“My dear son-in-law has returned,” Madam Ann announced. She switched off the TV with a quick jab of the remote. Her voice tried to sound warm, but it cracked at the edges, her coffee-stained robe still clinging to her.

Kage had already seen the news on his phone in the car and heard the newscaster’s voice echoing in his head. The Wang Empire. A new heir. Blackgold. Child slavery. Mass arrests. He couldn’t wrap his mind around it. Who was this man? How did he come back from the dead? And why now?

“Tell me, Kage, did you… did you get the…” Madam Ann’s voice trailed off, her hands twisting together, her eyes searching his face for hope, for something to pull them out of the mess they were in. But she already knew the answer. She could see it in the way Kage stood, the way his eyes wouldn’t meet hers, the way his hands stayed buried in his pockets.

Kage shook his head, slow, his voice low, rough, like he’d been yelling for hours. “No.” He swallowed hard, his throat bobbing, his gaze f

“Dear amazing people of New York,” she began. “I’m sure you have seen the news. And yes, the heir has been found. October 6th, 3 days from now, his inauguration. Location and time would be sent only to those who are deserving –contracted companies, recent and old, friends and family and those who have stayed loyal to the Wang Empire through its darkest days.” Serena’s voice was sharp, her words cutting through the screen like a blade. She leaned forward slightly, her eyes cold, her face unreadable. “To the rest—be warned. The Wang Empire is back. And we’re cleaning the house.” There was a brief silence in the living room. No one said a thing. They digested all of Serena’s words. “Everyone, we are attending that inauguration.” Madam Ann finally began. “But mom…” “Silence,” Madam Ann cut Donald. “I don’t care if we are invited or not. We were terminated by the Sun Group, not by Wang Empire itself. And yes, even if they do own the Sun Group, I don’t give a damn! We are all attend

Gary walked majestically through the living room, clutching the papers in his hands. “There won’t be any need to sneak in. You are invited. I made sure of it.” His words hung in the air. They were not connecting to the listeners. All their focus was stolen by the file which he slapped on the glass table in the middle of the congregation. They wanted to believe, fantasized and wished that the file was actually the signed document from the Sun Group. But they knew that was not possible. It was far from possible. “Who gave you the right to walk into this conversation with some newspapers, loser? Are those your grandmother’s medical bills? I thought she was dead.” Donald said, trying to crack a joke, but Gary wasn’t smiling. He turned to Madam Ann. “And how the heck are you not hurt? You are supposed to be in prison receiving the beatings of your life. What is this?” Williams added. Kage was shocked as well. Gary kept doing some stranger things. “It doesn’t matter. I am out of prison

Gary finally turned to Kage, his eyes cold, his voice low. “They changed their mind. I made them change their mind.” He paused, tightening his jaw as his hands clenched into fists at his sides. “You’re welcome.” Ruth’s hands trembled as she clutched her phone, her voice small, her eyes darting between Gary and the document. “But… why? Why would they give us a deal this big? After everything? After they cut us off?”Gary’s eyes darkened. He took a step closer to the table, his voice steady but sharp, his words cutting through the room. “Because I told them the truth. I told them about your construction scam—stealing materials from Wang projects, using kids to do the work, pocketing the profits. I told them everything.” The room froze. Madam Ann’s face went pale, her hands gripping the arms of her chair, her voice a whisper. “You… you told them?” “I did,” Gary said. His voice was calm, but there was a fire in his eyes, a rage he’d been holding back for years. “And I told them I’d ma

