Chapter Thirty One
"It looks even worse the second time," Rebecca groaned as she tried to hold back the retches that tried to force their way out. "You never answered my question Vincent." "I'm thinking it was neither of those two," he replied as he focused his attention on the corpse. "If you don't think it was an animal or a person, then who did do it?" "That's what I'm here to find out, isn't it?" He bent low over the body and reached behind him. "Hand me the forceps please. The scalpel too." Legally she was not supposed to allow him to touch the corpses since that would be 'tampering with the evidence'. But this was not Rebecca's first time dealing with a disturbing murder case. From the expressions of the police who had brought in the bodies, she knew already that they had very little intention of looking deeper into this. In other words, these bodies had just as much legal importance as roadkill. She did as he asked and he began to work on the body. Using the forceps, he pulled b

Chapter Thirty Two
After Vincent had left the school for the morgue, Diane had intended to go to the principal's office as per Michael's request. Her last class had kept her busy for more than two hours and the other academic duties related to her work only served to delay her even more. The end result was that by the time she was finally on her way to the administrative building, it was already several hours past noon. An institution as large and complex as Starlight Central Academy would require far more staff to run than av regular college. Thus it was not strange to imagine that an entire building has been set apart solely for administrative personnel. The five storey building was occupied by efficient workers dedicated to ensuring the smooth running of the school. The fact that these people still had to go about their duties with haste was a testament to how complicated the school management was. Diane stepped through the rotating glass doors and was instantly met with a room buzzing with

Chapter Thirty Three
"Come on Elena! Hurry up!" Whitney called out to the girl behind her. "I'm moving as fast as I can already!" The two girls had been training privately together in the forest behind their dorms daily in an effort to get Elena up to shape after she recovered her magic. Some might think it was risky considering the recent killings but Whitney had never been one to let fear dictate her actions. At the moment she was extremely glad she had not. Their usual training session had barely begun when they saw the bright explosion light up the night sky. Brief and muffled as it had been, it could have easily been mistaken for a random firework but for witches who had spent years under the teachings of the Arcane Circle, it meant something much more. As with every other organized group in the world, the Arcane Council had a set of protocols that were designed for certain conditions. The burst of light in the sky had not been the result of a firework, it had been a flare spell t

Chapter Thirty Four
Elena could not even react before the beast slapped her away. It walked out of the pillar of fire, parts of its body still burning and its white eyes had rage filled veins in them. It turned Whitney onto her back and opened its jaws to chomp down on her neck. Just before it could do so, it caught sight of the tattoo on her forearm where her sleeve had ridden up. "You're lucky you've been cursed already," the beast growled out as it closed its teeth filled mouth. "Enjoy the days you have left, witch. When your time is up, I will be there to devour your soul. For now though, I will sate my hunger with this." It placed a hand above her face and tiny glittering motes of crimson energy rose up from her face to be absorbed into its hand. The more it absorbed, the paler Whitney became until an extremely powerful blade of wind sliced its hand clean off. The beast roared in pain and turned its head to see Elena glaring murderously at it. An uprooted tree hovered in the air above her.

Chapter Thirty Five
Michael's closed eyes narrowed as he felt the massive fireball raging in his direction. The attack was powerful in its own right and covered a large range, a good tactic to minimize the chances of an opponent dodging. But to someone like him, such attacks were less than useless. With a single pulse of his power, the fireball dissipated in an instant. On instinct, he leapt back just in time for a blade of wind to carve out a large groove where he had previously stood. The moment he landed, he ducked low to avoid the second blade of wind that threatened to decapitate him and swiveled his head to lock on the position of his opponent. Light footsteps tapped softly on the ground as his attacker circled round him to find a better angle of attack. He smirked slightly when the footsteps stopped as his opponent realized what he had been doing. But it was already too late. With a powerful leap, he jumped in their direction. Midair he adjusted his body slightly to dodge a vertical s

