Chapter Twenty-One
Elijah's eyes widened when he saw the person standing in front of his car. He was angry with himself for not paying attention to the road, which could have resulted in an accident, and at the elderly woman for not looking at the road before walking in front of a moving vehicle. The woman stood to her side, her face clouded with fear, staring at the man who was yelling at her and pointing behind him. Elijah stepped out of the car cautiously, observing how the display had already captured people's attention. The man and the woman were so engrossed in whatever was going on with them that they hadn't even noticed that he had almost run her over. He hesitated at the car door for a moment, trying to hear what the young man yelling was saying, and managed to catch a few phrases. "Are you blind or something? Do you have any idea how expensive that jacket is?" "I'm sorry sir. It was a mistake." "A bloody mistake at that" The man shouted, lifting his hand to hit the woman. Elijah saw this a

"That's for me to know and for you to not worry yourself over. Just get in the car" Elijah replied. The woman complied and entered the car, watching Elijah close the door and walk past the front of the vehicle, heading to the driver's seat. Elijah opened the door, climbed in, wore his seat belt, and asked the woman, "What's your name?" "Diane." The woman answered. “Okay, I’m taking you somewhere to eat. Is that okay?” Elijah asked. After the woman nodded in response to his question, he returned his focus to the steering wheel, started the car, and drove away. Elijah had heard when the rude man complained of Diane spilling her food on him, so he changed his plans of going to the office and drove them to his restaurant instead. When they arrived at EM Restaurant, Elijah got out of the car and helped Diane out, and the both of them walked into the restaurant, with Elijah heading straight to his usual spot. He pulled out a chair and motioned for her to sit. As she did, Elijah beckoned

After attempting to swallow a few bites of his lunch, Elijah gave up and decided to head over to the office. He took out his wallet from his pocket, and placed a couple of bills on the table without counting them, then slipped his fingers into his wallet, and pulled out some more bills, sliding them over to Diane. He stood up from the chair and met Diane's face which carried a confused expression."I'm sorry Diane, but I have to leave right now. I paid for the food, and that's some extra change for you. Until we meet again." “Thank you so much for this,” Diane replied, reaching out to take his hand and holding it in hers. “I meant what I said earlier, I might not have the connections or anything at all that a wealthy man like you would need, but I promise you that whatever you need that is within my power to give, I will offer it to you.”Elijah smiled and nodded his head and Diane let go of his hand. He turned away and walked out of the restaurant thinking of what she had said. ‘May

Keep your eyes open, keep your ears pricked, and keep looking behind you, because one day……..I will find you. Elijah read the text a second time. "Is this a joke?""What's that?" Vicky asked. "It's nothing." Elijah shook his head and returned to what he intended to do when he took up his phone. He found Alan's number and dialed it, listening to it ring. Alan was corrupt and dirty, which was a well-known trait of his, but there was one thing he feared the most, and Elijah planned to take advantage of it. Elijah rarely played dirty, but he did so whenever he thought it was necessary, especially in instances when people tried to get in his way and to be honest, a part of him enjoyed it. Elijah was proud of his friend's integrity during times like these. Marcus had the information of a lot of people capable of destroying homes, businesses, and lives, yet he never used it.Finally, a click was heard on the other end, indicating that Alan had accepted his call."Elijah," his voice sounde

"What the hell?" "What are you saying?""I did not stutter. If there is something wrong with your hearing, then listen again. Empty your pockets." "And I will do no such thing. Are you calling me a thief?""Yes." Elijah laughed. "Is this a joke? Do you know who you are speaking to?" "Do I look like I give a rat shit? Am I supposed to respect you or something? You think too highly of yourself. Besides, don't you know the expression, "dress as you want to be addressed?" If you didn't want to come across as a low-life, then you shouldn't have worn a hoodie and joggers, looking like a teenage junkie.""This is ridiculous. I will not have you speak to me in that manner. First, you accuse me of stealing, and now you insult me for no good reason." Elijah turned away to walk out of the store, but the lady blocked his path again. Elijah, irritated, raised his hands in the air and yelled. "For the love of God!"He sighed and thought about the lady's remark. Maybe he should put an effort int

