*A Premonition hit me, much more like a nightmare in broad daytime. I’ll be locked in a cabin facing brutality against Satan. There’s nowhere to go because Satan himself is that place’s God.*
It’s a good start for the day as the sun shines through the classroom window. The voices in the hallway vanish as the classes started. The students of class 10-A focus on staring at the board as they listen to their teacher’s droning voice as the chalk she holds screeches with the board which has a mirror above it, but someone caught her attention. In the last row near the window lies a girl sleeping in her armchair. Nerves popped up her teacher’s head.
“Evergreen! Who says you can sleep in my class!?”
As she looks up under her long brown hair, she sees the whole class looking at her. With the dizziness in her mind, she stands down and bows with her blue watery eyes.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Rose.”
“What are you sorry at? Being the top student of this batch won’t excuse you for bad manners. You deserve respect when you respect others,” the teacher argued with a high pitch voice. Mrs. Rose is a teacher of Mathematics from the tenth grade and she’s infamous for her high-pitched voice. She starts writing series of large numbers on the board.
‘15122 1116 96011621’
“Interpret its meaning, and you’ll be able to sleep through my class. Just a tip. If it is properly regarded, it should not be difficult to decipher,” the teacher said with a calm tone unlike before. She sits down in her chair and clasps her hand while testing the top student but she didn’t expect another student to stand beside her.
“Mrs. Rose, I’m sorry for being rude, but can you please forgive Ruie just this once? She is doing her best to take part-time jobs for her family. That is why her time for sleep is too limited,” the girl with curly brown hair beside Ruie insisted.
“Sit down, Mishima. I don’t need such reasoning. If she doesn’t have the time to study, then she shouldn’t have enrolled then. Do what you want yourselves. Your parents are just blinding you with your future,” Mrs. Rose said with a smug. The girl looks down with clenched jaws and fists but she felt relaxed after she heard what Ruie said.
“She’s right, Aleiya. Please sit down.” Aleiya sits down with her mouth hanging open.
*Cupid’s Arithmetic, Dora Crackham’s puzzle where George gave him a piece of paper with its contents the same as what Mrs. Rose wrote on the board. What she said isn’t a tip, but the clue itself. Without her saying it, I would never remember the page of the book I’ve read it from. Still, there is no cryptology involved. She intentionally chose that puzzle to test my street smart, but these numbers are just flipped upside down. A fool can just look up in the mirror and see the answer. It’s so funny to think that she didn’t even change the exact puzzle stated in the book. Karma is waiting for me for disrespecting her even in my thoughts.* Ruie thought.
“Kiss me, dearly,” she said slowly. The room became saturated as the students thought it was a joke. Every corner is filled with laughter, shouting, squealing, and whooping that can be heard outside the room. Though they expected that Mrs. Rose will be angry at them, the students suddenly became quiet when they see her smile for the very first time. There are no signs of shame from her, but she became more proud of Ruie.
“Come to my office after class tomorrow. We’ll talk about your scholarship and participation in the National Quiz Bowl.”
After school, Ruie walks with her friend, Aleiya, because she said she’s treating her with a taste of congratulation. “You’re amazing back there! I’ll tell my dad that I have the most intelligent friend of our batch, and she’ll be participating in national contests. Isn’t that cool!?” Aleiya boasted with her glimmering eyes.
“I think that’s still not enough.”
“You’ll become a star of our school. Many people will notice how genius you were. In the future, you’ll just sign papers and then earn thousands! Why do you think it’s still not enough?”
“I still need to earn more, enough to sustain me and Drake to our new life.”
“Wait… Are you still planning on escaping your irresponsible mom? Aren’t you lucky you have a mom?”
“Aren’t you? You have a blood parent living with you, and your needs are already met. I’m just an orphan that wins bread but didn’t even taste a pinch of it.”
“Wait… I have a solution! Do you want to become my dad’s scholar? Your living and your needs will be the pay. Don’t worry about the papers and such. Just a word from my dad and it’s alright.”
“I… I think I’m putting you into much trouble if I accepted it.”
“No, no, no,” Aleiya said as she comes in front of her and clasps her hand which stops their walking. “Please… That’s also again for me. A friend will be living in the same building as me. There’s someone ready to listen to my stories non-stop. Since mom left us, there’s no one who does that for me.”
Aleiya appealed with her gleaming eyes to her. *Argumentum ad Misercordiam, appealing with pity, but I think it is also the best for us. I and my brother are already sick of my drunk mother’s abuse. I don’t want to make things difficult too.* “F… Fine, I’ll accept it.”
