The pain was excruciating and he felt his head was heavy. Isaac forced himself to snap his eyes open but they weren't bulging, they felt like they aren't his.
He let out a deep throaty grunt as he finally snap them opened, his eye lid itching. His body felt limb and as good as dead as he tried to sit up.
"Be careful, Mr. Isaac, I'm sure you don't want to add more to your already existing pain." The voice came up all of a sudden, stopping him on his track.
Isaac stared at the source of the voice. Oh, good, it's the doctor! He was wearing his familiar smile, staring directly at him.
He groaned, slowly. "Okay, how did I get here?" It sounded more like a rhetorical question but he badly needed an answer to it and his voice doesn't sound like it used to. It came out like he was grunting.
"That doesn't matter now, Mr. Isaac, you should focus more on your pains." The doctor told him. "It seems like the injection we gave you has worn off. Where do you feel those pains aside from your body aching?"
Is there a particular place? Of course not, his whole body feel like it's on fire! His head was banging heavily like it's been hammered, his eyes were too heavy for him to keep them open my longer and his body felt like they weren't his!
"I can't pin point a particular place, doctor. Every part of me aches like hell." Isaac muttered out in a pain filled groan, slowly shutting his eyelids against one another. "—and my eyes, I can't keep them open for long."
"I understand you better, I'll prescribed you a drug to help reduce those pains." The doctor uttered, scribbling some thing on his pad. "They are efficient and works faster, they would help you get better in no time."
Isaac nodded at the doctor's words curtly, even when he's not sure of the reason behind his nod.
"I'll leave you to get some rest for now." The doctor announced, passing the pad to the nurse beside him. "One of the nurses will bring you the prescribed drugs."
"Okay. Thanks, doctor." Isaac mumbled but audible enough to the doctor's hearing.
"No need for that, Mr. Isaac." He replied plainly. The next seconds, Isaac heard footsteps and the creaking of the door before he soft bang. He assumed the doctor and the nurses had left him.
He sighed as he slowly opened his eyes, feeding his eyes with his new environment. He was right, he's the only one remaining.
He managed to open his eyes and finding himself laying on a hospital bed with excruciating pains all over his body. Great, just great!
‘How did things turn this worst?’ He asked himself, trying to recall his lost memories. He could only hope this is a kind of dream —a nightmare to be precise and he badly wish he would wake up from it!
But every thing seems too lucid to be a dream. The pains, the doctor and his new environment —this is surely not a dream nor is it a nightmare.
And then soon enough and just as expected, his memories came rushing in and he was able to recollect every thing clearly.
He had pay Amy a visit to ask for her help but instead, he met his waterloo. Her mother, who wouldn't stop picking on him and her new found lover, who thought every thing on earth was under his control —maybe it was!
He is rich, isn't he? That's the rich ones thinking, the earth and every thing in is to be their... Urgh! They all think alike, maybe that's why they are rich though!
Isaac recalled how Evans had ordered his guards to take care of him and they did, by beating him in to a pulp.
That moment was never of good memory and shouldn't be recalled, realizing he must have fall unconscious when he was being beaten. Meeting himself at the hospital was a mystery to him.
Was this all of Evans' doing? Or maybe Amy had met him in a pitiable state and decided to bring him to the hospital?
Many thoughts ran through his mind, thoughts which needed an answers but got none. His mind was only getting fuzzy, the more he thinks, the more confused he is.
He decided to put the thoughts aside for a moment, as he was forced to realize he was in the same hospital as his mother.
‘Is that how worst every thing had become under forty eight hours?’ His own thinking breaks his heart more. ‘...is it?’
From getting rejected and thrown out by some one he had thought loved him to his mother laying helplessly and almost lifeless on the hospital bed and now he was being beaten into a pulp?
He had thought he had seen the worse that would ever happen to him the previous day but being beaten like a used rag was worst! Much more than any thing he has ever experience!
His heart ache yet again and it felt like it might explode soon from his chest due to how much it had ached since the previous day.
Isaac stared in to the empty space, his thought was fuzzy and he could not think clearly any more but there was only a word ringing in his memory, ‘loser’!
His subconscious was right!
Isaac was forced to realize he was nothing but a loser. At his age, he is yet to achieve any thing —not even a sustainable job to hold himself with.
The only lady he thought he had managed to capture her heart just as she captured his, was being snatched away from him and he could do nothing about it.
What's more evidence does he need since every thing happening to him could only happen to a loser and he is one! The thought that he couldn't stand up yet sickened his heart and in no sooner, tears were dripping down his cheeks.
“..I told you before, he is no one important...”
“...You don't worth me and you know this, stop forcing yourself on me...”
“...You are just a jobless wretch, who would never live up to any good...”
“...You are planning on rubbing your poverty on my daughter's new man?...”
His thoughts were jumbled as different flashes of hurtful words said to him replayed in his mind, they were as clear to him as crystal.
“There is no better word to describe you, Isaac —” his subconscious hit him yet again. “—admit it, man, you are just a loser, who couldn't get things done properly...”
"You are right." He find himself mumbling, even though his voice wasn't audible enough for any one near him to hear him properly.
"I am nothing but a loser..."
