CHAPTER 41
When Justin got pushed from the floating island, he screamed so hard his uvula was very much up for view.Piss escaped through his fleshy pipe in the pants before he knew it. But his crying didn’t slow his fall by any means. Those few seconds passed by faster than ever. He gave up on his life, though his throat still kept screaming.Just as he was crashing in the middle of a street, a bubble rose out of the ground and cushioned him and trapped him inside, completely robbing him of his momentum. And then the bubble popped.Myles landed next to him, his feet softly tapping the ground.Justin was still in so much shock he couldn’t believe he was still alive.Myles shut his own nose. “I didn’t know you’d piss in your pants. Or, I wouldn’t have pushed you. Let’s get a change of clothes.”There wasn’t much crowd at all around them because most people had run away from that location, afraid that the floating island might collapse any moment.Alpha Johnson was coincidentally passing by at a s

CHAPTER 42
“The cobra crystal is mine!” Dr. Dave looked pretty determined as he flew over to where the reading had come up.Just as he got there, the crystal disappeared out of Myles hand as Myles thought Justin might not be able to bear the poisonous power of the crystal. After all, not just anybody could absorb crystals. From what Justin himself had told him, eating critters’ meat or mutated plant matter were the two best ways to boost one’s physical capabilities. And then one would be able to absorb a star crystal’s power much better.Otherwise, the chances of people dying from swallowing even simple, low-ranked star crystals were moderately high.Even though Justin had worked as a border guard, he was never able to eat even a single chunk of critter meat because all the beasts caught or killed were taken away. They weren’t allowed to eat any, for eating these critters without permission would result in hefty fines and also time spent in prison. When Dr. Dave arrived where Myles and Justin we

CHAPTER 43
Justin’s heart jumped into his throat when he saw the huge piece of land come falling down onto him. “AHHH!” Before he knew it, he screamed and jumped and sat upon Myles’ waist.“Heaven’s Net,” Myles uttered, and the massive piece of land stopped midway and floated in the air.“Eh?” Justin couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “What did you do? Why did it stop like that?”“Close,” Myles closed his fist, and the massive piece of land vanished into thin air.Justin’s face froze like that of a monkey that had seen a magic trick. He had no clue how Myles pulled it off. “What in the world did I just see?”“Forget about that,” Myles said, looking a little disgusted, “but you should first get down. You rubbed all your pee-soaked pants on my shirt.”“U-Uh,” Justin jumped down, “my bad. I’m really sorry.” He never jumped in fear like that before. He had seen many fights and been part of many as well, but a mountain sized land coming down from the sky was beyond scary. He was glad that he didn’t

CHAPTER 44
On his way down the floating institute, Dave sent a message to all the alphas of the city using his neurons to trigger a wireless message like telepathy. The nanochips embedded on the back of their necks sent sensory information, which was received and perceived by their neurons pretty fast.At that moment, Dave also received an alert message that the message couldn’t be delivered to Alpha Amir. Dave checked the live heart status with his thought process alone, and he saw that the reading was zero, which meant that Amir somehow removed the nanochip from his body or Amir died.Dave didn’t have the time to wonder what was the case because he landed on the ground, only a few feet away from Rosie and Maria. He could feel the power of the cobra crystal coming from Rosie’s hand.“So, it is with you two, after all,” Dave grinned. “Give it to me.”Shreya and Blue Dog also arrived, wearing cold looks on their faces. In a couple of seconds, the other alphas flashed before them, except for Lexi.

CHAPTER 45
Rosie jumped in and blocked Johnson’s huge claws with her water sword. Maria created a water whip and tightly sealed Blue Dog up.“The crystal is destroyed,” Rosie reasoned with a stern voice. “What are you guys still fighting for?”“Yeah,” Maria backed her daughter. “Let us leave this city. If we fight here, your city will suffer further destruction.”Dave raised both of his hands. Holes opened up in his palms and shot out four nets, which caught all four of those involved in battle and also Myles and Justin. The black metallic wires moved on their own and rearranged themselves so that they freed Blue Dog and Johnson before sealing up the mother and daughter and Myles and Justin in one large net.“Dammit,” Rosie felt her energy being drained. “Is this net made of stardium?” She couldn’t use her water ability anymore. Nanoparticles flowed out of the net and seeped into her skin and infiltrated her body and caused an internal shock. She was brought to her knees.Dave looked at Maria. “