“Well, mother,” he began. “It seems everyone has forgotten, but I understand. I will remind you. We had a deal. I have done my part. Now, it is time to do yours. First of all, Enrique has to go on his knees as said and call me sir, five times. Then, we drive to Times Square, and he strips naked and screams the very words he said, ‘Gary is my master, and I am his slave! Then, as promised, I will be made CEO of your company, and lastly, my grandmother’s hospital bills will be paid.” Madam Ann’s legs shook again. She had made foolish promises and stupid deals. “Oh dear, Gary, of course you will be made CEO of my company as agreed. But as a reward for your bravery, I will announce you as CEO during the big event. I mean, Wang is your surname too, what a coincidence, right? And as for your grandmother, yes, Gary. I will process the check immediately after the inauguration, okay?” Gary smiled within. “And Enrique?” “No, no… no, mom, don’t look at me that way. There is no fucking way I

The next morning was nothing short of bliss for Madam Ann. Her face was all smiles. Her well-kept office was a reflection of the joy in her soul. Normally, her office was always tidy and neatly arranged, thanks to Gary and the other house maids. But today was different; of course, it had to be. There was a soft knock on her glass door. It was Gary. “Come in,” she invited softly. Gary was holding her cup of tea as usual. He would bring it to her office every morning. It was a good thing she worked from home. But also a bad thing because all those years, Gary would be subjected to forced labour. As Gary dropped her tea, he shook his head. On this very table, every single cursed day, this witch of a woman would always thank him with a slap. ‘Too hot’ ‘Too cold’ ‘You are late’. Gary chuckled inwardly as he reminisced; all those years were hell for him. Regardless, he never ran away. He was willing to do everything for his mother and for his wife. But this insane woman ordered his

Evelyn spun around, her eyes wide, her heart dropping. “Kage—I didn’t mean—” “You didn’t mean what?” Kage shouted, his hands balled into fists, his eyes burning. “That I’m nothing? That you’d rather be with that loser Gary? I heard you, Evelyn! I heard every word!” Madam Ann stepped between them, her voice sharp, her hands raised. “Enough! Both of you, shut up, please! We don’t have time for this drama. The inauguration is in two days, and we need to be united, not fighting over some slave!” Kage ignored her, his eyes locked on Evelyn, his voice low and dangerous. “You want Gary? Fine. Go to him. But don’t come crying to me when he shows you who he really is. I’m done.” He turned and stormed out, slamming the door so hard the glass rattled. Evelyn’s hands flew to her face, her voice a sob, her body shaking. “Kage, wait!” She ran after him, but her mother stopped her. “Let him leave, Evelyn. Are you forgetting? We are now on top. He no longer qualifies to be your husband. Howard

  • A Man Called Revenge   Chapter 42: The Inauguration

Daytime appeared to move really slowly. Everyone in the city was talking. Blog posts, Youtube Shorts, Instagram feeds. Everyone –both those invited and those who could only watch from live streams– they all talked about the big event. Ladies showed off their dresses online, gowns sparkling like they cost a fortune. Men bragged about their custom suits, their watches dripping with diamonds, their cars ready to turn heads. It was a much anticipated event. And finally the long awaited event. As dusk finally settled, the Wang Empire headquarters came alive. The building was a colossus—100 stories of glass and steel, towering over New York like a silent monarch. Gold accents shimmered under the city lights, casting a warm glow against the beautiful evening sky. At the entrance, marble pillars stood tall, framing a red carpet that spilled onto the pavement like a river of fire. Above, helicopters whirred, ferrying tycoons too important to bother with traffic. The air was thick with

“First of all, cheers to all of you for coming here. This event is currently being viewed by 400 million people around the world. But you are not streaming it. You are here because you were invited. You earned your place in those seats. By the way, I might turn lesbian because I see so many pretty women today.” The host said, and almost everyone cranked up with laughter. Some people, however, were offended by her joke, but the laughter suppressed it. No one gave a damn about how they felt. In a billionaires’ gathering, no one took anything to heart. Because it was true, wealthy men detached emotions from business. The Lancaster family sat in one row in the middle of the mighty hall filled with over 2,000 participants. Evelyn looked like a golden apple freshly plucked from the tree. Her dress was so beautiful, elegant, and revealing, stealing the eyes of those around her, including Kage. But Gary did not even look at her twice, despite sitting next to her. It was evident that he