Isaac's pain had reduced drastically and he can now stand and do other things on his own. The pain that left him was only physical pain and not the one that keep eating deep in his heart. That for sure, he knows isn't curable and with time, Isaac told himself he will learn to adapt to it soon —after all, his whole life lies in nothing else but pain with out any good memory to survive on.Isaac badly wanted to see his mother but was too ashamed too, not when he had failed her. To him, he would be so shameless to show his face before her, even though she's currently lying unconscious. He cajoled himself that she might not want him around, no parent is ever proud of a loser as child, most especially a male child. He told himself his mother might be feeling the same way too.Isaac sighed heavily as his stomach churned in hungry, growling loudly. He hasn't even had a proper meal since the past two days or more and his throat was dried too.He left the hospital, hoping to find an eatery nea
From afar, a car occupant watched as a body was carelessly laid down on the floor, only few feet aware from the busy road with surprised expression on the car occupant's face.Since it was at the accurate speed, it was easier for the car to slow down as the occupant's attention was caught by the body laying helplessly few feet away from the road side. There body was having several red marks and few bruises all over it, any one could tell how much physical abuse the person must have gone through. The car's occupant has no problem with the bruises and mark —but the fact that it was dumped carelessly angered her more than any thing. She had wanted to continue with her driving but could not, not knowing why the almost lifeless body caught her attention so much.Reluctantly, she parked her car by the road just few feet away from the body, hopping down from her car. As she near the body, her eyes sparkled in recognition."No way..." She muttered, staring at the direction where the two guy,
The huge firm had barely changed, it was just as he had left it few years before. Isaac hold the urge to look around and feed his eyes with the marvelling sight of the firm, he does not want to appear too pathetic."I'm here for the CEO..." Isaac uttered in the manly voice he managed to put up to the lady he guessed to be the receptionist, his weight barely rested on the counter. "She is supposed to resume work half an hour ago."The receptionist nodded positively in confirmation, staring oddly at him and in the next few seconds just before Isaac could utter yet another word."I guess you are Mr. Isaac then?" She asked but it sounded more like a plain sentence to a question."Yes, I am. I'm supposed to be in her office in the next five minutes." Issac replied her. "Let me lead you to her office then." The receptionist offered politely. "She's been expecting your arrival. This way, Mr. Isaac." "You don't have to worry yourself that much, Ms." Issac uttered as he politely turned down
"Well, in a nutshell, all I am saying is that you should get married to me..." She said, her voice sounding like it's a usual sentence to her. To Issac, he is really hearing things. He had convinced himself that his ears has been hearing things lately. From being rejected by Amy and her parents and now this? How could Evelyn of all people sprouts these out? Could this be that his ear had stop functioning. If that is the case, then the doctor did not need to operate on his mother alone, he also need to be operated too. "What is your reply to my handsome offer, Zik? Remember you have only two days left to find the money you are requested of." Evelyn Anderson said, wearing the same smirk Isaac hated to see on her face. It appears like the smile was mocking him. Issac stare at her like she was a stranger to him, his brows creased and line were visible on his forehead. What sort of reply is he going to give lady sitting before him? Of all men in the States, she did not seems to find
It better not be what he is thinking because he dreaded the thought of it, had he made a mistake by not accepting Evelyn's offer as soon as he can...?‘No, Zik. Stop thinking negatively...’ his subconscious hit him"What do you mean, doctor?" Issac asked. "Why have you asked me not to bring the money anymore?""Because an anonymous person had just cleared her bills." The doctor replied. "The operation will commence in the next one hour and you need to be at the hospital before that time so as you to sign a document as the only relative of her we know."Issac was confused, who on earth might have decided to ease him the stress by paying his mother's bills? He or she must have been generous to do so, Issac know he owes such a big thanks to whosoever it may be. But now, he really needs to go to the hospital first.*********"Its good you are here, Mr Issac." The doctor said immediately he saw Issac approaching his office. "You came just at the right time.""I have to, doctor..." Issac re
Issac barge into the company like someone being chased by a wild cat, his face crumpled down in a deep frown as lines settled on his forehead. The receptionist was taken by surprised, he was here few hours ago looking calm and gentle but now he look like an angry cat. How come he changed all of a sudden? Is everything okay with him? The receptionist is not sure if every thing is okay with him or not but unless she ask him. She see nothing bad if she asks, the last time she checked, he was her boss’ guest. "Mr Issac, I think." The receptionist smiled warmly at him trying to recollect his name clearly. "What my name is, does not matter to you, okay?" Issac snapped at her angrily. "I need to see your boss this very moment. Tell me if she's still here!" "Is everything okay with you?" The receptionist asked in a concerned tone. "You are here few hours ago and you were not behaving this way. Is there some thing wrong, Mr. Isaac?" "How does my behavior or mood affects your salary?" Is
Issac seems confused and did not know what to do, he could barely think straight at the moment, his mind was fuzzy and clouded with thoughts. He keep pacing around the hospital's passage way like a drenched cat and any one who take a look at him would realize that he is worried about some thing, his facial expression says it all. He did not know what to do since Evelyn had threatened him about the money, the kind of threat that's not empty. She saved his mother and he is grateful but Issac had not expect this in return for what she had done or maybe he does but decided not to look much in to it.‘Did the doctor not say she is anonymous and want nothing in return from me?’ He mumbled to himself, getting more confused. To think that the doctor might know about this from the start, reason why he was shutting him out and imposed him on picking the call. Now, it all make sense but then again... "How did she expect me to get married to her?" Issac muttered with in himself. "I don't love h
Issac watched Evelyn entered her car and drove off with out giving him a glance. He heaved out a shallow sigh and was about to sit down when he saw the doctor approaching him.He stopped midway before straightening his posture again. "How is she, doctor?" He asked, demandingly. "Can I see her now?" "Yeah..." The doctor replied, wearing a small smile on his face. "She has woken up few minutes ago and so, you can see her now." "Thank you so much for your care, doctor." Issac said with sincerity laced in his voice. "I really appreciate your effort to save her." "You don't need to mention, Mr. Issac." The doctor replied in a plain yet casual voice. "We have only done our responsibility on her and it's nothing much."Isaac nodded slowly before he left the doctor and went to meet his mother. He could not believe his eyes.He was here just the previous day and his mother could not even hear him speak, she only lie on her sickbed helplessly like she is not going to survive it but here she
