NINE

The huge firm had barely changed, it was just as he had left it few years before. Isaac hold the urge to look around and feed his eyes with the marvelling sight of the firm, he does not want to appear too pathetic.

"I'm here for the CEO..." Isaac uttered in the manly voice he managed to put up to the lady he guessed to be the receptionist, his weight barely rested on the counter. "She is supposed to resume work half an hour ago."

The receptionist nodded positively in confirmation, staring oddly at him and in the next few seconds just before Isaac could utter yet another word.

"I guess you are Mr. Isaac then?" She asked but it sounded more like a plain sentence to a question.

"Yes, I am. I'm supposed to be in her office in the next five minutes." Issac replied her.

"Let me lead you to her office then." The receptionist offered politely. "She's been expecting your arrival. This way, Mr. Isaac."

"You don't have to worry yourself that much, Ms." Issac uttered as he politely turned down her request. "I only want to confirm if she is in her office, I can find my way there myself."

"Well, If you insist then." The receptionist said with a slightly raising her shoulders as she watch Issac take his leave.

The way to her office have not yet change, it is still the same as he had left. But some few changes occur, the painting and her door too.

Issac stop at her office door and ring the doorbell waiting for her reply before he would go in.

"Come in..." He heard her said and he heaved in a short sigh for the last time before he went inside.

Evelyn Anderson sat on her table waiting for Issac and she beam a smile at him immediately he entered.

"You can have your seat..."

"Yeah, thanks." He nodded curtly as he sat on the seat opposite her desk. "So...?"

"Good to see you again, Zik." She said with smiles radiating on her face. "I was right when I said you haven't changed. You still look the same as the old you and act the same too."

"You can just go straight to the point and leave the formalities." Issac told her with his face crumpled in a deep frown. "Its not like we are just meeting for the first time, you know."

"It does not matter, Zik." Evelyn Anderson replied, Isaac rolled his eyes at her words. "To me, it looks like it's been ages we met last and I think we need formal greetings before proceedings."

What's too hard for her to understand? They are not stranger and he see no reason why they need formal greetings before proceeding to the whatever offer she had in store for him.

Yeah, she is his ex boss and since the word 'ex' is in it, Issac see no reason why he won't be able to talk back at her the way he wants to.

"Just tell me what offer you have for me, Ms. Evelyn." Issac was already getting frustrating by her words. "I am sure you are not here to waste my precious time and I know you have got some thing better to do with yours too."

"Precious time indeed..." Evelyn Anderson uttered airily with a smirk on her face, it was like she's enjoying the frustrated look he is putting on. "Can you tell me what precious thing you want to do with your so called precious time?"

"It's none of your business, Ms..." Issac replied, almost hissing. "I see no reason why you have to poke nose into my personal life, you have no business with my private affair."

She nodded slowly, not buying his words. "Oh, I see..." She mouthed. "And talking about what I have got to do with my time, I got nothing. I mean nothing more than having a meeting with you today."

Would she just go straight to the point or keep joking around with him like this? Those were Isaac's thought as he adjusted uncomfortably on the seat he was offered earlier.

His mother is in the hospital and needs money to perform dialysis on her,  just dialysis and he need a whooping sum of ten thousand dollars.

He did not have a dime any where and did not know where to get the money from and here is Evelyn wasting his time?

He did not know where to start from and had decided to visit Evelyn since she had said she had a mouth watering offer for him.

He had expect her to go straight to discussing the offer at once but she did not look like she had some thing important in store for him.

Maybe she just want to waste his time and if this is what she have in pack for him, she is really going to regret ever wasting his time.

What is he even talking about? That Evelyn Anderson, the top three richest woman in the States, would regret wasting his time?

He must be really kidding himself to think of such, he won't be able to do any thing to her and he know so but a threatening would do, he could only threaten her and nothing more.

"It seems you have nothing important to discuss with me, Ms." Issac said, standing on his feet like he was about leaving. "I regret ever being here in the first place, I should never have come here when I have something important on my table to work on." With this he turned to leave.

"Is it about your sick mother who has  been diagnosed with kidney problem?" Evelyn Anderson asked making Issac to stop on his track.

What! How did she manage to know about this too? That means she was right when she said she know a lot about his personal life. There is little or nothing left that she's yet to know.

"Who told you about my mother's illness?" Issac demanded, facing her. "How did you find out about it too?"

"You should sit down first, Zik." Evelyn replied with a smile at the corner of her lips and Issac find himself dancing to her tunes as he sat down as told.

"What else do you know aside from this?" He asked her and she possibly ignored him, pretending not to have heard him say some thing or maybe she wants him to repeat what he had just said.

"I am asking a question." Issac voice was getting a little bit louder than he speaks before. "I said what else do you know about me apart from my mother's illness?"

"You see, Zik..." Evelyn said drawling her words. "When I told you I know a lot of things about you, I mean almost or let me say all about you. Did you not get it then?"

Has she gone nuts, of course she can't know all about him. No one knows aside him and no one would ever know but yet, he has to comply with her.

"I see you know a lot indeed." Issac said swallowing his saliva hard. "But there must be a reason for me coming or are you planning on keeping me here for no reason?"

"Of course, there is." Evelyn was quick to agree to him. "You see, when I said a mouthwatering offer, I mean a huge offer which I think no one in your position would ever resist."

By saying position, is she trying to mock her or remind her of being a wretched guy? And what offer is she saying that someone on his position would never resist?

"Sorry to burst your bubbles but I still have my dignity, there are things I can still reject if I'm not okay with it." He told her, his voice was firm and slightly rough too.

"Oh, dignity you say?" She snickered mockingly. "You can't resist this particular offer, I promise you, Zik."

Isaac decided to ignore her, focusing on the offer to know how much he would benefit from it. "Well, let's hear it out if I can resist the offer or not." He told her.

"I am sure you won't resist this once." Evelyn told him, repeatedly with an assuring smile.

"Would you just spill it out already?" Issac found himself half yelling at Evelyn in total frustration and he did not regret it. Yes, she deserves it.

"I have decide to raise you out from your wretched life and..."

Wait, is she trying to make him remember his woes by calling him a wretched thing. He know he have a wretched life and need no one to remind him about it, not even Evelyn.

"How does my wretched life affects the offer you have in store for me?" Issac questioned in a bossy tone, irritated by her choice of words.

"A lot, dear..." Evelyn faked a laughter. "It affects it a lot but not negatively, it only affect it positively." Issac decide to calm down a bit just to listen to what she have to say.

"—and since I am a wealthy woman..." Evelyn began, slowly. "No man ever wants me as a wife because I am wealthy more than them and they could not stand me. They do thinks I might turn out to be rude too, you know."

Issac wonder what this has got to do with the offer. She's right here, she's wealthy and no one would want such a woman as a wife but how does it relate to him?

She said waiting for the word to sink in to Issac skull before proceeding but it did not.

"So? How does that get to do with me, 'cause I don't think I understand any of your words." He muttered, glaringly.

"Well, in a nutshell, all I'm saying is you should get married to me..."

To Issac, he is really hearing things...