The maitre d’ finally spoke up. “Actually, sir, in Chateau Blanc, we have 4 rooms. The Gold Room, costing $5 Million for a session. The Platinum Room, costing $10 Million for a session. Then we have the Diamond room which, meals and other services costing $40 Million for an hour. And lastly, we have the Celestial Chamber costing $120 Million for 12 hours for all services.” The maitre d’ ended by saying, shakingly, “And you, sir, are in the Celestial Chamber. Only two people have the right to access the room. First, the worthy, and secondly, the Wang Empire.” At the mention of the Wang Empire, Gary smiled. He was not even aware himself. As it were, he had more power than he realised. It would be safe to say he, his empire, controlled America. A fact. His company racked up more than $100 Trillion every year. So he was not surprised at all. Enrique’s stomach twisted like a knot. The food in his mouth suddenly tasted like rocks. His hands began to shiver. He had not even looked up the

  • Chapter 76: Château Blanc

The night had just begun to breathe over the city skyline, casting a glassy sheen across the mirrored downtown towers. Neon signs danced over polished car hoods, and streetlamps blinked to life like curious eyes watching the night unfold. A long, obsidian-black Bentley slowed before the glistening entrance of the Chateau Blanc—a five-star culinary fortress known for hosting monarchs, billionaires, and the kind of power players who made empires tremble with a phone call. In less stressful words, Chateau Blanc was absolutely stunning. “Mr. Enrique, the Diamond Room is ready. We’ve chilled the Opus One just as requested.” A serveur said. “Perfect,” Enrique replied, tossing his keys to the valet with a casual flick. “Take care of her, will you? She’s a rare breed.” The valet barely nodded, already smitten by the car, the aura, the money. Nova’s brows raised slightly. “Diamond Room?” she asked, leaning toward Enrique as they entered the marble-floored lobby. “Are you sure, Enrique.

  • Chapter 75: Nova Whitemore

John Kennedy Airport was the definition of true luxury. It was more than an airport, it was a home to air birds, public and private. Only the wealthy could afford to use that airport or even walk on those grounds. Clearly, Nora had made it big, big enough to have hired her own private jet. People could be seen driving their convoys, welcoming loved ones and perhaps, hated ones, also. It was a known fact that your greatest enemy is in your home. Gary could relate so explicitly. Finally, as soon as the clock struck 12:15 pm, the convoy came to a halt. Gary stepped out of the car and was about to walk away when Enrique stopped him. “Hey, where the fuck are you going? Come open the door for me and don’t walk away like you are someone important.” Gary paused, and then he smiled. He then turned back and walked back to the Black Sedan, to the passenger seat at the back where Enrique was seated like Randy Watson from Coming to America. Gary knocked on the window, and then Enrique wou

  • Chapter 74: A Feat For The Fit

We still have to show the loser some respect. Anyways, you have my approval. You may go ahead, open a restaurant in Lancaster's name, give it a nice brand name, and keep Gary in charge of the chefs. I am sure with his lucky charm, Gary will make the business blow up, somehow. Who knows, he may be a god or something...” Everyone laughed hysterically. The thought of Gary being anything more than a loser and a live-in son-in-law was like trying to picture things from a 5D perspective or an alternate reality. Even in another reality, they all believed Gary was a nobody. Turning to Evelyn, who was not laughing, “if you can source the funds yourself, find a nice location and make the business something remarkable, Evelyn, I promise to make you Manager of the entire restaurant, all income entering into your account directly.” “And if I fail?” “You won’t fail, Evelyn.” Gary from his cold, dark corner spat darkly. “Oh shut up asshole. How dare you intrude on family business? You should

