FIVE

It was dawn already, Isaac stared at his unconscious mother with a mixed feeling of guilt and pity.

The guilt for not being able to be the best son to her, he couldn't even raised her medical bills on his own —the thought of it made him felt like he isn't enough for her.

And the look of pity he gave her was obvious, seeing his mother in an unconscious state, he need no one to tell him that she isn't doing well.

She could not even stay conscious on her own except if she is properly treated and her only son couldn't render the only help he could by paying her bills?

His mother has always been there for him and giving him the proper attention he deserved but then she was not able to make him get the proper education level he supposed too.

Isaac had dropped out of college during the days of his second year in college. Since he could not finish and graduate, he own no certificate to attain him a good and sustainable job.

As a grown up, he only get to work on rare days, could not even generate himself a payable menial jobs and mostly, he's still been fed by his mother.

He need to raise the money, the doctor had given him three days to generate the money.

He thought of any way to find the money before the deadline, no matter how much he think about a way out, his thought only lead him to Amy.

He accepted the fact that she had left him and had moved on with the rich guy, even if it was too hard to digest, he had no choice to it. He had lost her!

‘Would she be able to help me out?’ He asked himself a multiple times, finding no good answer to his self question.

He was reluctant about the thought of going to her but since she is now together with a rich guy, she might just considered their past relationship together and help him —and coupled with the fact that he had help her too a numerous times.

He sighed as he run his finger through his hair, he can only try this and find out how it turns out for him.

He sucked in his breathe as he stared around the house like it was his first time visiting. It was the same house where he was humiliated the previous day, he had thought he would never step his foot in ever again —but here he is, standing and observing like a lost kid.

Things did changed in the last couple of days  he last visit, there was a new car parking inside the compound and a strange looking guy was standing at the main entrance to the house.

His appearance was huge and his stare was fierce like his eyes were capable of spitting fireballs, cold chills run down Isaac's spine but he was able to swallow his fear —though he had a hard time in trying.

He was putting on a black tuxedo, Isaac was aware of how much expensive such suit cost. He assumed the guy must be related to Evans or better still, his company —maybe his guard?

In one word, that simply means Evans was inside with Amy. The thought of Evans and Amy being together tore his heart into a million piece.

Isaac thought he had finally accepted the fact that he had lost Amy to Evans but he was wrong, he still yearn and long for her —his jealousy kicking in. But there was little or nothing he could do about it, she had told him he did not worth her.

Summoning his inner courage, he strutted towards the strange looking guy with a blank expression —Isaac doesn't want to appear too pathetic, that wouldn't be nice of him, yeah.

"Excuse me, Mr." Isaac uttered, trying to gain the guy's attention.

The strange huge guy furrowed his brows deeply at Isaac, with an unpleasant look on him. "Yes...?" His bass voice was hoarse and no way near friendly.

"I assume you are new here and don't know me, hehe..." Isaac couldn't believe his own voice, it was filled with nervousness and he was stuttering too.

"So, what if I don't...?" The huge guy scoffs irritatedly, scowling at him. "Who are you to think you can just walk in here and spill trash before me?"

Isaac had wanted to tell him he is Amy's fiancé but he quickly swallowed back his words. She had denied him the title of being her fiancé, he should accept the fact he really is not.

"Uh —I'm here to see the house occupant." He uttered, earning a questioning look from the huge guy before him. "I mean, Amy. I'm here to see Amy."

"Amy, you say?" A voice chipped in before the huge guy got the chance to reply him. Isaac recognized that voice, Amy's mother, he was sure of it.

Isaac heart skipped a thousand times a second, he never expect to meet any of Amy's relation, not even her mother —he did not prepare for it or maybe he thought he wouldn't meet any of them.

Smiling nervously, he turned to the woman standing by the door post. She wasn't reciprocating the smile, rather, she was giving him a scornful stare.

"Mrs..."

Amy's mother cut him off abruptly, giving him no chance to finish his words. "Oh, who do we have here, eh?" She uttered wearing a mocked smile on her face. "The poverty driven guy, is it not?"

The words hit Isaac on his guts, shredding his heart in a million pieces but couldn't say a word in reply.

