Partake in Violet and Lucius' bizarre love/hate relationship in "Love Addiction: Doting On My Love"!
Violet Wickham wakes up from a strange slumber and finds herself in the Imperial Palace, where a very handsome man, who goes by the name of Lucius, starts questioning her about things she's not capable of remembering. Suddenly, she hears him call her Agatha and realizes he's mistaking her for someone else. However, as she was attempting to explain that she was not the person he thought she was, he abruptly interjected, demanding to know the whereabouts of the "child."
Violet replied that she was not carrying a child, and Lucius assumed that she aborted him/her, so, in a fit of rage, he grabbed Violet and threw her on the floor. She kept insisting that she didn't know what he was talking about, but Lucius was too enraged to make sense of what she was uttering and leaned towards her.
Violet at first thought it was all a bad dream, but when she felt her body aching afterward, she realized it was all true and that Lucius did, indeed, assault her sexually. To make matters worse, she was literally a virgin before that disgraceful event. Next thing, she called the police, to no avail since Lucius turned out to be the most powerful man in town. Meanwhile, no matter how many times she kept explaining she was not Agatha, Lucius wouldn't believe her.
Despite his "despicable" actions, Violet gradually started developing feelings for him, at which point Lucius realized she was telling the truth the whole time. Would he let her remain with him?
Violet was from a regular family living a regular life. She had no beloved, nor had she ever been touched throughout her 22 years of life. One day, she woke up and found herself in a very strange situation wherein she was mistaken for Agatha River, Lucius Davis' wife, who had apparently cheated on him. This confusion was only made worse by the fact she was carrying Agatha's ID in her purse, How it ended up there is anyone's guess.
Lucius is the prestigious owner of Imperial Enterprises - his family's business - and a breathtakingly handsome young man, albeit famous for his rough temper and abusive demeanor. Due to his privileged status, he's considered practically untouchable by the authorities, and his word is deemed absolute by his lackeys and employees. After his wife's betrayal, he'd try to find solace in countless lovers, but none could satisfy him fully.
Violet's escape plan went south when she stepped into a swampy terrain and started to drown. That's when she realized she had run into a trap, which would explain why the guards were so lenient when they saw her attempting to flee. Just before she sank completely, Lucius approached her with his staff but only to watch her as she struggled to keep herself afloat.
However, he didn't want her to pass out, so, as soon as he noticed she was on the verge of collapse, he ordered the staff to pull her out. At this point, Violet was no longer afraid to speak her mind and insult Lucius to his face, even if that meant death. To the surprise of those present, though, he was not as fazed as they might have expected.
After returning from his most recent altercation, Violet demanded Lucius allow her to look at his injuries. When he tried to push her away, he accidentally hurt her arm, causing it to bleed somewhat. After a short while, he tried to examine her wound but, as he was pushing her collar aside, he unintentionally uncovered her breasts, causing her to blush in embarrassment.
Lucius himself felt a bit uncomfortable seeing Violet's face turning red, so he tried hard to focus on the wound and then asked (in an attempt to break the ice) what was so interesting about that flat chest of hers, a comment she took to heart. Notwithstanding, he could feel the heat travel across his body as he was covering her with the blanket and became restless. Her hand then caught the hem of his shirt as she kept demanding to let her see his injury.
Lucius swiftly turned to look at her and she seized the opportunity to pull his pajamas. She saw no wound, only "something" protruding below the abdomen, meaning that, notwithstanding his prior pejorative remark, he did feel sexually aroused.
"Love Addiction: Doting On My Love" presents us with an interesting paradox. Despite spawning out of an utter misunderstanding and, what's more, not having exactly a smooth start, for some reason, Lucius and Violet's relationship manages to flourish nonetheless. Somehow, in spite of Lucius' despicable demeanor towards her (particularly during the beginning stages), he still ends up redeeming himself in her eyes, signaling that people can fall in love amid the most adverse conditions and contexts.
The novel likewise attempts to show how blurred the line can get between love and self-love. We see this in Lucius, whose love for Violet (whom he mistakes for his own wife) could be construed as obsessive though, occasionally, we might notice a tinge of pride in his attitude towards her during various scenes. All the while, Violet resists falling in love with Lucius but fails miserably.
Nothing has been disclosed about Wendy's whereabouts, origin, or personal details. Notwithstanding, she has written her fair share of books, including the one under review ("Love Addiction: Doting On My Love"), "Second Chances Mates," "The Alpha's trophy," and "THE RUNAWAY LUNA." As readers may have guessed already, the author has a strong affinity towards werewolf tales, though she may sometimes diversify her bibliography.
The entire novel is written from the point of view of a third-party narrator who's alien to the characters and events in the story but who's somehow aware of all its circumstances and details. This enables a more comprehensive and all-encompassing frame of reference.
Wendy writes using very flavorful language that' is likewise easy to digest and follow through. She also doesn't spare any details during specific scenes, especially those filled with rip-roaring action and, to an extent, sexual tension.
"Love Addiction: Doting On My Love," by Wendy, is an enthralling novel with one of the most original premises and plotlines on the web, particularly as it concerns the entire identity crisis narrative. Also compelling is the arc of the main characters, especially that of Violet, whose passing doubts regarding her own past and her lingering feelings for Lucius add a lot of "oomph" to the plotline.
