It was 5:45 pm when Shane finally finished cleaning and tidying up the mess the two of them had made in the kitchen. He hid the freshly baked cookies inside a few random jars and put them on a high shelf, hoping that their parents wouldn't notice them.
But, as he had learned several years prior, luck was never something he had on his side.
The second he finished hiding the last jar, he heard the sound of the front door open.
"I'm home" his father announced, walking in the kitchen, stopping upon finding his son there "What are you doing here?"
"What? Can't I grab a snack in my own house?" he tried to act casual and come up with a believable excuse.
"Not if you're supposed to be in school right now" he cringed "You know I hate repeating myself, give me an answer Shane"
Shane stayed quiet, pondering his answer carefully.
"Shane" that was his warning tone, he was starting to get angry.
"I accompanied Angela back home, that's all"
"And why did you skip your class-"
"There weren't classes in the afternoon today" he lied smoothly, it's not like he would bother in actually checking his class schedule, he makes it look like he cares, but in reality, he doesn't. He's just mad that his son's home, because now he can't lock Angela in her room and get drunk.
"Whatever" he mumbled angrily, heading towards the living room, undoing his tie and flopping on the couch "Just hand me a beer" Shane rolled his eyes, knowing that his father would just get angrier if he said no, so he walked towards the fridge, opening it and grabbing a can, hanging it out to him. He left right after, he didn't want to spend one more second in the same room as his father's.
Shane couldn't care less about assignments or surfing the internet right now, so he just collapsed on his bed, wanting nothing more than just fall asleep and forget everything that happened today. He had almost achieved his goal, closing his eyes and slowly starting to doze off.
That is, until his phone begun buzzing with messages.
He groaned, rolling over and angrily grabbing it from the nightstand, getting blinded by the strong light.
"Fuck! Why do I keep setting it that high?" he mumbled annoyed, turning it down to minimal before checking who was bothering him.
"Alex, of course" he looked at the absolute flood of messages he had sent.
Crazy fuck: Oi!
Crazy fuck: You alive dude?
Crazy fuck: Answer me ya fuk!
Crazy fuck: You better not have gone on an adventure without me.
Crazy fuck: Or gotten eaten and/or kidnapped by aliens.
He smiled "Classic Alex"
Shane: Stop spouting nonsense you idiot.
Shane: I'm alive and well.
Crazy fuck: Oh yeah? Tell me something only the real Shane knows.
He sighed.
Shane: You gained rather greenish skin color after tasting my father's cooking today.
Crazy fuck: Ok it's you.
Shane just rolled his eyes.
Shane: So why did you have bother me? If it's not important then move it to tomorrow, I need some shut eye.
Crazy fuck: The fuck dude? It's 5 pm!
Shane: I am tired.
Crazy fuck: You know I write to you only when I got important and super secret stuff to talk about.
Shane: Like that time you thought the cat of the lady next door was a mutant?
Crazy fuck: Hey! We talked about this! I fucking saw that thing turn and smile at me! And it had a creepy ass smile!!
Shane: Whatever, what do you want?
Crazy fuck: Remember that old creepypasta from a while back?
Shane: Which one?
Crazy fuck: Slenderman.
He groaned.
Shane: Alex I'm tired and need to sleep.
Crazy fuck: But I got this hot news!!
Shane: Yeah well, the news can wait until tomorrow, I'm going to bed.
Crazy fuck: Dude! It's fucking 5 pm!
Shane: Byeeeee.
After that he turned off his phone and threw it across the room, not caring where it landed, or if it survived at all. As soon as his head hit the pillow, Shane dozed off into a dreamless slumber.
He woke up several hours later, it was the middle of the night still, he could tell by the lack of sunlight filtering through the curtains of his window.
What woke him up was the sound of someone hitting something. Something hard, like a wall.
"What the?" he grumbled, blinking a few times to clear his vision, reaching for his watch, which had a button so it would lit up just enough to read the time "It's fucking 3 am! Who's making this noise?" he sat up, yawning before reaching for the light switch, flinching once it turned on.
"I swear to God, if it's another raccoon I'll-" he was cut off by another yawn escaping his mouth "-fuck, I'm too tired for this"
He looked around the room for a moment before finding where his phone landed. He grabbed it, turned it back on and headed downstairs, checking the living room first, finding his father passed out on the couch with a few empty bottles of beer near him.
"Nothing unusual here" he then went in the kitchen, seeing that everything was in place. Next he checked Angela's room.
He gently opened the door, seeing her fast asleep in her bed, hugging a teddy bear. He smiled, quietly shutting the door, being careful not to make too much noise.
"Everything alright here as well" he whispered.