Chapter Thirty Six
Lee strode down the crowded hallway with his hands tucked in his front pockets. The last of the morning lectures had just ended and students filled the hallways, most of them still exiting their classes. Not that Lee cared for that anyway. Lee was not like the other Hunters. It was true that they had all agreed to participate in this program, but there was a reason he had been so against it in the first place. The Hunters were humanity's protectors. In fact they protected all innocent creatures, human or otherwise, as long as they caused no trouble. With a cause like their own, one would think all five of them would be paragons of good virtues. That might have been true for the others, Lee was not particularly sure what they did in their own time, but not for him. There was a trait that Lee had, one that his teammates were aware of. It was the biggest challenge that had faced them after they had accepted the three factions' proposal, even bigger than Olivia's issues. The pro

Chapter Thirty Seven
Art was regarded as the most common form of expressing one's innermost thoughts. With a history dating back to possibly even earlier than the beginning of civilization, art was one of the few aspects of human life that had been incorporated into the culture of various supernaturals. Even more so for certain races who tended to exist for extended periods of time and experience great events during said time. As far as the vampires were concerned, art was the best representation of the immortal existence that the race was so commonly known by. Having spent her entire life as a noble of the vampire race, Veronica had been taught the various uses, representations and importance of art. Her father had not attempted to force anything on her when she was younger; as a vampire, he knew she would have more than enough time to learn anything she wished. Rather it had been at her insistence that her tutors had endeavored to impact on her every single piece of knowledge they possessed regar

Chapter Thirty Eight
Before the afternoon classes had concluded, the entire school had heard of the party and anticipation was quite high for such a small event. Of course considering who was hosting the shindig, there was no possible way it would be small. Apparently to maintain reputation as well as emphasize the stature of the party, Bryan had restricted invitations to only specific people throughout the school. To be precise, only individuals who held a certain level of prestige among the others in their years had been invited, with a small number of them being referred to as VIPs. The latter were people that Bryan himself had bothered to invite personally. It had come as quite a shocker to Michael when he had realized that none of the vampires had been invited despite them making up more than half of the coolest freshmen in the school. Not even Veronica had been asked to attend, something that seemed to irk her more than she would have liked if the scowl on her face when he had passed her some

Chapter Thirty Nine
"I just wanted to help him." "Who? Michael?" Olivia asked. "Yeah," Mia nodded sullenly. "When we were training, he had this look on his face. It was like he wasn't even there. I didn't really know what to make it it so I just thought that maybe he was getting sick of me. The way I acted earlier must not have really helped either." Her melancholy was broken by the sudden sound of Olivia's melodious laughter. "Sick of you? Mia, to be honest with you, I haven't seen Michael act the way he does whenever you're around. I don't know why he seemed off during your stay in the Ultra Rem but I'm sure it wasn't your fault. No matter what it may seem like, I can tell that he is genuinely happy to teach you. He just... has a lot on his mind right now." Slightly comforted by the older female's words, the young witch leaned forward on the balcony, a furtive look on her face. "No kidding. He did nothing but toss me around in that place. Although getting my ass handed to me in another d

Chapter Forty
The man grunted dismissively and Bryan bowed before retreating to a corner of the room, his glazed over eyes reflecting in the darkness. Kneeling over the first of the bodies, the man began a ritualistic chant as he worked on etching strange symbols on the unconscious girl's face and arms. When he finished the last of the symbols, he tapped a clawed finger on the girl's forehead and suddenly her eyes sprang open. Even though she seemed to have regained consciousness, her body refused to move an inch, something that bothered her a great deal as could be inferred from the franticness in her eyes. Suddenly a unnatural darkness creeped up from the corner of her eyes. At the same time, her body began to radiate invisible magic energy, as if the vessels that conducted her power throughout her body had been broken and her energy leaking out. The darkness gradually spread until her entire eyes were covered after which she went instantly still. The only sign that she was still alive being t
