A JINX
"I know" she replied, looking so broken as soon as they got inside the house. "I cannot excuse what he has done. But... but he is still my grandfather and I can't bear to see him suffer. You're making a very bad mistake!" She groaned, her voice trembling as she tried to find her words. Cage sighed, putting his hands on his waist. This just seemed to get a lot worse, because it had just escalated quickly. What what she even thinking? He thought, knowing that it was surely going to take a lot of time before getting her to come to terms with what had happened. He could feel his anger rising again, and he was forced to remind her what she needed to hear. "Chloe... how would you feel if the same was done to you? How would you feel if your parents were killed at such a young age. My childhood was destroyed by him, and you think I'm just going to let him be? Nobody deserves to go through what I went through as a kid. Put yourself in my shoes before you talk first. I don't like it when you'r

A HEARTFELT CONVERSATION
Her father let out an emphatic sigh when he heard that. He heard his heart miss a beat. From the look of things, it looked very much like they were still going to do a lot of things before getting her grandfather back, and if the worst went to the worst, he was going to have to apply violent means. But he was against the idea before it even sprang up to life. He knew how bad things could turn out later, and didn't even consider the option. The things that were going on right now had taught him a lot even though he wasn't involved in any of it. And even if he considered it, he knew how lucky Cage was and knew he would in one way or the other get out of it. Moreover, he didn't want to hurt his daughter. So he just let the thought slide, but not without gritting his teeth and waiting for a while before speaking into the phone. He knew now that Cage was a jinx, and it would take a whole damn lot before they could break him and make him do what they wanted. "That doesn't sound wonderful

A POIGNANT MEMORY
The next day dawned with a gentle warmth. When she woke up, the soft rays of the morning sun had had filtered through the curtains and Cage was sitting on the edge of the bed, doing something with his phone. She stirred before turning to the other side to stare at the white wall. Cage walked up and kissed her good morning, but she didn't say anything. Gently getting out of the bed, she sighed and told him what she had to. She sounded so nonchalant about it. "I need to go see my grandfather today, this morning." She informed him, before smoothly running her hand across her slightly bloated tummy when she felt the baby gently kick. Cage felt a sharp feeling across his heart when she said that. He was convinced that she was never going to recover from this no matter what. She was never going to hate the man. He sighed and put his phone in his pocket as his brow furrowed in concern. He wondered if she was doing all this just to get him angry or if she really wanted to go see him. "Are

A SAD HOMECOMING
Her grandfather's eyes softened with regret as he thought about it again. The memories stung him, remembering every single action he had taken. He couldn't just help it. "I know, my dear," he said. His voice was barely above a whisper as he replied. "but sometimes we must face the consequences because of our actions, no matter how painful they may be. I have anticipated this for a long time. I knew it when I figured out they didn't..." He stopped himself, nearly saying that he figured it out when they didn't kill Cage. She cocked her head to the side to look at his crestfallen face but he tried to hide it and shook his head as another sting of regret hit him. "Forget it Chloe. It's nothing you should hear." "What? Is there something you want to tell me?" She asked, clearly worried and equally curious. "No, just don't ask me. I would appreciate it if you didn't ask." He said to her, gritting his his in pain. She looked perplexed as she tried to figure out what he must have wanted t

REAL?
Cage's eyes flew open when he heard a groan right beside him, startlingly close. He jumped out of sleep immediately and looked beside him to see Chloe holding wincing in pain as her hands flew to her abdomen. His mind raced with a million questions as to what was going on at that moment. He thought about when she was expecting. It was still two months early. He prayed that this wasn't it before he wiped the bead of sweat that had already gathered in his forehead and attended to her immediately. "Are you okay?" He asked her, as the concern got into his features. Chloe shook her head as the grimace of pain crossed her face when her stomach hit her with another pain. She hissed again before turning over to her side. "I don't know, I'm having some abdominal pain." She said, her eyes tightened close. She couldn't open them. His heart leaped out of his throat and without another word, he immediately took care of the situation, fearing for the worst. He prayed that this shouldn't be bad.

