A minute passed by while Donald kept on a straight face showing he was rather proud of his idea and ignored the odd looks he was being given before Kyng finally found the breath to speak up again, “Okay wait. Disregarding the outrageousness of the idea. Even if and I’m only saying ‘if’ we decided to do what you just said, how do you expect us to paint the statues in their entirety. Not even mentioning the cost of doing all of this, how are we going to reach the higher points of the statue. You know those statues are probably over ten meters tall sha?”
“That’s easy,” Dayo said looking confident like he was pitching a million-dollar idea, “We’ll just get one of those machine with very long handles that lifts things, what do they call them again… on yeah, Cranes!”
The two that were previously already speechless couldn’t help but question which world they were living in at the moment.
After staring at Donald for a short while, Kyng finally shook his head as he looked away from him and turned to Dayo, “So how far, gimme something else please”
“Yeah, um let’s see…” Dayo also turned his gaze to look at Kyng as he replied.
Meanwhile Donald feeling taken aback at their lack of response to his idea opened his mouth to speak, “So we’re going with the cranes and spray paint idea right?”
“…Shey we should prank the Vice-principal and take a video of it?” Dayo said to Kyng ignoring Donald as he suggested,
“Finally something that sounds plausible… but what prank exactly? we need to make that stone faced man pee his pants at least…”
“Well let’s see…” Dayo replied with a contemplative look.
Donald looked from Dayo to Kyng then back to Kyng before finally looking back to Dayo, “So you guys are really going to ignore me now?”
The two of them finally turned to look at him as they replied together, “Yeah we are.”
Just as they were about to keep ignoring Donald, the class adviser who had been gone for only a short while walked back into their class. He walked with seemingly slow but quick steps as he reached the front of the class from the back where the door was located quickly.
“Alright guys, your new classmate is here, I want you all to give her a warm welcome. Ms. Anderson, you can come in now. Please come to the front of the class before taking your seat so you can be properly introduced.” The class adviser looked to the door as he said the last words.
At the end of his words, the whole class turned their heads around to look behind them to the door as they watched on curiously before any figure could even step through the door.
Kyng as well as Donald and Dayo also looked towards the door that had been left wide open without a shadow to be seen standing there.
“*Hmph* I just knew it was a girl, I’d have won the bet at this point…”
Kyng and Dayo could hear Donald mumbling those words under his breath as they all stared at the door, but they were waiting to see who was coming through the door so they couldn’t be bothered with him at the moment. The only response to those words was the corner of Dayo’s lips tilting upwards as they all they all kept their eyes trained on the door.
A second passed with no one coming through the door, then another second passed, the third second passed when a figure finally stepped through the door.
It was then at that very moment that Kyng laid his eyes on the girl, the very first girl to pull his heart strings in the weirdest way possible, leaving him feeling a different kind of way that he couldn’t understand or couldn’t even realize that he was feeling.
To him at that moment, it felt like a scenic moment in a movie, a rather cliché one that he had read about or watched a lot of times but he couldn’t be bothered to realize that at this point.
She was clearly not an African, much less a Nigerian. With fair skin bordering on white, and eyes a pretty blend of blue and green, she would be able to instantly stand out from the crowd, put in a African country setting with people of darker skin shades all around, it was even more prominent and obvious, like how it was in the classroom now, she attracted every pair of eye in the class without a single one showing no reaction or emotion on seeing her. On seeing this and feeling all eyes on her, she lowered her head even further than it already was, blocking the view of her beautiful face with her hair.
The blocking went both ways as she also didn’t want to look at any one of the students that were now already her classmates and see their gazes trained on her. She couldn’t help feeling majorly nervous at this moment.
Though her legs had never stopped moving forward, she still took a fair amount of time walking the distance from the door to the front of the relatively large classroom with no obstacles in her way. The numerous pair of eyes all on her didn’t seem to help in anyway either.
Eventually, with all eyes following her movements and not a sound being heard in the class. She reached the front of the class, turning to face the crowd of students with her head still tilted downwards.
After patiently waiting for her at the front of the class, Mr. Michael, the class adviser, finally spoke up again.
“Alright guys, now this is Kira Kim Anderson, a foreign student who will be your new classmate, let’s all give her a warm welcome please…”
His voice seemed to carry a weight that knocked them out of their silence as the whole class burst into greetings after he finished his words.
“Welcome to Ocean premier high”
“Welcome to Ocean premier high school Kira”
“You’re most welcome to our humble institution beauty”
Some rascal students at the back who thought they couldn’t be seen also took the chance to yell out their own greetings.
“Fine girl, welcome o!”
“You can come sit at the back right here beside me”
“Or here with me!”
“I know I can treat youu better than they can, cause every girl like you deserves a gentleman like me”
The last greeting that was more like a declaration rang out loud and clear in a somewhat melodious but strained voice, causing the whole class to burst into laughter, even the class adviser, Mr. Michael, could only shake his head helplessly with a wry smile on his face as he heard it. “Alright that’s enough everybody. I asked you to welcome her, not tease her. You won’t be getting signed by any label for singing here anyways…” another burst of laughter erupted in the class.
