At fifteen minutes to eight, Sakamo was looking at the main gate of the Hangaku manor. It took him about one hour and thirty minutes to arrive by car, even with his driver taking all sorts of shortcuts to avoid traffic. Sakamo opened the darkened window at the back of the car for the security guy assigned to the gate to see him. He took a good look at the smiling young man and went to his cubicle to open the gate.

Sakamo touched the phone and put the call over the loudspeaker. The worried voice of the Empress shouted, “Ryu! Are you alright? Your driver raised the alarm! What’s happening?”   “I am alright,

Early in the morning, Sakamo slowly opened his eyes and stared at the smile of pure bliss that Hangaku had plastered on her face. He gently moved away a curl of her hair from her forehead to kiss it. She flinched a little, still fully asleep and with the same smile. Sakamo carefully got out of bed and went to the bathroom.

Hangaku Tokimasa and his wife settled into their seats and awaited their drinks. He looked around the room, scanning who was seated. It was becoming quite a turnout. Just as he scanned the room, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Hangaku Mae and Sakamo Ryu standing, waiting for the hostess. The look between him and his wife was evidence of his displeasure.