“Really!? Then you’ll really become my neighbor!?” Aleiya exclaimed.
“But just for one condition…” Ruie said as they continue to walk.
“If Drake’s what you mean, I already got him covered. I’ll ask for a room for you two beside mine. His tuition will never be your debt anymore.”
“I… I can’t thank you more than enough. I promise I’ll find a way to pay you back.”
“Don’t worry. In fact, this is a selfish request from me, so you’re already paying me back,” Aleiya replied. A notification came into her phone. Ruie sees the recipient’s name in the screen.
“Mel, huh? You girl should stop dating apps from now on.”
“Hey, that’s just a training camp!” Aleiya pouts as she reads the message.
“I wish I would meet him someday.”
“You would, I promise.”
“By the way, how’s your dad’s project now?” Ruie asked. Aleiya stops and points her fingers at a billboard attached to a building. Above that building’s rooftop is a crane holding a huge metal bar.
“Do you see that ad? That’s currently the progress of his project. Crevole, which will be released a week after, is a world I have dreamed of since my childhood. I always wish that I would become someone involved in the world of fantasy where I can use magic and fly around the world. My dad devoted that research for me, and now, it became so popular where people with the same wish as me noticed it. I’m thankful for my dad to be gifted with such a brain, unlike me. But maybe you’ll be noticed by him and become a part of his project.”
“You’re talking about the impossible. I’m sorry, but I feel comfortable with teaching people.”
“So you want to be a teacher, eh? It’s just okay. It’s not like I’m forcing you to,” Aleiya said. She stopped by as she saw a cat sitting in front of a pet shop. Aleiya thought that the cat is hungry, that’s why she picked up some cat food in her bag and fed her. “Ohhh! She seems to be liking it! Such a cutie cat.”
*That’s the typical Aleiya. She always brings cat and dog food with her pouched in plastic. Whenever she sees some stray pets roaming around the city, she always feeds them no matter what.* Ruie thought.
Aleiya enjoys feeding the cat not until she hears a non-stop loud horn from a roaring truck. The truck lost its brake and is accelerating straight the road exponentially. What alarmed Aleiya is the dog with no awareness crossing the road. Without thinking, Aleiya runs in the middle of the road to save the dog.
“ALEIYA!” Ruie shouted as she saw Aleiya pushing the dog out of the truck's way. Aleiya lately noticed the regret she’d done. Her pupils dilated as her legs trembled, immobilizing her with fear. All she can do is cover her ears and scream to death. When the time comes that her life will be taken away from her, an angel, a savior, pushed her out the way like what she did to the dog. As she fell to the ground, she opens her eyes and sees Ruie still in the air in the middle of the road.
*If the truck has an average of 55 to 85 mph maximum speed, then I can assume a 66mph speed for it basing on the mass it carries. That gives me its rate of 1.1 miles per second. If the average human can run for 13 mph, then 5 seconds is the maximum time required to push Aleiya away, but the distance didn’t match. There’s no time to compute for momentum. Anyways, I saved her. What’s next is God’s plan.* Ruie thought as she moved on her own.
“RUIE!!!” Aleiya shouts down her stomach. Half a second passed, the truck hit Ruie with maximum momentum. A car passed the intersection and bumps at the front of the truck where Ruie is brought. The collision knocks the car back and changes the truck’s course. Ruie, on the other hand, was sent flying straight up the air as she flips with the truck’s speed. She bounced five times on the ground, like a stone thrown at the river with force until her head hits a building’s wall. Massive blood trails followed her path.
“RUIE!!! RUIE!!! OH GOD!” Aleiya follows her but doing so filled her regrets. She cried down and kneels as she covers her mouth with her hands. She looks at the source of the blood trail and sees her legs near the collided car. Slowly, she looks at her waist with Ruie’s missing legs and thick drops of blood. The impact she had from the building made her unconscious, but her current condition tells her that there’s no way to save her. Aleiya holds Ruie’s left hand with her tears.
“Ruie!! Please, d… don’t die!! Y… you’re my only friend!!” Aleiya stuttered with her aching chest. Slowly, Ruie wakes up hissing with her clenching jaws. She’s staring directly at the sky as she sees Aleiya crying in front of her. In no time, she forced herself to sit up straight even if she feels drained from the bottom of her body. Before she lost blood and consciousness, Ruie put her whole force in releasing Aleiya’s hand.
