The meeting wrapped up with a palpable tension hanging in the air. Knaver would be leaving later that evening, and Kendrick felt a mix of relief and apprehension. Peterson pondered the best way to send her off, finally deciding that Evelyn would be the best person to speak with Knaver.

“Let’s keep this light,” he said, breaking the lingering silence. “Evelyn has a way of smoothing over these situations.”

Kendrick nodded, grateful for his father’s insight. Methot, who had been leaning back in his chair with a bemused expression, stood to leave.

“Guess it’s time for me to hit the road,” he said, extending his hand to Kendrick. They shook firmly, a bond of friendship and camaraderie evident in their grip.

“Thanks for the support, man. I appreciate it,” Kendrick replied.

As Methot exited, Kendrick turned back to his father. “I’ll take care of things from here.”
