Chapter seventy one
The hush remained even as Jefferson bowed to Chris and began to walk out of the room. "This is madness! Did you threaten him? What did you do to make him do this?" A man on the table yelled. "He didn't do anything, this is what's best for the family," Jefferson said. "What? How would you know what's best for the family, you're a coward who can't even stand a fight, do you have any idea what you have done? What have you lost? We have wasted our support." Another man spat angrily. "I don't remember asking for it." Jefferson retorted, "You had your selfish reasons for voting for me, don't lie about that." Hogan sneered at Chris and rose from his seat, "This is unacceptable! He cannot step down now!" He then turned to Jefferson, "How much did he pay you? What did you give to you?" He asked angrily. There was chaos in the gathering, most men rose and began to argue amongst themselves. All the while, Jefferson stared at with a smile, he knew how greedy the family was and discord was jus

Chapter seventy two
The air was cold, winter was fast approaching. The window was foggy and the thermostat was turned on full blast, still, it didn't make it any warmer, or perhaps, it was the shiver within him.Chris tossed on his bed and finally sat up, he'd been unable to get any sleep and after a full day's fatigue, he was nearly breaking down. Even after the meeting had gone sideways, many shameless men at the table who had openly voted against him tried to weasel their way back into his good graces by sending gifts and congratulatory texts. Chris deleted and rejected all they sent, he knew his foes and he wasn't going to smile with any of them. He jerked up when his phone rang just beside him, breaking the serenity of the morning and his train of thought. The caller ID was unknown and he almost rejected it, believing it would be another sycophant, but he decided to take it and warn whoever it was. "Hello, you better have something aside from a fake congratulatory message to tell me, if so, make

Chapter seventy three
Evans' expression was murderous, he stomped into the house and glared at Chris. "And I have warned you one time too many, Christian, there are people, there are things, there are laws that you don't fuck with." He stated firmly, his voice going even higher. "I didn't know how to tell you, I was only trying to help," Chris said in defense. "Really? Help? You call this mess to help? You can't keep playing the hero, it will bring you and everyone that stands with you down, and that everyone includes me!" Evans said, "Pa Pete has called to inform me of the summoning, how did you get yourself into a fix with the Orbit?" "Wait, what is this about?" Chris asked, he was almost sure that he'd either recognized Luciana or in his usual manner, the information had somehow gotten to him, but at the mention of the Orbit, he knew that Evans was mad for an entirely different reason. "You fucking called me and told me about the messages you have been receiving, what do you think this is about? T

Chapter seventy four
"The Jupiter? That's unbelievable." Chris replied, moving to the door. "I can't talk now, meet me at our rendezvous point ASAP," Jefferson said and hung up. Evans looked at him quizzically, he'd only heard the name but had no idea what they had said. "I won't bother asking who that was, or what it is you're getting yourself into, but it's all stupid and it will bring nothing but regret," Evans warned him yet again. "You have no idea what this is, Evans, you have no idea at all," Chris said, he'd had enough of people trying to stop him, he had to find answers. Every day he spent not fulfilling his purpose was like a nightmare to him, he had to get what he wanted, and he had to smoke out the Jupiter - whoever that was. "Don't play the hero, Chris, don't play the hero for this family that doesn't even appreciate you," Chris snorted, the family was never his focus but if he could free the Robinson family then so he did, but first, he wanted to avenge his father. "Forg

Chapter seventy five
Chris acted immediately when he heard the news from Potter. Jefferson too wanted to see how things would unfold so he got in the car and together they took the short drive to the office. In less than a minute, they walked into the lobby of the Robinson company. Everywhere was quiet as a graveyard, even the receptionist on the desk was shaken, her eyes bulged like she'd seen a ghost. Christian wondered if he was the only one who had never had a brush with the infamous Orbit. "Sir, don't go in there." The receptionist whispered slowly, looking at the double doors that led to the office hallway. Cowardice was not a trait Chris had so despite the warning, he went in, Potter and Jefferson stayed back in the lobby as he walked directly into the conference room. The Orbit, Chris could say that indeed the name was fitting. Seven men stood by the head of the conference table, forming an arch around the Jupiter's sacred seat. They were dressed in white suits, white ties, and white shoes. Ea

