Black shadows

Lance stumbled back into the dungeon, still weak and shaky from his injuries. Glenda rushed to his side, her eyes filling with tears as she took in the bruises and cuts on his face.

"Lance, are you okay?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Lance managed a weak smile. "I'm okay, Glenda. They patched me up pretty good in the infirmary."

But Glenda could see the pain in his eyes, and she knew that he was far from okay.

A guard came in and instructed her to step out of the prison and she did so, going back out of the dungeon.

As they watched, a guard locked Lance back up in his cell. Glenda and the rest of Lance's friends - Liam, Frank, and Mara - watched in sorrow as he disappeared from view.

Miss Eloise came back and approached them with a sad expression on her face.

"I'm so sorry, children," she said softly. "I wish there was more we could do to help Lance."