And yet he kept hearing that sound, it was rhythmic, too rhythmic for it to be caused by an animal.
'Could it be a branch hitting the window? But the sound isn't quite right and it's not that windy outside...'
After he checked the whole house from the inside and found nothing wrong, he decided to check the outside as well.
He grabbed his father's coat, since it was the closest one on the coat hanger, as well as the warmest, threw it on and walked out, being mindful to grab a set of keys so he wouldn't end up locking himself out by accident, like he did last time.
There was nothing wrong with the front yard, the backyard though...
"Oh for fuck's sake" he groaned upon seeing that the trash cans had been knocked over "Fucking raccoons" he sighed, pulling up his sleeves and starting to clean up the mess they've made. Shane tried to be as quiet as possible but it was still pretty loud. Nonetheless, he managed to finish in about ten minutes.
"Now my hands are gonna stink for the rest of the day, thanks raccoons" he grumbled annoyed, walking back to the front door so to go back inside. He was about to open the door when he heard some branches snap behind him. He turned around and froze on the spot a the sight.
A man.
An Incredibly tall and slender man, dressed in an elegant black suit with a red tie stood a few meters away from the entrance of their yard. Shane couldn't see his face very well, probably due to the low level of light.
'What the-where did he come from?! I didn't even hear him walk up to the fence!' that clearly freaked him out.
He tried to remain calm, freaking out wasn't the solution right now and beside, he might not even have bad intentions.
'Yeah right, as if anyone sane of mind will be out walking at this hour in a suit staring at people's yard' he thought sarcastically, slowly backing away until his back hit the door. The man just stood there, staring at him, which allowed Shane to slowly maneuver the keys in his hand and unlock the door, darting inside and locking it back up at lightning speed.
He immediately checked from the window frame to see if the man had moved, but he was gone.
He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, panting heavily, his heart beating a thousand miles per hour.
"Ok, note to self, don't venture outside at 3 am in the morning ever again" he said with a nervous laugh.
"Shane?" a voice behind him called, making him yelp in both surprise and fear.
"A-angela" he breathed out upon seeing hi little sister walk up to him, dragging her teddy bear from one arm "You scared me... what are you doing up at this hour?"
"Can't sleep..." she mumbled sleepily.
"Nightmare?" she nodded "Can I sleep with you?" Shane raised a brow "Aren't you a bit too old for this?" he lightly teased.
"Shut up you have nightmares too!"
"Yeah but I don't wine about it, I'm a big boy after all" she rolled her eyes "Just let me sleep with you this once" he smiled "Alright, just this once" Shane looked back outside one more time before heading towards his room, Angela following close behind.
'Maybe I just imagined it?'
'Why am I here again?' Shane asked himself as he blankly stared at the blackboard while the teacher explained some subject that he clearly wouldn't have an actual use in real life, yawning and fighting against his falling eyelids in order to stay awake. His idea was to remain at home saying that he was sick or something, but his dad didn't buy it and kicked him out first thing in the morning. 'How much longer do I have to endure this torture?' he gave a quick look at the clock hung on the wall, it read 9:35 am, which made him groan. 'Why does time move so fucking slow at school!?' He had tried to skip classes again, but since this time he managed to arrive in time, even though he walked really, and I mean reeealllyy slow. The teacher just dragged him in before he had time to flee, and now he's stuck listening to this boring lesson. 'Why did I enroll in this school anyway? I hate studying' Then he remembered why, his parents. They wanted him to become someone with a bright fut
After making dinner for Angela and eating together, Shane ended up cleaning the kitchen and quickly went up in his room, locking the door and throwing himself onto bed. He pulled out his phone and turned on the torch, pointing it upwards so it would light up the room a bit, just enough to see. He did this cuz his lazy ass was not feeling like standing up, walking back towards the door, reaching out and flipping the light switch on. 'Naaa, too much work' He reached inside his pocket and grabbed the sheet of paper Bianca had handed him this afternoon, it was fairly crumpled but luckily it didn't tear. He carefully opened it, not wanting to rip it by accident, and then focused the light of the torch on it so to see what did it say. 'Syke! You thought I would just give out my number to others that easily? No sir! If you want it you'll have to work in order to get it! >:)' "What the?" Shane mumbled confused. 'If you're up for the challenge, just turn the paper around, good luck
"So let me get this straight" Alex mumbled as they all walked together to school, accompanying Angela to her first. Apparently, throughout some unknown astral power, his friend found out about the interaction Shane had with Bianca, and therefore came to pester him the second they set foot out of their house, forcing him to spill everything "She gave you her number" "She didn't give me her number" Shane replied, already having had enough about the day, even though it had just started. "Then you called her and she pestered you about creepypastas" "She didn't" "And now she's your girlfriend!?" "Again, no" he groaned, burying his face in his hands, trying to figure out how Alex got wind to this in the first place. He thought he might have placed some sort of app or device on his phone or some shit like that. Shane made a mental note to check his phone thoroughly once home. "For the last time Alex, she's my girl friend, with a space in between between. Two separate words, get it?
