"Perfect timing!" Ruby exclaimed, eyeing the golden-brown mac and cheese. "Thanks for taking it out," she added, her gaze shifting to Damian's stiff posture. Damian forced a smile, gritting his teeth against the throbbing pain in his palm. "No problem," he replied, trying to sound casual despite his discomfort. Ruby's eyes narrowed, her suspicions piqued by Damian's sudden change in behaviour. Earlier, he had been relaxed and chatty, but now he stood frozen, his hands hidden behind his back. "Is something wrong?" she asked, her tone more dutiful than concerned. "No,I'm fine," Damian said quickly, forcing a smile that Ruby could easily see through.
