Chapter 2 INTO THE SEA, LAMOA - Part 4
Meanwhile: After putting some distance between themselves and the party that had attacked the gnomes they stopped catching their breath. They weren’t after them but Lira didn’t want to take any chance, just in case. They hadn’t expended much energy but saving up on their strength was vital for their long journey and survival. “Are you okay?” She looked at Allora. They were ways from ruins where they had seen the party of four. At the moment they were before the only building—though more than half buried in the sand, obviously a scrapper—inclined, which was crumbling. The others around were nothing but slabs laying in the sands. Lira could still see the dread on her face, that she hadn’t quite accepted what she witnessed making her rather a bit tensed. They hadn’t gone that far—albeit the distance—and she, Allora, had seen such a scene, the very same Lira had hoped to avoid her ever seeing. From the corner of her eyes she could see Lira tensed up. A moment after she replaced her

Chapter 2 INTO THE SEA, LAMOA - Part 5 (r18)
“Days of walking, I forgot how long I had been on the sands. Eventually, I wandered into the camp of a party of hunters.” On guard, waiting as the staggering steps got closer, they saw the outline of a small figure. It drew closer. The figure dazedly entered the area of the glow of the camp fire only to trip and fall face down from hitting small chunk of concrete buried in the ground. “A child?” The party’s leader was the first to voice out. The five year old looked scrawny and was in rags. They relaxed a bit. “What’s a child doing all the way out here?” “Even so we can’t let our guards down. For all we know she could be bait for an ambush. Noha!” Giving the party lead a look, Noha returned his knives to their scabbards and slowly walked off. Geb placed his axe back on the ground still tightly holding on to it. Reid sheathed his sword. Lauralyn as well. The party lead on the other hand returned to his seat, stabbing the sword into the ground waiting on Noha. Reid still standi

Chapter 2 INTO THE SEA, LAMOA - Part 6
“Honestly, I was scared of what might have happen at first. Would it be the same as before…? Maybe a part of me had already given up and didn’t care what happened to me anymore. I felt like I had been stripped of my own will. But even if it wasn’t so, where else would I have gone to. It was my first time in the outside world, but considering the blurred large expanse I saw when walking I knew there was nowhere to run.” She said, staring intently to the knife in her hands—obviously hiding those ‘irrelevant’ occurrence. The flames danced before Lauralyn, the glow accentuating her beauty as she solemnly spoke. Allora still resting her head on Lira’s shoulder also had a solemn look. She couldn’t help it. Instead of knowing more (little, as a general knowledge since she didn’t say anything much upon her arrival at the ruin) about her friend the little she had heard made she couldn’t help but wonder: what happened to her before that? When the morning came Lauralyn squatted in front of a y

The sun rose and they had already set off, straddling onward. The winds blurred caring grains of sand in the air, fluttering their wears. Lauralyn, Reid, Warwick and Reid had their cape on with the exception of Noha who had the hood that was an extension of his armor. Lira on the other hand walked under the bare heat. There wasn’t much they could do on that ground. The spare left belonged to Noha and there was a certainty he would not be happy giving to her. That said even if he did it would be a drag for her. “Monsters… There isn’t much to explain about them. They are vile creatures which roam… We don’t know where they come from but all we know, they are and it’s our job to kill them.” “I suppose you’re wondering where we are headed… it’s been so long since we’ve been home. We are done with what we were assigned to so that’s where we are headed.” “You shouldn’t tell the child that. We still can’t trust her.” Warwick at the forefront looked behind to Lauralyn. The look in his eyes

A couple days later… High up at peak the sun shone brightly. In the distance the floor shone a silver color, rippling like the ocean from centuries before, a mirage. The day before, the sun had baked the desert floor with an intense heat draining out the water which was soaked into the sand. “So do you remember where you came from?” Glancing her way she got no reply from Lira who shook her head—obviously hiding it. “I don’t know exactly where you came from, the situation around your upbringing, as you might have seen, the world out here isn’t favorable. We, all races, may not have been able to survive this long, but if the little rain and land that could bear. But it’s just a matter of time before we are plunged into extinction but before that they will all fight for the little that is left. And—” “Stragglers in bound. Ready yourselves.” Warwick, from the front suddenly took to a stance halting everyone. Not far away a trio of monsters drew in. On reflex everybody readied the