CHAPTER 46
Verella had just broken free out of the petrification. And she was gasping. “Nobody told me Amir had such a deadly attack. If I was prepared, I wouldn’t have suffered such a humiliating defeat. Nobody has seen it, right?” she looked around, and there were a lot of institute’s students and teachers that were looking right at her. (Ah! Shit. There goes all my fame down the drain! Mm?) Her ears caught rumbling noises that came from below. She came to the edge and looked down.At least a square mile of land was all eaten up by the herculean worm, which also swallowed all the alphas along with it and came soaring straight up toward Verella.Verella had no time to ponder about the people on the island. She immediately jumped away, and the giant worm went onto gobble up the two halves of the floating institute and all the students and teachers along with it.Verella was shocked by its sheer size, but after seeing how its body kept shedding smaller worms through its skin, her expression froze

CHAPTER 47
The baby worms were so hungry they tried to eat everything in sight, whether it be benches in the street or the living and breathing humans, it seemingly made not much of a difference to them. Their baby teeth were already able to dig through wood and metal with little effort.A group of worms attacked a skyscraper and began eating its walls and pillars from the lower floors, causing the whole building to crumble. This resulted in the deaths of thousands, but the worms drilled through the rubble and ate the dead humans, not leaving anything precious untouched.Though the mages were doing their best to stop the worms, either directly confronting the worms with their own strength or by using the drones to shoot them from the sky. However, the sheer number of worms still proved extremely difficult to handle. Many worms managed to either kill the mages or slip through their defenses.Sukazu, a delta mage, used his star seal to craft wind attacks to send worms flying in every direction. Ho

CHAPTER 48
The loud cry of the Mother Worm was enough to eat away the confidence of not just civilians but many of the mages as well. However, the Mother Worm that was still standing up like a tower sprayed yellowish spit high into the air. And it fell everywhere in the city and melted everything it touched. The humans or the metal structures, it didn’t matter. And the melted masses were happily gorged on by the baby worms that also ate away the yellowish spit of their mother. It was truly a gut-stirring sight to watch even for Dave who had seen his own share of battles in his lifetime. He was someone who experimented even on innocent children for the sake of research, but he still valued human life. So he felt enraged to see so many souls dying left and right.“This damned monster wasn’t this big when I last saw it years ago. How did it grow so big?”Stardium worked effectively on human mages, but it wasn’t much effective on critters, so Dave had to use his technological prowess to tackle this

CHAPTER 49
Lexi was riding her flying lizard and was observing all the ongoing destruction, wearing a neutral face. The low-level mages that used star-seals couldn’t fight back against the baby worms for long because their weapons had restrictions and limits. And without their weapons, they were no better than sitting ducks against these voracious worms. Only those mages who had absorbed a star crystal’s power were able to use skills on their own, without having to rely on faulty star-seals, and somewhat withstood the attack of the baby worms.A baby worm managed to fly past the lizard’s tongue and reached Lexi, but after smelling her scent, it stopped attacking and started licking her. “Good boy,” Lexi patted the worm before throwing it into the air. The lizard caught it with the tongue and pulled it into its mouth and chewed on it. Lexi kept smiling. The lizard flew to where the Mother Worm was, and Dave kept fighting the giant beast alone when everyone else had fallen. Parts of his body also

CHAPTER 50
Because of the acid rain that the mother worm had showered upon the whole city, a lot of the towers and defense equipment had fallen. Many flying drones were taken down, and so many more mages lost their lives. Even more civilians perished because of the poisonous vapors the acid had released. People panicked and fled for their lives as the purple fog kept filling the city. A few seconds was enough for the people to get choked to death in the fog. And the baby worms greedily fed on those who died. Many flying drones took off in different directions and left the island for good. People fought each other for a place in any flying vehicle, for traveling on a ship was the same as committing suicide. The chances of reaching another island safely were zero. Justin’s ex-wife, Casey, also tried her best to get on a transport vehicle, but only the family members of the still-alive mages were given preference. Even though she somehow managed to get on the vehicle, she was pushed out by Kong w
