“You are one of the strongest beings in the heavens,” the man replied. “But to reach a new peak of power, you must let go of all pride and start from the bottom. It is your choice.”

“But why can’t I remember anything?” Su Jian asked, his voice tinged with frustration.

“That is part of this trial,” the man said. “However, your weak human body has pushed you to your limits. It is time for you to regain some of your power, even if only a fragment.”

Before Su Jian could ask more, the man raised his hand, and golden light surrounded Su Jian’s body.

“Rise, Su Jian. This world needs you, and you must not succumb to weakness.”

Su Jian woke up, gasping for breath. His small room looked familiar, but the pain in his chest had changed. The burning heat was replaced by a warm energy flowing through his body.

He looked at the sword mark on his chest. The blue glow was still there, but now it felt like part of him.

“So… it was all real,” he whispered.

A knock on the door broke the silence.

“Su Jian, you need to come out and clean the yard!” one of the servants called from outside.

Su Jian didn’t respond. He slowly stood up, feeling the new energy flowing through his body. Although his body still felt weak, he knew something had changed.

When he opened the door, the servants waiting outside stared at him with surprised expressions.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Su Jian asked.

“It seems… you look different,” one of the servants mumbled.

Su Jian just shrugged and walked past them. Thankfully, today went on as usual without any significant interruptions.

Evening...

Su Jian sat on the edge of his bed, drying his hair with a towel. After today’s activities, he was finally able to clean himself and rest.

“So, I’m a heavenly being?” he muttered. “But why does this feel like someone’s game?”

He remembered all the humiliation and struggles he had gone through since marrying Lengyi. If he really was that strong, why did he have to suffer like this?

However, the man’s voice from his dream echoed in his mind. “To reach the peak of power, you must let go of all pride.”

“Maybe... this is part of the trial,” Su Jian thought.

But even though he was beginning to accept the reality, he knew that the road ahead wouldn’t be easy. This world was full of dangers and intrigues, and he had to prepare for whatever was coming.

With his hand still touching the sword mark on his chest, Su Jian whispered, “But this mark is real.”

Knok... knok...

Su Jian walked toward the door and opened it, surprised to see Lengyi standing there.

“Hm. Xia?” Su Jian said, confused.

“I don’t want to beat around the bush, here’s your outfit for tomorrow. We’ll leave early, so prepare yourself. If you’re late or forget, we’ll leave without you,” Lengyi said, then turned to walk away.

Su Jian, still confused, asked, “Where to?”

He opened the clothing bag and looked at what was inside. “Is she sure I need to wear this for tomorrow? Maybe it’s the outfit she decided on. Alright, Su Jian, get some rest so you’re not late tomorrow!”

The Next Morning...

“It doesn’t look bad at all...” he said.

In his room, Su Jian stood before the mirror, looking at his reflection in the neat outfit Lengyi had prepared for him.

“Su Jian! Hurry up or you’ll be left behind!” one of the maids working in the house called out harshly.

“I’m ready!” Su Jian half-shouted.

However, when he made it to the living room, the Xia family had already left. Su Jian asked one of the maids who was there.

“Master and Madam? They left a while ago. Didn’t you hear the call earlier? You said you’d be ready and go on your own because you were still getting ready, so they left without you,” the maid explained.

Su Jian, not knowing how to respond, felt lost. He didn’t even know where he was supposed to go.

“You’d better hurry, or you’ll embarrass Master and Madam,” the maid added, then walked away, leaving Su Jian in confusion.

“Damn it, what am I supposed to do now?”

Jinghua Pavilion...

That morning, the atmosphere at Jinghua Pavilion—the grand building where the annual cultivator meeting was held—was filled with important guests from prominent cultivator families. Expensive cars were parked neatly in the courtyard, while guests dressed in fine, elegant clothing mingled with an air of authority.

The Xia family had arrived early. Xia Lengyi, with her graceful charm and dark purple modern robe, stood among her family. Though she tried to remain calm, something was bothering her—Su Jian.

“Su Jian should have arrived by now,” Lengyi murmured, checking her phone. There were no messages or calls from her husband.

“Lengyi, you look restless. Doesn’t your husband know how to be on time?” a mocking voice came from Liang Cheng, the heir of the Liang family, who happened to be standing nearby.

Xia Lengyi turned sharply, but only responded with a cold smile. “You should mind your own business, Liang Cheng.”

Liang Cheng chuckled softly. “I’m just concerned. The Xia family’s son-in-law should be setting a good example, don’t you think? But it seems like he prefers to be an embarrassment.”

Some other guests laughed at Liang Cheng’s remark. Whispers started to circulate.

“Is it true? Xia Lengyi’s husband is late?”

“How embarrassing. He doesn’t belong in an event like this.”

“I heard he can’t do anything. I don’t understand how Lengyi can tolerate being married to him.”

Xia Lengyi clenched her fists tightly, trying to control the anger rising in her chest. Her gaze remained fixed on the entrance to the pavilion, hoping to see Su Jian’s figure. But all she saw were other guests continuing to arrive.
