THE BOMB
But the man got lost in the crowd. There were more people here than Alarick had expected but there was nothing he or his men could do but to wait and try and protect them if anything went wrong. They couldn’t chase them away and if they began evacuating, Dylan would be alerted that there were officers in the building disguised as civilians.Just as Alarick had given up on finding the man, there was an announcement over the public address system. Everyone, including Alarick, looked towards a small podium that had been erected in the middle of the complex where the voice was coming from. It was Dylan. He stood on top the podium and grinned at the crowd, his mask partially covering his eyes that held malice. A red velvet curtain obscuring the rest of the stage behind him.“I hope you are all enjoying looking around the stores, and the other attractions like games that we prepared specially for this reopening.”Thunderous positive shouts filled the room simultaneously as people clapped t

THE HIDDEN FIGURE
As the doors closed shut, Dylan let out a loud laugh. He slapped his thigh as he looked at different people’s facial expressions. Some held fear, some had already come to the conclusion of accepting their imminent death, some anger and some trying to appear nonchalant through it all. Alarick was one of those who gave Dylan a stoic look when their eyes met, but compared to the others who only tried to fake bravery, Alarick was calm and level headed, ready to take on Dylan. The assigned men of the alpha team that were locked inside the building with Alarick and the others assembled and began to move towards Dylan with their weapons drawn but hidden as Alarick walked through the crowd and towards the stage. Dylan who was oblivious to their stealthy movement at first finally picked it up and raised his hands which contained a small remote. He shook his head. "Tsk, tsk. You brought a lot of men in here you sneaky bastard. I'll give you points for that but if any of your men take another

THE MASTERMIND REVEALED
Dylan’s declaration was the last thing that everyone in the hall heard before several rounds of bullets were fired and gunshots filled their ears. Alarick ran for the pillar closest to him to avoid getting hit by the heavy amount of gunfire being aimed at him while Dylan went closer to the stage for more cover from his men. Although there were only three men at first including Dylan two more upon hearing the commotion came out from behind the stage to assist, covering Dylan from the front and making the bad guys a total of five men. Amidst the gunfire, Alarick shouted out.“Give it up Dylan. Even with your extra men, you’re still outnumbered. Surrender now and you won’t be killed.”Dylan cackled.“Not a chance, King. We both know that you’re the one who’s going to die here today.” Dylan said arrogantly.Alarick huffed at Dylan’s stance on the surrender and knew that the man wouldn’t budge. He turned around and shot at Dylan and his men continuously before he suddenly stopped, confuse

BARGAINING CHIP
"Did you miss me?"Grace’s words stuck with Alarick as his feet stayed rooted to the ground. His face contorted in disbelief, stupefied at the fact that the person he once thought was dead, stood before him with an evil smirk on her face. The air was tense and everyone could feel it, especially Alarick.No. This was just a bad joke, a bad dream even. It couldn't be real. Alarick shook his head, willing the image of Grace holding a weapon to Charlotte's head to disappear but it didn't work as his negative thoughts were reinforced by Grace's voice once more."Come on Alarick. Not even a welcome home? I thought you missed me. I thought you would be glad to see me okay. Or was your concern for me and your grief all a lie?""Grace. How? How is this even possible? How are you here?" Alarick asked because that was all his brain was fixated on right now.Grace strengthened her stance and held on to Charlotte."It's called acting and turns out that I'm pretty good at it. I planned my death, Al