"Why are you here again?" Amy's mother questioned him, demandingly. "Oh, I get it now! To rub your poverty on my daughter's new man?"

‘When would this woman not stop with her hurtful words?’ He muttered under his breathe, his heart aching heavily due to her choice of words. He wonder if she would ever stop picking on him, he guess not!

"I'm only here to see Amy, I have nothing else on my mind." He stated simply, not letting his emotion get the better of him.

"Why did you want to see her?" She requested in a blunt tone. "Didn't she warned you never to come near her ever again, didn't Evans too?"

"I know she did, I just want to see her for a moment." He said, slowly. "I'm not here for any harm, trust me."

Amy's mother snickered, her laugh was stifled. "Trust you, isn't it?" She laughed yet again. "Why would I ever trust a man like you, who couldn't save a twenty thousand dollars in a month?"

"It wasn't my fault, I tried my best to get it but I think it wasn't just enough." Isaac countered, he was in no mood to argue words with any one. He just want to see Amy and relay his message for help to her.

"Look here, broke guy. There shouldn't be any cause for you to come here ever again, did you get?" She told him, her voice was emotionless and cold. "I can't deal with seeing your poverty stricken face around my home and I don't think my daughter can handle it either."

"Ah —I know, I get your message clearly." He replied nonchalantly, with a lazy expression on his face. "Just allow me see her this once and I'll be gone for good."

"Why are you so adamant, boy?" She hissed in disgust, visibly angry by his presence before her. "Aside being living in abject poverty all your whole miserable life, did you have ear problems too?"

Isaac knew there was nothing wrong with his request, why is this woman taking it too far by using those heart wrenching words on him? Why did she always find pleasure in reminding him of how poor he is?

Did he ever wronged her with out him knowing about it? Is it that bad that she can't even forget about it? As far as he is concerned, he has never wronged her and not even her alone, he is not the type that gets on people's toes.

Then where could he have gone wrong? Those were his questioning thoughts but as always, he had no answer for them.

"I told you, ma'am; I only want to see Amy, is that too much to ask?" Isaac requested, controlling himself from hissing. "Why can't you just let me see her this once?"

"Oh, I see some one has grown an extra wing, is it not?" Amy's mother clapped her hand dramatically, anger written all over her face. "Why are you this..."

"Leave him to me, ma'am, I'll do this my way —the hard way." Evans suddenly butted in, interrupting her abruptly. None of them had noticed his presence and was taken by surprised when he chipped in.

"Fine, I'll leave him to you. I hope you teach him an unforgettable lesson that he will forever remember in his miserable life." With that, she left them and went back inside.

"I see you are adamant, eh?" Evan asked him, smirking dangerously at him.

Isaac did not like his kind of look, not at all. "Look, rich guy —I have no business with you and I know you not from any where." He told Evans. "I'm only here to see Amy, I see no reason for you to butt in my affair with her."

"Your affair...?" He hissed in total disgust. "You are pestering my girl even after she had warned you not to and you asked me to stay away from it?"

"Oh, come on." Isaac scoffs at his words. "You and I know she only loved you for your money, Amy would never had you be her guy if you have nothing like me."

"Look like some one is proud for being poor, eh?" Evan asked with a stifled laughter which vanished in the next few seconds, he turned towards the huge guy. "El, take care of this guy."

The huge guy, whose name turns out to be El, nodded curtly at Evan's words, getting his message. "Sure thing, boss." He replied in his usual bass voice.

El, snapping his fingers, three other guys appeared from no where and hovered around Isaac. His sixth sense kicked in, fear gripping him instantly, he did not noticed these three guts except El.

No one need to tell him how much trouble he got himself entangled in, how did things get to this? Is this a price to pay for being poor or for badly wanting to save his mother?

"Next time, boy, I hope this will teach you to stay away from my woman." Evan uttered airily with a dangerous smile curling up his lips.

Isaac hated that smile and wished he can just punched that smile off his face, it disgusted him to his bone marrow —but there was nothing he could do about it.

Before Isaac could registered what was going on, he felt pain in stomach. He realized this is a world of the rich picking on the less privilege and he happens to be a victim.

Things would bore well for him, he told himself as another pain hit his guts...