Mixed emotions flow through Aleiya as her eyes widened seeing Ruie sit up straight, but she didn’t know she had a different thing to do. After hardly pulling her hand out Aleiya’s grip, Ruie pushed her away with the last of her. Aleiya flinched back as she stumbles down the ground. A loud clang of metal deafened her ears but what she saw completely blinded her hopes. A crane accidentally released a large metal bar from above and directly crushed Ruie’s sitting body, leaving only her head. This brought Aleiya a whole day blackout.
But the story is just beginning…
Ruie is supposed to be dead, but abstract voices echo her mind. She can’t even think, nor speak. Only she can do is listen. There’s only a word and a voice that she remembered familiar.
‘Dad!’
Slowly, she woke up in a dusty cabin with her hands tied behind her. The room has only one door in front of her, and a man blocks it. She wears clothing the same as a slave’s. The man has long ears, white hair, and a fantastical elf's dress. What scared Ruie isn’t the unknown, but his welcoming smile… a psychotic smile. With her memory of death, she asked out of confusion.
“Where am I?”
“Welcome to my world, darling.”
"Who are you?" *That's the first question that arose in my head. Is this what happens after you die? Or is this hell? Why is there an elf here?* "You need not know, darling. Everything here is under control," he said as he pulls out a knife and throws it at her right leg. She already felt the pain of dying, but this, for her, it feels the same. Her scream from agony reached the other side of the world. She tried to hold it but her tears came out of suffering. It took too long for her to calm down out of pain. "Oh, I think not. I doubled the pain limiter, but it's no big deal, right darling?" *I'm dead, right? Why do I feel pain? And what's he saying? Under control? Everything? Wait... Darling? Is he...* "Let me go, Satan!" Ruie mutters as she growls out her bound. She's being careful not to move the blade stuck in her leg. "I'm dead, right!? Why don't
There are only three days for the game to be released, and Ruie knows what threats will he give to those who bought the products, but with her battling God, she won't stand a chance. As she steps out of the cabin, a huge view of the land from faraway surprised her eyes. Beyond is a view of various fantastical towns, cities, and castles. From the peak of the mountain where she's at, numerous trees surround down her way. In no time, she runs down the trees even she has no idea where to go. All that comes to her mind is just surviving and running away from the struggle. Her mind is focused down the ground, seeking any traps that might come from the mysterious world. But one thing's certainly caught her attention. As she passes through her way, the small patch in the ground beside her glows. Her want to flee vanished temporarily, but she's still making a hard decision whether to do it or not. She scans the patch out of curiosity. *I smel
On the last day before the release, a huge disaster came to NTS. In the large room with huge monitors in front and a group of computer scientists working in rows, Dr. Mishima enters from the door. Most people are in a panic. Almost all their computers are red from an insider threat and they need to remove it before it is spread out in the system. "Sir, I'm sorry we—" an employee welcomed him and said. "Stop. What's happening now?" "A virus was found inside the system including the backdoor. We're doing our best to prevent it, but the retrieval of data is far from expected. We only have 20 minutes left." "We can reset the systems after 20 minutes, but that's plan B. Wait for my decision. We need to secure the test player first," Dr. Mishima said. "But that would kill your daughter's friend! We can't do backups of her in the remaining time." "That's
In the preservation room in the NTS building, Aleiya guards her friend's brain. She already fell asleep before Dr. Mishima came into the room, but she wakes up after hearing the sliding door. Her eyes enlightened to hear her dad's news."Dad! How was her? Can I see Ruie again tomorrow?""Darling, can I talk to you somewhere?""No! I'm here to guard Ruie. If not, she'll be lonely again.""Okay," he said, taking deep breaths, "I can't really say there's good news.""What do you mean, dad?" Her brows were drawn from being pulled up. She bits her lips out of worry, but the worst came to her."I'm so sorry, darling. She already gave up.""No... no way. She's still alive!" She cries as she hugs the advanced technological cylinder with Ruie's brain connected in wires and covered in glass and water. The cylinder already said she's dead as it lost
"How's Aleiya, Mel?" A man asked his friend while they walk out of the school grounds. They're in a group of three who likes video games. With their bags hanging on their backs, Mel seems worried about her."She can't go to school yet. She still can't get over her friend's death. I'm fetching her later in this last day," Mel said."It must be hard for her seeing her friend in that situation, you know, brutal death," another friend said. "I wish for the better of your girlfriend bro.""Me too. By the way, don't be late for the release later. We'll grind early and be the top as fast as possible," his friend said."Is that speedrun?" Mel asked humorously as they started laughing. "If I still have the energy, I'll dive through my gear later and catch up with you."They came to the intersection where they split up. Mel's house is in a different direction from the two. The two go strai