BOMB SQUAD
"There’s no guarantee that she won’t let the bomb detonate once she’s in the clear." Maurice said as Grace had left the building with Charlotte. “She wants me to sign over my company to her, I can’t do that when I’m dead. She knows that killing everyone means I’ll die as well, I don’t think she’ll take the risk and detonate it.” Alarick said.“Still, I’m not taking any chances. I don’t trust her.” Maurice responded to Alarick. He and two members of the bomb squad that came on the mission ran towards it at lightning speed trying to ascertain how to turn it off without automatically setting it off. No one trusted what Grace had said so they had to make sure that she wasn't playing them. Everyone was on high alert due to the bomb that was still slowly but surely counting down to zero. All except Alarick. Alarick stood in the middle of the hall, a few feet from Dylan's corpse staring at the hallway Grace walked out of, still bewildered. He still couldn't believe what happened. SHOCKING NEWS
It was too late. They weren’t fast enough. Behind them, there was an explosion as the countdown got to zero. But nothing happened to any of them, nor did the building collapse or go up in flames. Just the loud sound of something exploding but no effects. Alarick, still in the cover of his men, opened his eyes when he noticed that he felt no pain. His hands touched parts of his body to make sure that he was actually alright and not just in shock. Once he was sure that he was fine, he looked around. All his men and Maurice were alive and looking around the room wondering why they didn’t die from the large explosion that they heard.“What the hell just happened?” Maurice said.Alarick looked forward and walked towards the bomb fragments that he saw on the floor a way back. He bent down and picked up something that he didn’t expect to see from a bomb. Confetti. Alarick scrunched his nose at the revelation. The bomb had blown up like it was supposed to but instead of actually killing every

GETTING THEIR SIGNATURES
Alarick arrived at the office early that morning with a grim look on his face. He had called all the members of the board for an emergency meeting that weekend. Most of them were not happy to come around the office on their days off but they had no choice. It was important matter they needed to discuss but he didn’t know how the board members would take the news.Alarick walked into the lobby of the company where he was accompanied by his secretary Vivian who had a tablet in one of her hands and a heap of folders in her other. She balanced the load as she walked behind Alarick and into the elevator. “Sir, I don’t really mind being here on the weekend but why are we here especially this early in the day? Did something go wrong?”Alarick pressed the button of the floor that they needed to go to before speaking.“Sorry for the early call. I know I don’t normally do this but I needed you to work overtime this weekend. You'll be paid a bonus for it so don't worry.”The elevator opened up t

HANDING OVER EVERYTHING
Alarick had woken up the next day with a bad mood and a text message on his phone. It wasn’t an unknown number this time. The name connected to the number clearly showed Grace. He sighed before taking up his phone and checking the message. I’LL MEET YOU AT THE COMPANY FOR THE SIGNING AT NOON. DON’T TRY ANYTHING FUNNY, REMEMBER THAT I STILL HAVE CHARLOTTE. I’LL SEE YOU SOON ALARICK. Alarick frowned. She wanted to do the signing at the company? Why? He had thought she would insist on meeting elsewhere for the signing and only come to the company after signing the documents to make the company hers officially. What was she going to gain by doing this instead? He couldn’t wrap his head around what Grace was planning but right now he didn’t have any time. He had to get to the company and place some things in order. It all had to be done before Grace arrived. He hadn’t expected her to do this so he would have to restructure some things that had already been set up. Alarick got up from his

SURPRISE CONFERENCE
Grace’s fingers dug into Alarick’s shoulder as she grinned at the crowd. Alarick composed himself but moved away from Grace successfully removing himself from her iron grip and gave the press a small smile. The crowd didn’t notice the tension between them so they kept on shouting out various questions. Each of them wanting to get the scoop on the King family that could catapult them to the next stage of their career.Alarick frowned. He knew that this was Grace’s plan to turn the tables and tell her own form of the story to the public. No doubt she was going to use this to her advantage but Alarick was also going to use this. He was going to beat her at her own game. He would show her that he too could stoop down to her level. A stocky male reporter stepped up and shouted a question above the rest.“We got some information that you were signing over your company today. Is that true Mr. King?”“Yes, it is.”No one was interested in knowing why she was alive because the details of her f

BRINGING HER BACK HOME
Alarick’s car pulled up to the location that was on the phone that Grace had handed over to him. It was an old decrepit building and by the looks of it no one could tell what it actually was unless they had been in it. Alarick got down from his car and eyed the building. It looked like there had been some homeless people living there at some time due to the sheer number of abandoned tents and mattresses that he saw laying outside on the asphalt. Alarick paid no mind to the rubbish that laid on the ground. He went in through the front door and instantly the musty smell of the room hit him. He wrinkled his nose and covered his mouth. “Ugh. What is that?”Alarick glanced over to the side of the door and saw several dead rats around what he could only assume to be food laced with rat poison. He gagged and turned away from it. With the amount of machinery that littered the room, Alarick could tell that the building was probably a warehouse for large construction machinery of some sort.