When the morning came so did the lessons begin. Reid took to a knee and Lauralyn sat cross-legged on a small cloth she laid before Lira. “Listen and let it be your foundation. The blade is an extension of you being. Inanimate it may be but with a soul of its own. The way of the blade is resonating with the soul with its sheen letting you thoughts through its reach. This not only goes for the blade but any and every other weapon. The souls of these weapons can be fiery and wild or calm and cold. Either way the approach to taming and mastering those souls is the duty of its user. I will be teaching you how to handle the blade. Along with that; Know this little one: any and everything can be used as a weapon and one must take advantage of the situation and the present element at your disposal. So alongside learning the blade you will know the basics of how to handle any other weapon.” Lectured Reid. “And I building on your survival skills and instincts. I think I’d throw in a few basic

When she returned to the camp she found Lira crouched to a block sitting beside a sleeping Geb, quiet as usual, though she looked a bit shaken up. “What happened? She came in looking rather panicked.” Reid came closer and Warwick a few steps away and well with earshot. “You guessed right…” “Did you?” “No. I didn’t. He’s ‘calming’ himself.” She said holding back a laugh. “The kid didn’t need my help. She had everything under control and broke free, delivering a good kick to his wood. Bet he didn’t see that coming. Bastard froze before realizing what happened. Funny as hell.” She laughed a little “She would be terrifying in the future that is…” The change wasn’t subtle as her voice went soft, clearly implying on their current circumstance. “That good… but I doubt that would stop him.” “I did give him a warning…” “Would that be enough to stop him?” “I have my doubts.” Warwick commented. “Should he try that again I plan on doing what I said.” Lauralyn replied resolutely. That ver

Everything feels dark. Not the normal dark I’ve always felt anytime I tried closing my eyes. It’s almost comforting, almost like back in the ruins were I had been out for three days. An empty blankness, somehow. It’s not like the feeling I had when my body was taken over. My mind just woke up from the sleep… at least I can call it that, since I couldn’t feel the world around me. Like haze I start to feel the world around me. It’s slowly becoming clear. My body seems to be shaking, like someone is trying to wake me. Oh yeah, that’s right, Iya—wait Iya, I don’t know what happened. Is she alright!? Before I could have a grip on my mind my upper body shoots upright. I catch Iya taken aback, but not startled, like she was expectant. The calmness on her face almost like mine. The mystery about her, about these actions of mine… I don’t know. My own safety is not my concern, but not once or twice could I stop myself from moving for hers. It’s just mind-boggling. And somewhere within me I

Chapter 2 INTO THE SEA, LAMOA - Part 12
Not too long ago the last of the orange glow from the setting sun dissipated shrouding the canyon in darkness. The stars were out and moon hung high up in the cold night sky. It’s silvery glow highlighting the rocky terrain and illuminating all that loitered its calm surface. As much as I like the fact of filling my belly I hate it when I have monsters for sustenance. The work done just to eat is time consuming. I’d like to devour them from where they fell but that would be messy(?). It feels idealistic to think this but I’d like to retain that part of my ‘humanity’ if I can—that is if sitting with a freshly hunted monster’s flesh in my hand eating it raw and relishing in that nectar-like scent of blood count as anything human—instead of acting like the monster I am. Grabbing the tail of one of the monsters that had every part of it intact I drag it behind me heading for the cliffside. Thud! I give a tug dropping the corpse. Grabbing one of it’s hind legs I grab my blade severing th

Chapter 2 INTO THE SEA, LAMOA - Part 13
It hadn’t been a long walk—A couple or more hours or so, give or take—before seeing some structures ahead. A box-like rectangular roof stood on two pillars and two smaller rectangular boxes distanced from each other sitting under it. An old filling station. Perpendicular to the structure sat a building. On the inside I could see the roof had caved in, the shelves were broken and rusted and a few rusted cans and plastics on around.. Both structures look, a wreck. There are few buildings as well opposite the two, a bit of distance away. Maybe a small settlement. Far beyond that—well not too far even by my standard a—straight ahead I see a the usual tall buildings. We—including the little beast would had kept following Iya—walk to the structure, standing between the structure with two pillars and the small settlement. It looks, deserted and there is a faint familiar smell drifting into my nose. We make way into the place, the scent is getting strong. The buildings were made of brick