SECRET RENDEZVOUS
As soon as Cage walked out of the hospital that morning, he went straight to a Café to unwind. He felt so tired, and he knew he needed a bolster of energy if he was going to survive the day. He had to be active and alert, especially now that Chloe needed his care and attention so much. He couldn't just wait for the remaining two months to be over and done with. He ordered his coffee and sat at an empty seat where he could see what was going on inside. The Cafe was nearly empty, safe for two couples who were talking to themselves in the distance. That was the moment he had to think about it again, to think about what he had suspected earlier if they both were really sick or if this was some kind of ploy to get him to give up on the conviction of her grandfather. He had no idea but he suspected that something was at play here. It couldn't just be a coincidence, he knew there was something to it. The waiter brought his Café and handed it to him with a smile. He paid for it immediately

SECRET NEGOTIATIONS
He felt his anger explode as he read it. He was stung by regret as he blamed himself for not tackling those boys. The whole thing was a setup! Perhaps he should have apprehended them with the help of the security officer but it was too late now. "Shit!" He hissed, clenching his fist ramming it at the wall in anger. But it seemed to have sounded so loud because when he turned, he saw Chloe stirring. He regretted his action immediately and walked back quietly and stood beside her, making sure that she went back to sleep peacefully. He heavily regretted what he had done both now and then. He regretted that he hadn't done anything to the boys and regretted he nearly woke her up from sleep. He took up his phone as soon as she went back to sleep and stared at the damning photo. His mind was racing with pure anger and frustration. But he chose to calm himself in the end, he took a deep breath and forced himself to push aside the unwanted intrusion so he could focus on Chloe instead. He had

DARK ROOM
Everyone in the darkened room could feel the weight of the mission that they were tasked with. For the past few days they had spent a lot of time meticulously planning to get things done once and for all. The only illumination in the room was coming from a single dimly lit lamp that was placed at a corner of the room, so that any detectors would be noticed but so far they hadn't seen any and their boss reasoned that this was the best time to start the meeting and be done with it. There were three figures huddled around the table, and the grim, Grace looks on their faces mirrored the situation of the room. They were in for business, and there was no form of light-hearted feeling in the air. They were in for business and nothing was going to stop them. They were about to risk their lives for what they believed in, for what they had been waiting for for many decades now. They weren't wrong. Their claim for revenge was just, and this was the time to get it done. Nobody gave them a prob

MISSION 1
The night was dark, and so was the intent of the men who were now creeping stealthily towards the person gates. They had successfully evaded the police checkpoint and this was their last chance to get this done. There was no turning back now. It was a do or die affair. Their movements were very well calculated as they continued to move, while making sure they turned around to see if they were being followed or if anybody had detected who they were and what they were here for. They had to be very careful, almost silent, if there was any chance they would pull this off. The last thing they wanted was to be seen because there were a lot of them. The job required a lot of people because there were a lot of officers to take down. And they weren't just any people. They were the best, they were handpicked and were handsomely compensated for the operation. Clad in the dark clothing and mask, they gradually started to approach the station gate. It was a large compound, so there were many othe

STRONG WOMAN
"Hey, have you thought about what we should name our baby?" He asked, running his hand across her belly. He was very happy that her cheerful mood hadn't just stopped the day before. She had carried into the new day and the light was slowly coming back to her face. She seemed so happy now and that was the exact thing he wanted. Aside from the fact that she was being taken care of at the moment, he knew damn well that her positive attitude and mood would also help to make her recover faster from her ailment. She chuckled when he said it. She had actually thought about it some time in the past but it was only a fleeting thought. Those were the times when they had a lot to face and therefore had a lot of things to think about. "Oh, I've been thinking about it." She said with another smile. "But I'm not sure yet. What about you?" He cocked his brow to the side and shook his head as he thought about it. "Hmmm, I haven't decided either. But I was thinking maybe something meaningful , you