Chapter 26
Elijah sat in a recliner chair on his private jet, staring out the airplane window, wondering what Connecticut had in store for him. He would have been delighted to visit Lucas on any other day, but today was different. This was all about Clara. The woman who had diverted his father's attention from his other children. Nobody knew how or why, but she had transformed John into a shadow of himself, till the day he died. Elijah and Clara made each other uncomfortable and they never hid their dislike for one another. Immediately after John's death, Elijah lingered more around Lucas, but it was different for Cora. Lucas had repeatedly tried to keep Cora in Clara's care because he felt she needed a mother figure in her life, but Cora always stayed away, not like Clara had even tried to pull her close to herself either. Cora was different, and everyone could tell. She didn't dress like a goth or emo, but she was strangely different from the inside. Maybe it was because she was the one who w

Chapter Twenty-Seven
Clara Morris, the woman who had driven John to an early grave, stood at the door. Her slim figure and model-like shape contained the entryway, still having enough space for her twin sons, Alex and Austin who were younger than Cora, to stand tall on each side of her. Every waking day following their marriage, she had reminded John of how less he was as a man, just because he was at the lowest point in his life where he grieved his beloved late wife. She repeatedly blamed his drinking on the fateful night that brought them together. She hurled insults and curses at him at every turn driving John even deeper into bottles. Elijah watched her catwalk into the room, heading for the available sofa opposite Lucas. Then, one of her sons sat on an armrest, and the other sat in a chair next to her, his eye on the driver who was still standing behind Elijah's chair. The driver looked at Elijah, waiting for his order, and Elijah signaled for him to give the second bag to Clara. He walked over to

Bianca Gardini Harkins was written in bold font on Clara's invite list. ‘This has to be a coincidence, right?’ Elijah questioned himself, as his eyes searched for the other name, and there it was, waiting to be seen- Fred Harkins. ‘The fuck!’ These were the words that screamed in Elijah’s mind. Clara had invited Bianca and Fred to his home. He tried to remember if he had ever seen an article or anything at all that could have indicated that Clara, Bianca, and Fred knew each other, but his mind came up blank. It couldn’t have been business because they all ran different businesses in two different countries. Maybe it was just a coincidence, Elijah thought to himself as he breathed a sigh of relief and straightened his back. His hands reached to loosen his tie's grip on his neck and he lost interest to continue scrolling through Clara's list. Elijah decided to hand the iPad back to Alex, who was still standing near him, likely waiting for him to finish so he could take the device to Lu

Lucas mansion has a large hall where the charity event was hosted. The hall was decorated to perfection, the music- the volume and songs being played were amazing and soothing and every other thing had been done exactly as Clara wanted it. While people had been going up and about trying to arrange, Elijah went in and out of the hall and he secretly commended Clara. If there was one thing he admired about her, she could host events, which always ended up as the talk of the town for months, with others attempting to emulate her style for their next event. He couldn't understand why she was so focused on running his father's company when she was capable of running a profitable event planning company. Elijah hesitated at the handle of his room door. He had been at Lucas' house for three days and had tried every trick in his book to avoid attending the event, but none of them worked, and Cora had made matters worse, by pleading with him to stay, insisting that he would keep her sane amid

'Who was this man?' Elijah asked himself. Whatever connection this man could have with Fred Harkins set his mind on high alert. 'Is this some kind of setup?' Elijah kept asking himself while glancing around his surroundings, his eyes squinted, looking to see any suspicious movement. He was surrounded by two noises, one was coming from the hall and the other was coming from two women who were standing far away and were laughing hysterically at whatever they were talking about.Elijah returned his attention to the man whose face he could not make out clearly since he was standing away from the light, but Elijah could see his frame leaning against the nearby pillar."Fred Harkins huh?" Elijah asked, trying to sound natural."Yes. The Fred Harkins. I know he is going to be here tonight, and that's why I brought myself here." "Do you mind explaining what you mean?" "Oh, it's not that serious. I'm not on a secret mission or anything, so the wheels turning in your head can stop." Elijah f