As Shane sat through another seemingly never ending class, his attention getting caught by everything that could distract him from this boring lesson. Halfway through dozing off, he saw something land on the side of his school desk. A crumpled up piece of paper. He was a little startled at first but soon opened it and found a short message inside that made him smirk. 'Ya having fun ey? :P' he looked around, trying to figure out who sent the message. He didn't have to look for long, since he soon found a familiar pair of eyes staring at him. Shane snickered, ducking his head so to not be seen by the teacher as he wrote a reply on the back of the paper, throwing it back at Bianca when no one was looking. Luckily, the two of them were seated fairly close to each other, as well as in the second to last row, so it was harder for the teacher to spot them. The transaction went smoothly and she received his message, shaking her head in disapproval. They continued to exchange notes secretly
"Shane!" Angela called, slightly tugging his sleeve while they walked home from school. "Mh?" "Did something good happen at school today?" her question surprised "Why do you ask?" "You look happier than usual" he raised an eyebrow "Do I?" "You've been grinning like a creepy serial killer the whole way back while nodding rhythmically, I'm pretty sure a few people we encountered thought you were kidnapping me or that you escaped from an asylum" she said sarcastically. Shane looked around, noticing in fact a few people stare at him with a worried look on their faces, some even had their phone in hand, ready to call the police. "Oh fuck" he mumbled, pulling up his hood and hurrying his pace "Why didn't you tell me?!" he whisper yelled, feeling his face burn in embarrassment. "I tried to, you just kept humming at me like the idiot you are" she grumbled annoyed "It's not my fault if your head is always in the clouds, you should consider tying a rope to it so you can keep it down to g
"Why did I agree to this?" Shane kept scolding himself throughout the whole drive to the party for not seeing Angela's scheme, which caused him to end up giving a lift to three more of her friends who were also going there. When he returned home from school, he grabbed the car keys and told her to jump in, she did and soon after gave him an address. Shane thought it was the party's address. Nope, it was the one of a friend who needed a ride. She then did it again and again, for a total of 3 times! Three! Freaking! Times! She fooled him three times! After which, she finally gave him the right address and they were currently heading towards it now, and, cherry ontop, because Shane was frustrated, he kept hitting the side of the sidewalk with the tires, giving the pedestrians quite a scare. "Brother are you sure you're trying to get us there alive? No because it looks like you're giving it your all to make a tire pop" she commented as her friends laughed in the back seats. "Angy"
'This is pain' Shane thought as he walked to school with Alex 'Both mentally and physically' "Pffff" "Shut up" "I'm not saying anything" Alex hummed. "I can hear your thoughts even if you're not saying them out-loud" he commented bitterly. "It's not my fault you decided to be the guinea pig for a group of ten-year-olds practicing makeup, dude" "I didn't really have a choice in the matter and you know it" he said with a groan, rubbing his eyes furiously "AND NOW THIS FUCKING SHIT WON'T COME OFF!! I'VE ALREADY TAKEN FOUR SHOWERS! FOUR!" Alex couldn't help but laugh at his friend's pain "Yeah no kidding, I'm pretty convinced they used a mixture of makeup and permanent markers on you. Have you tried bleaching your eyes yet? At least you won't be able to see it anymore" he teased, earning a glare in response "Have you tried bleaching your brain? At least you wouldn't be able to be a pain anymore" "Alright alright sorry. I'll try g****e a way to remove permanent marker later while
As soon as the door began to open, Shane got shoved in one of the stalls by Bianca before he had the time to react. Although he was thankful for that, because as soon as he realized what was happening, his body froze. 'Damn, how many time does Bianca have to save my ass? At this rate I will end up owing her so much shit that I'd go bankrupt' he thought with a smile as he pulled up his feet, so they couldn't see that there was someone in the stall. Not forgetting to lock it of course. "Well well well, look who it is now" one of the girls said in a smug tone "What is a whore doing in the girl's bathroom at school? Shouldn't you use the one at the gas station a mile down the road?" Shane was shocked upon hearing this. "Yeah sorry about that, your boyfriend told me he would pick me up an hour ago and bring me there but apparently he stood me up for your best friend" Bianca shot back, earning an offended gasp from the girls. "How dare you! You bitch! Stay away from my boyfriend!" "It'