Chapter seventy six
The warm water cascaded down his back as he stood under the shower, his mind wandering. His thoughts went to the previous day and he glanced at the letter that now sat on his bedside table. The Orbit had decided for some strange reason to let him off with a warning and rather than take him to the Jupiter directly, they provided a message to him which must be read by Pete. Chris wanted so badly to test open the envelope and look at the content, to read it and know what his fate was, but he knew that would bring even more punishment, he needed answers, not punishments. Chris could tell that Jefferson's spirit had waned a little after he witnessed him being taken away. He could see the fear in the man's eyes as he got into the car and the relief in his eyes as he returned with an envelope. The staff all came out to look and many gasped in shock, never had anyone been taken by the Jupiter and returned in one piece, and certainly not on the same day. Potter had driven him home quietly

Chapter seventy seven
It has been 71 hours since the message was delivered. Pete was nowhere to be found and Chris hadn't slept a wink. Potter knew all too well what his absence from the board meant and so did everyone else. The law made it forbidden for the messenger to stay away from the table for so long, especially when there was an urgent letter to be read. But Pete was not careless, he was diligent and he certainly was well-informed. From what the housekeeper had said, Pete did not just leave his home, he was being called out and Chris was dying to find out who made that call. Tugging at his tie, Chris stifled a yawn and spun on the swivel chair. He had his laptop on and his phone was blinking. He'd called all the investigators he knew and none had answers for him yet, he was running out of time. There was a tap on his door and Chris jerked out of his seat, Evans walked in and he sighed in disappointment. "And what is this I hear about your grandfather missing?" He asked curiously. "I guess

Chapter seventy eight
Christian smirked at Hogan who sat there, his face a mask of fury, his jaw clenched and his eyes red. Once again, he'd been outsmarted. "I told you that seat wasn't yours, and never will be." He whispered across to him. Hogan sneered at him but could not say anything. "It's still within the day, am I right?" Pete asked the spokesman of the Orbit. The thin man nodded, obviously the day wasn't over. Evans smiled at Chris, giving him a thumbs up for how he'd managed to salvage the situation before Hogan was pronounced the new messenger. Pete looked a little worn out, the dark bags under his eyes told the story of insomnia and stress. Although still standing strong with his chin up, one could see that the old man was far from fit. "And why did you leave the board waiting for too long?" A member of the orbit asked. Chris sneered and rose, about to point out how insensitive that was, but Pete stopped him with a finger and decided he'd answer that. "I just received your letter, by th

Chapter seventy nine
Silence filled the room at the statement. Everyone knew that the Robinson company was exclusive, the Robinson dynasty was built on blood ties and no one who was not a member of the family through blood or marriage was allowed to ever be on the executive board or own shares. Evans was stunned at Christian's guts. He leaned forward and tried to speak with him but Christian ignored him. "You wouldn't dare." The Orbit said. "Watch me," Chris replied. The orbit glared at him but Chris wasn't intimidated, he was ready for the meeting and he wanted to change the order of the family for good. "There is a law that__" Pete began. "But that law is unwritten and it doesn't apply, aren't we always to work according to the constitution of the family?" He interrupted swiftly. "A law is a law!" The orbit snapped. Chris nodded at him sarcastically, "I do not know any law that ain't in the constitution." He stated firmly, "And as the council that you are, you should know better than going agains

Chapter eighty
Chris had not returned home since the meeting at the board. Potter had convinced him - as he usually did - not to sleep at his apartment and for once, he agreed with the old man. At the hotel, Chris made several calls, first to his investigator to identify what had led to Pete's kidnap but still, they had no information that could give him a lead. "I'm afraid it's a dead end, we could not find any fingerprints, no hair, nothing, it seems like they knew we were coming and they packed up real good." The investigator said. Chris nodded, he knew it was chasing the shadows but he needed something to pin on the Jupiter and take him down once and for all."How about the Orbit? Anything?" He asked. The investigator laughed, "It's impossible to chase the wind, we can't find anything on them, let it go." The man said, Chris hung up without another word. He'd quickly realized that not one member of the family would be on his side with his revenge mission, but he hadn't expected them to. He d
