Chapter 221
“I think he sees where Logan is going with this,” Logan nodded. “He thinks those guys they killed may have left their, uh, DNA inside some of the surviving members.”“Exactly,” Abina confirmed. “He knows. He's much smarter than he looks.”“So how do they cast this spell?” Logan asked the elves.“We need Rafe’s book,” Kelda explained. “The one that originally summoned Abina and Logan to Earth. Does Rafe still have it?”The goblin pondered for a moment and then grinned. “You of all people should know I treat that shit like a credit card,” the goblin snickered. “Never leave home without it. It’s back in Stella’s trunk.”“Excellent,” the elves nodded. “Then they need to get back to the vehicle immediately.”“They can’t just fly back over to where they parked,” Logan warned and pointed down at the commotion below. “There’s a ton of people down there. Cops, news crews, you name it. They can’t risk blowing their cover that badly.”“So what is he suggesting?” Rafe asked. “Does he want th

“Traveling with a demonic GPS,” Logan mused as they sped down the road. “I don’t know about you guys, but this is definitely a first for me.”“I’ve done tracking spells before,” Kelda admitted, “but they were never quite like this.”The piece of glowing fabric was floating in the air directly in front of their vehicle, dead-set on finding its target. The only issue was that it was speeding through the night like a bullet train, and they had to push their Maserati to the limits just to keep up. They whipped around a turn, and for a split second, Logan swore he felt the vehicle go up on two wheels.“This is so awesome!” Rafe exclaimed from Ira’s lap. “I feel like a super-spy, driving through the city at breakneck speeds late at night, off to save two damsels in distress. All I’m missing is my tuxedo.”“It looks like we’re headed toward the headquarters of the Servi Domini Nostri and the Pearly Gates,” Ira said as she studied a map on her screen.“Of course the one with the Latin nam

Logan couldn’t help but grin at the goblin's enthusiasm. “Lookin’ good, Rafe. Now get in there and whip us up a distraction. They’re probably hiding out in the basement.”“If only I had a jukebox to punch …” the goblin pondered as he opened the front doors and strutted inside.“Follow me,” Logan commanded the elves. “There’s got to be a back door we can use. We’ll wait for Rafe to distract the cultists and the demon, and then we’ll sneak in and set your sisters free.”They slunk back behind the yellowish-brown brick building, toward the entrance in the rear. The double glass doors were locked, but it was gonna take a lot more than that to keep out Logan Ralston.Logan closed his eyes, cast a quick spell of emerald over the elves and himself, and teleported them inside. The interior of the former church was laid out much like you’d expect of a local community center. These particular doors led them directly into the open stairwell of the building, and they were greeted with pale, c

"Civil?" Logan nodded cautiously. "Right. You must be Ukobach.""In the flesh." The demon sighed. "Look, Ralston, they can do this one of two ways. You and your friends can walk away, and all will be forgiven, or they can stay, and they'll be killed.""Tough words coming from a demon that looks like a bobblehead," Logan growled. "I'm not letting you kill Tris and Gula.""When will you mortals learn?" Ukobach said as he shook his head sadly. "They're going to drain those two elves of their power one way or another. In fact, adding five more deliciously powerful casualties to this endeavor would please their master greatly. He'd become more powerful than Azar could ever imagine!""I'm the one who needs to learn a lesson?" Logan scoffed. "Name one demon who's figured out how to beat me. Go ahead, I'll wait."The short demon snickered and shook his head. "You're just as cocky as Aruna warned us," he mused. "Where is the Rakshasi, anyways? Not dead, I hope. She was quite a lovely woman

His attack struck Ukobach directly in the stomach, and the small demon was thrown backward into the wall with a crash. Logan dashed across the room and slid to a stop right beside Rafe. “You alright, bro?” he asked the injured goblin.“Never better,” Rafe lied. “Although I did learn the Stone Cold Stunner isn’t as effective as it looks on TV.”Ukobach hopped back to his feet and readied his weapon.“What the heck is that, anyway?” Rafe asked. “Is that a fire poker? Who the heck uses a fire poker as their weapon of choice?”“If you must know,” the demon hissed, “it’s used to stoke the fires of Hell themselves. My trusty sidearm has served me well for centuries, and it will look simply marvelous with both of your heads mounted on top of it!”Ukobach let out a weak roar as he propelled himself through the air and swung at Logan with his red-hot iron. The little demon was quick, but Logan was much quicker. He caught the blow of the demon with a burst of violet fire, and then he blas