The Lancaster family reclined at the table to have breakfast and pray to Buddha, their usual ritual. Evelyn fought hard to keep her eyes off Gary, who was seated at his usual spot, the corner of the dining room, where he would sit on a small seat to eat his meal. “You know, Gary is a really good cook,” Evelyn said out loud. “He never fails to impress me. I’m thinking, instead of staying at home all day doing nothing, we could set up a business for him under our name so he can attract huge clients.” Everyone stopped eating to look at Evelyn, whose face was more radiant than it had been for a long, long time. “I mean, we should open a restaurant and make him manager. He would be able to get himself busy and take care of his grandmother. With the recent $450 contract, we are attracting so many clients and partners. They would definitely want to try the Lancaster’s restaurant. Gary would be putting his skill to use.” The dining was quiet. Even Gary had his food stuck halfway down his

“Gary, wait!” she said softly, her voice trembling now. “I know I’ve hurt you. But this… this isn’t about some hidden wealth or status or making some rich guy fall to your feet. I don’t care about the money. It’s you. You’ve always been the one I wanted. I… I just didn’t realize what I had until it was too late.” Her eyes glistened as she stepped closer, her words growing more desperate. “I’m sorry, Gary. Truly sorry.” For a moment, it seemed like the world had paused. Gary remained still, his back to her, contemplating her words. He had never truly let her in, even when they were married. And now, after everything, she was here, asking for another chance. But could he trust her again? Could he let her in, knowing the depth of the wounds she had caused? Worse still? Did she have ulterior motives? Had she found out the truth and was now using it as bait? Slowly, he turned to face her, his gaze softening just a fraction. The fire in his eyes had dimmed, but there was still an unmist

  • Chapter 71: Too Late To Say Sorry?

The following morning, Gary was up on time, despite having slept really late. He woke up before everyone else as usual. He cleaned the entire house and did the laundry. He had less than a week. When he would eventually leave, he would definitely miss all of… all of this. The cleaning, the cooking, the shouting. None of it was pretty, none of it was comfortable. But it was a chapter of his life he would never open again, a room he would never visit. Once he was done, he would be out of the Lancaster's house for good. He would fully be Master Wang, heir to the trillion dollar empire. Gary flipped the eggs, setting them carefully on the plates one after the other. He made the family’s favourite for breakfast. Scrambled eggs, Pineapple juice and toast. A weird combination only them enjoyed. Gary hummed gently, trying to push away the thoughts of the mysterious rung nagging behind his head. He had made a resolve the previous night not to allow some mysterious shit ruin his day or allow

So, tomorrow, you will go to the best hair stylist in this country and get the most pretty dress for the party and You Will Get Married To Edmond, or I’ll make sure you regret it!” Madam Ann’s voice sliced through the dining room, sharp enough to cut glass. Evelyn went quiet. Gary, pressed against the foyer wall, held his breath, his fingers brushing the ring in his pocket—cold, heavy, like it heard every word. His legs still shook from the drive, Lola’s warning ringing: “Your grandfather’s alive. That ring means he’s close.” He’d meant to slip upstairs, avoid this mess, but Madam Ann’s screams hooked him. Now he stood frozen, eavesdropping, heart thumping loud enough to give him aw

  • Chapter 69: Sacrifice Or Foolishness?

Gary returned back home to the Lancaster’s mansion. His legs were shaking but his mind was steady. It was probably the cold or something worse. He sat in his car, parked in the driveway, and hit his head on the steering wheel. Though strong, it gave him comfort for a moment. His grandfather was still alive? And he was still after him? Gary leaned back in the driver’s seat, his hands still gripping the wheel, the ring cold in his pocket. He was not so sure what scared him more: Whether it was the fear of being dragged to an altar and getting roasted before some useless Xue Wang god shit, or it was getting killed and kidnapped by his grandfather. Or whether it was facing his grandfather himself. The old man pulling strings from China. As he raised his head up, he sighed. What more surprises lay in store for him? First, he was a loser, a nobody. And somehow, he found out his true identity. He was the heir to some Trillion Dollar Empire. Snap! Just like that, in the blink of an eye.
