mansion, he began to walk away and luckily he was able to find a deluxe taxi soon enough.

Without further ado, he boarded and it accelerated out of the area.

A lot was going on in his head as the car drove father away from the Campbell mansion. He must have really looked pathetic for his wife to cheat on him and as if that was not enough, she even gave birth to the child.

Kiel began to laugh while the driver looked at him through the rear mirror, he was wondering what the man in his back seat was all about.

“Are you okay, sir?” He couldn’t help but ask and this was when Kiel turned his attention to him.

“Okay?” He replied, “of course I am” he said again, “I am very much okay after finding out that my wife, ex wife sorry got pregnant for someone else and gave birth to the child and like that was not enough, she served me divorce papers”

The man behind the wheels heaved a sigh, he was not too sure what to even say to him right now. How could a woman do something like this to him?

“You must be heartbroken,” he said after a while, “how about a drink? Do not worry,  bills on me”

Kiel was speechless for a minute, he wasn’t quite sure why the old man was suddenly interested.

“Don’t get me wrong, I can totally understand what you are going through. A drink is sure to help”

“Very well then” he answered after a while, “I am down for a drink”

“Wise decision, my boy” the old man flashed him a smile and swerved to the other side of the road.