"Guys... I maxed Luck," Argos said in an embarrassed tone and a frown face. The laughter from his two friends keeps getting worst... for him. His embarrassment fade with his eyes knitting to them. He may not notice, but his health falls in half. He soon realized after he felt a bump in his chest.*I thought pain's gone here. Even if it's slight? I'm getting scared to play more now.* Argos thought without even thanking the pain limiter which limits the pain input to one's brain. But it's not his fault; he doesn't know it anyways."Are you going meta Mel... I mean Argos?" Zeus jokingly said with his laughing eyes nearly closed. "Hey, Walter. Do you see our friend here? He must have drowned in Gatcha games.""Hahaha yeah! He must be wanting a casino so bad. Yo, Argos, no offense, just friends talk. Alright?" Walter said."You're always like that. Did I take any offense? By the way, do you felt
It went black and the next thing that happens is he woke up his bed. His phone is beside him. As he opens it, a notification surprised him. It was Aleiya's message so he suddenly opens it, but he didn't expect what was written."I'm sorry, Mel, but I think we need to part ways from now on."Tomorrow passed and classes are still ongoing, but the morning surprised his two friends because Mel isn't present in his class. Their first subject teacher already entered their classroom but they're still hoping that Mel will come as late in the class. Thirty minutes passed and Mel has shown no presence. After the first subject, Walter came to his friend's seat and asks what's going on. Worry can't leave their faces as there must be some serious problem going on. Mel won't come to class if it is."Lenard, why won't we visit Mel?""You just want to see Zera, don't you?""N... No!"&nbs
"Hello, players. I can't thank you enough for reaching the milestone of our project. We're so grateful that each one of you helped us in achieving the perfect world."We would install an update first that will apply the remaining fixtures in the system. It's more convenient for the players since all of us don't speak Latin, is it? More of the game updates will come tomorrow."And tomorrow also, we will be conducting a once-in-a-lifetime event that will take place in the spawn. We've reached a million players, and with that, the Crevole community is spreading wide quickly. What you will get? It's definitely a secret, but I swear if you don't attend this, you'll regret it up to the bottom of your hearts."I'll be expecting your participation in the event. Thank you for listening," Dr. Mi
Argos and his platoon already set up for their journey to the Aumoxozar Kingdom and its nearby towns. Even if would take too long for them to accomplish their task, which is finding a veteran doctor with the exchange of the Golden Rin. With the luxuries and comfort that Argos provided them, Alex and Zak didn’t hesitate to join his squad. They considered it as a mode of payment for his deeds.“Head check! I already have Zak and Alex. How is everybody doing?” Argos asked as they gathered near the hill where Loic’s cave is located.“Holessa and I, ready to go,” Loic as he puts his hand on Holessa’s right shoulder.“Argos!” Suddenly, a tiny girl’s voice caught Argos’s attention.“Sevy! Are you fine now… why are you with this guy? He should be bound back there,” Argos asked as he narrows his eyes towards Ranulph. “Are you doing something malicious? If you d
Still the same night where Holessa caught Walter talking to one of the affiliates of the Octagon, Iris Borguignon, which is really a mysterious adventurer, Saga, Walter and Saga tries to simplify their understanding of their world. Even if it is only a short time left, Walter did his best to create an explanation that will not trigger the World’s forbidden banner.“So you came in here as heroes? What are you really planning to do?” Holessa asked but Walter replied with an unusual and childish answer.“I already devoted myself to restoring this world.”“You are really into this, kid Walter,” Saga commented and chuckles.“I am taking a hard time right now because of a sudden decision that you did. Damn you Saga,” Walter complained as he gives Saga furrowed eyebrows.“It is fine if you are already tired of explaining. There is still time. Walter is always with me anyway so he can answer my qu
“To put it simply, there is a man who used high-class alchemy to preserve lifeforms in an orb. He longs to put human souls in some container right after they died. I know that is impossible, but that man did whatever he can in which he succeeded.“The samples of orbs that he had reached a huge space that it nearly overloads, and he needs to solve it as fast as possible else he will be classified as a murderer. After he succeeded with a faulty orb, he created a world wherein those orbs will mimic a human body so that they could interact with each other even after they died. As there is a person that dies every day, their souls are gathered by this man, giving them a new and interactive home. That world is the world where we are stepping right now, Cordale,” Walter explained to Holessa the situation of the world as simple as he can without triggering any violent triggers from the Mishima system.“What are you getting into?” Holessa asked as