Logan landed on his feet and saw Rafe shoot off another bout of baseball-sized fireballs at the demon. Ukobach simply laughed, held out his hand, and absorbed the projectiles as if they were droplets of water.Logan explained to the goblin, "I don't think we can defeat him with our normal magic. It looks like his fear powers let him absorb anything we throw his way."Ira growled, "Fine by me. I'd love to get all up in those guts. Literally."The elves' body was encased with pink flames, and then she split into her two forms. The dom was already holding her morning star at the ready, and the sub held her own arm bone in her hand. The submissive elves ran a flaming hand over the tip of the hilt, and a glowing red whiptail appeared.Logan asked Tris and Gula, "Please tell me you guys have some hand-to-hand weapons."Tris scoffed and pulled out a pistol from the waistband of her pants, saying, "Please. I may hate fighting, but I'm always prepared to defend myself."Rafe excla

Logan closed his eyes and thought about everything that was at stake. He didn't know much about Beelzebub, but if what Kelda and Abina had told him was true, he was even worse than Azar. If Beelzebub's minion won here today, that was it. The armies of the Divine would fall, the human race would be wiped out, and, most importantly, all of his friends would either be killed or sent back to Hell with a cruel new master. Logan sure as heck wasn't going to let that happen. Suddenly, his entire soul felt warm. Maybe it was just the shock from the wounds, or maybe it was the Divine energy that coursed through his body. Either way, he got his second wind, and then his horns grew even longer as the area around him glowed brighter and brighter with Divine light. There was only one way he could end this. With a big boom. “Kelda, Abina, Tris!” Logan called out to the elves. “We need to get clear and go up!” Kelda dodged out of the way of Ukobach’s blow, sprouted her wings, a

"Logan inquired, 'Invidia?'The dark-haired elves gave Logan a sad nod. 'The Sister of Envy is the last piece of the puzzle when it comes to defeating Azar. Also, I’m starting to miss her. Seeing the rest of my friends back together makes me yearn to have her back in the group.''We will save Invidia, Sister,' Kelda promised. 'Even if we have to literally travel through Hell to do so.''You guys are so overdramatic,' a sly voice observed.Logan flipped around and saw Aruna standing in the corner of the room, with her arms crossed, leaning against the wall. The assassin was wearing a casual green Kurti dress that perfectly matched her dark hair and eyes.'How long have you been there?' Logan questioned the Rakshasi. 'And how did you know where to find us?''I’m a bounty hunter, Logan,' she cooed. 'I’m just here to get my payment. After all, it looks like my information led to something important.'Logan walked over to the kitchen drawer where he kept his checkbook and pulled ou

“Are you sure this thing is safe, bro?” Rafe asked over the roar of the tiny Cessna seaplane. “I think I saw a piece of the wing fly off a minute ago.”“Relax, son,” the pilot promised from the front. “I’ve been flyin’ since before you were born. Those fuckers weren’t able to shoot me down over in ‘Nam, and it’ll be a cold day in Hell if Ted Rubble crashes his plane on the Canadian side of the border!” "It'll be okay, Rafe," Logan reassured the goblin who was disguised in his human form. "Mr. Rubble here was the best pilot their money could buy.""How much is he getting for this?" Rafe demanded. "I thought you said we were almost broke?""That's irrelevant," Logan said with a wave of his hand."Ted is very skilled," Abina chimed in. "He'll get them to their destination just fine.""But will he get us there in one piece?" Rafe whispered with a raised finger. "I think I saw a gremlin out on the wing.""That was an episode of Twilight Zone," Logan said as he rolled his eyes. "

"Alright," Logan called up to the pilot. "Is that enough space for you to put 'er down?" Mr. Rubble turned around and looked at Logan with glee in his eyes. "Son," he explained, "I could put a plane down on the Erie Canal if I had to." The pilot then reached up and grabbed the walkie-talkie-like device from his dashboard. "Attention all passengers," his voice rang through their headsets. "We are about to make our descent. We'd ask that you please buckle your seatbelts and remain seated until the plane has come to a full stop." Abina, Ira, and Logan all fastened the small black belts around their waists, but Rafe remained unmoved. After a moment or two, Logan motioned for the goblin in disguise to do the same. "Nope," Rafe shook his head. "Not doing it. I don't believe in seatbelts." "You don't believe in--" "Look," Jakey tried to explain. "The Rafester's all about freedom and living life on the edge. If I don't wanna wear my seatbelt, then why
