Chapter One

Jeremy hid a frown as his mother-in-law jerked dramatically, her face twisted in an ugly scowl.

"The water is too hot! Do you want to cook my feet?" She snapped at him, irritatedly.

Jeremy stood there, he had nothing to say, he'd tested the temperature of the water for her feet wash and it was perfect, he could not understand her fuss.

But he could not argue with her, it would have worsened it.

"Don't just stand there, get me another!" She angrily ordered him.

Jeremy looked at his wristwatch, it was 0:00, midnight hour.

He had kept his promise to the Jason family, he had played his part. Three years ago, Jeremy had promised that he would make the family boom, he had made a promise to take the Jason family from their bankrupt state to becoming one of the biggest in the city. It had seemed impossible then but it was exactly three years since he'd made that promise and true to his words, the Jason family had risen to the tier-2 family of the city.

His mother-in-law, Pam glared at him as he stood there, moving a muscle at her command. She was used to his docile nature and she ordered him to change the water again. Jeremy stood still, unresponsive and she angrily kicked the tub at him, Jeremy ducked and walked away.

Pam was even more furious as she ignored him, she rose to scold him. "How dare you walk out on me?" She yelled angrily, "You are an ungrateful thing! The Jason family has housed, clothed, and fed you for years now and all you pay back with is ingratitude!" She snapped and pointed her stubby fingers at him.

Pam shook her head in disgust at the sight of Jeremy, she glared at him and said, "You do not deserve anything you get from us. I will make sure my daughter divorces you, you don't deserve her."

Jeremy was unmoved by her threats, he simply stared at her calmly, seemingly undisturbed by her immature tantrum. Pam was reddening with anger, frustrated with his silence, she angrily grabbed a baseball bat to her left and swung it at him angrily, Jeremy ducked and Pam fell off the stairs.

Just as Pam yelled out in pain, a beautiful lady and a man walked into the house. The lady was Rebecca, Jeremy's wife and Pam's mother. At the sight of her mother, Rebecca rushed to her.

"After all we've done for you, you dare to hit me," Pam said sadly.

Jeremy's wife, Rebecca was the current CEO of the Jason group.  She was very beautiful but her face contorted in anger at the sight of her bruised mother, "What is the meaning of this, Jeremy?" She asked furiously.

Jeremy sneered at her, angry at the fact that she would hurriedly take her manipulative mother's words without a second thought. "We have a CCTV camera, don't we? How about you look at it to know if I truly hit your mother?"

Jeremy walked away from her and went to his room which was at the staircase of the house. For three years, he'd been treated as a servant in the Jason's house.

He lived in the staircase of the house and had no access to the rest of the massive guest rooms. It was time for him to take a stance. Jeremy opened a drawer and retrieved a stack of papers from a box then he rose and left the small room.

As he opened the door, Rebecca was right there with a frown on her face, her hands akimbo. "I have seen the footage, you made her fall." She stated accusingly and Jeremy frowned. "Jeremy, it is obvious that my mother is right and you have no respect for her or gratitude towards this family," Rebecca said with a deep frown.

"If you hadn't moved away from that baseball, she would not have fallen! What harm can a middle-aged woman possibly do to you? You should have just let her vent her anger." She nodded eagerly at her absurd suggestion and scowled at Jeremy.

"But instead you had to duck and let her fall, that's selfish and disrespectful, Jeremy."

Jeremy shook his head, it was obvious to him that Rebecca was just as unreasonable as her mother. He had nothing else to say to them both, it was time to call it quits. Rummaging through the stack in his hands, he picked out the document he had tucked away for some time, waiting for the right moment for it. He quietly passed it to Rebecca.

"I have something for you," he said, ignoring her complaints. His mind was made up, he couldn't stand her or Pam anymore.

"I have signed it already, I just need you to sign it." He said and handed her a pen.

Rebecca was curious, she took the paper with a frown and took a closer look at it, it was a divorce agreement.

Her brows furrowed and she looked up at Jeremy, "You want a divorce?" She asked, her tone disbelieving.