The forest was vast, gloomy, and blooming. Its canopy was claimed by juniper, willow, and magnolia, and occasional openings in their crowns allowed plenty of light through for a hodgepodge of sprouts to make use of the rich grounds below.Silent branches embraced the occasional tree, and a potpourri of flowers, which were common to this area only, added some bright touches to the otherwise amber scenery.A disharmony of wild noises, most belonged to critters, resonated through the air, and were in harmony with the rustling of the leaves and branches of the treetops in the wind.“Starting tomorrow, Holessa, together with Loic, will set out to find her sister. You should follow her. Maybe that can be your chance to clarify things out,” Walter said to Iris as he gives her a new set of commands.“Who’s following who…” A voice said behind Walter, which give Walter goosebumps. As he turns back, he sees the one he wished not to h
The night came when the full moon shines throughout the forest while everyone is already asleep. Walter checks everything around him so that he can make sure that no one is following him. Without further ado, he left the site without any trace of his disappearance. He went not so far in the northern part of the Haslita plains and waited at a huge boulder of rock from the forest. While he sits in the stone boulder, he hears some whooshes of the bush behind him.“If you are appearing, can you please give me a sign that is more recognizable to humans,” Walter complained with crossed arms.“Are you sure no one followed you?” Iris said after appearing behind Walter but is looking at her left.Walter turns back and asks her the reason for a sudden appearance. “I’m better careful than never. What is the reason you are here? Did you miss me?”“Eat your balls, Coulomb. I’m here to check up for the Golden Rin. I
Holessa checks for Sevy at her tent but unexpectedly, she isn’t there. Meanwhile, at the cave where Ranulph is caged, Sevy spends her time thinking on the side of the wall of the cave. It might be dark, but because Ranulph is already two days staying in the dark, even with the small lighting from Loic’s room, he can see her lost hope in life.“You really are a strong one, kid. Do you want to be here too? I wouldn’t recommend copying me, else they might do the same to you,” Ranulph said but he didn’t get a reply from her. He thinks of a way so that he can be close to her but he didn’t expect to be suppressed by her. “Do you want me to tell you a bedtime story?”“Just shut up, you ridiculous chief!” Sevy shouted with rage against him.“Woah. I get surpassed by a kid! Sorry for all of that…” Ranulph apologized bowing his head towards her. But because Ranulph is a fool, he did not g
Just later that afternoon, Loic brought Argos to their own tent. After Argos opens the tent doors, he sees everyone gathering beside Zeus. He just realized that they started the party without him, the initiator.“Hi, guys. Welcome to my blog,” Argos said.“Did Loic slap you? You seem fine by now as I can see,” Holessa said.“More like a slap of reality,” Argos replied and adds. “Is that true, Holessa!? That powerful witch is your sister!? I already had a hunch since I have met her.”“Celestia, she is one of the top rankers in the Oak Spirit ever since the incident five years ago happened. The coven prevents her from casting some common spells because she finds them destructive as she can’t control them well. It once threatened the village by making it rain with toxic acid, causing minor casualties,” Holessa explained.“Acid rain? I think it is already normal,” Alex commen
In the afternoon, Argos sits on the cliff in front of Loic’s cave as he watches the art and wonders that the sunset makes. He is completely blanked out together with the quietness that he is gasping. His foot swings while feeling the swing of the air that collides with him. But the calmness of what is around him isn’t synchronizing with what he has in mind. Meanwhile, Loic came up of his cave and sees Argos spending his time alone. He sits beside him so that he could ask what is wrong.“Do you want some drinks for chilling?” Loic suggested.“Why are you here? You distracted my way of thinking,” Argos complained with a cold tone.“Are you really thinking, or you are just regretting your past actions? Either way, it won’t help you calm down. Get some refresher. I can assure you that everything here is fine. The villagers are all safe, and the race against time is already finished,” Loic said.“But
The villagers easily escaped with the help of Argos and his party, but the problem is where they will reside. In order to stop enemies from tracking their path, they detoured a long route but their destination isn’t the campsite, but towards the Haslita woods. Holessa and Loic fully welcome the villagers for a temporary stay, but the mood they brought back isn’t a touch of victory but internal defeat.Just after going to a new home with all of the people downed, Loic crafted a cross using wood and buried it on the ground to pay respects to Old Marza and her heroism. With her veteran medic title, all of the villagers attended a short ceremony to thank him. The most affected individual are both Sevy and Argos because they saw clearly with their eyes what happened, and the regret is still inside their hearts. Two days after…The villager already set up a tent for each of the families affected. They placed their tents the same way as what it was l