“Alright, you can go take your seat now. Take any available seat you want for now. The sitting arrangement isn’t permanent though so if you find where you sit not to your liking, you can choose another one tomorrow when you get to school again…”
Hearing what the class adviser said, she turned to the side and quietly walked again to the back of the class. The trip taking much longer this time around as she felt the eyes on not receding.
After a few seconds she reached an empty seat at the back, pulled the chair back as quietly and slowly as she could and sat down gently. She moved like as if she didn’t want to make a single noise and intended for the whole class to forget her existence.
Coincidentally, the chair she sat in was rather close to where Kyng, Dayo and Donald sat. she kept her head down so she didn’t notice that Kyng had still been watching her alongside Dayo and Donald. Though the two were watching Kyng more than they were watching the girl. Looking at the expression on his face, they took a glance at each other and noticed the similar thoughts they had in mind. They could tell that something was different with their friend on seeing this new classmate of theirs. The two of them grinned knowingly at each other as they realized this.
Donald then sighed exaggeratedly as he parted his lips to speak. “Initially I had beautiful dreams of making her my wife. But looks like I’ll only be a third wheel with someone else already head over heels for her.
Kyng who had kept staring was suddenly woken from his daze on hearing Donald’s abrupt, and rather jarring at the moment, words. He felt slightly irritated for being disturbed at first before he realized the meaning of the words he just heard. He paused a bit before turning his gaze away from the new girl behind them, turning to look towards the front as he feigned nonchalance, “What nonsense are you saying.”
Donald and Dayo also followed suit, turning the direction of their sight to the front as Donald began teasing, acting like he had just realized something, “What nonsense am I saying? Just say you want us to keep it a secret so your one sided but inspiring love doesn’t get discovered…”
At that point, Kyng could feel his hand itching to punch someone hard but he could only smile a weird smile as he replied, “You don’t have any sense left guy.”
Dayo who was beside the duo burst into laughter at this point, quietly enjoying the show without saying a word, but from his expression, it was clear that he was clearly on Donald’s side in this case, similarly teasing Kyng with his eyes and gaze.
The class adviser resumed talking at this moment though before he could say anything. “Alright guys, so remember what I said, don’t forget to come to me if you have any questions you need to ask or you have a problem that’s hard to solve, I may not be able to do much about it, but I should hopefully at that point be able to point you in the right direction to take. So I’ll be leaving your class now. A subject teacher should be coming in shortly after to introduce the term’s scheme of work and all that. See you all whenever I do…” and with that, he strode to the door and then left the class.
The students began discussing amongst themselves again on the departure of their class adviser. Amongst all of them, a girl in particular within a circle of some other girls stood up from her seat as she made her way moving in a particular direction, the direction leading to the seat of the new girl, their new classmate.
Although, they seemed to be focused on one thing or another here and there, the whole class still made sure to pay attention to the new girl and her actions, so when the other girl reached her table, the whole class was aware and now all eyes were on the new girl again along with the other girl, though they were doing so not as obviously as before.
“Mirah’s talking to the pretty new girl”
“I just knew she’ll be the first to go over”
“Mirah’s gone to talk to the new girl, what do you think she’ll say?”
“I don’t know, invite her to her girl’s gang?”
“Mirah’s got a gang?”
“Ha ha, not really actually, I mean she and her group of girls who hang around each other all the time, it might as well be a gang.”
“Oh…”
Whispers between the other classmates began to sound out softly in the classroom, the relatively noisy class became less noisy as a result as those interested in what might come looked on stealthily.
The girl called Mirah reached the table of the new girl quickly and then paused to tap on the table to get the girl’s attention. The new girl, Kira, who seemed to be focused on something she placed between herself and the table below what anyone could see, looked up from it as she noticed the girl standing before her with a smile on her face. She looked on quietly as she said nothing, as if asking with her eyes what the other girl wanted.

“Kyng!”Her voice rang through the com-link again as she called his name again after not receiving a response the first time, even if he was sleeping, she knew he would be forced to wake up.“No mom, I haven’t, I’ll be going now…”He spoke out knowing the receiver would pick up his voice and she would be able to hear him.“Don’t go to sleep before you do that. And come down to eat as well. Your friends are coming over?”Sighing lightly, he pushed himself up from the bed as he began taking off his clothes. “Yes they are.”“What time are they coming over?”“In about thirty minutes or so…”“Alright then, go take a shower first, I can smell your sweat and all from over here even…”Kyng chuckled lightly in response, “Sure”|||Dropping back on his bed with a bounce, he wiped the water droplets on his forehead off as he closed his eyes for a bit.Opening his eyes again, a pretty figure flashed through in his mind seemingly reflecting out of his eyes, like he could see her once again. He had
Kyng looked at the girl with a little smile on his face as he said “Quinn, you can at least say a greeting first before you ignore the rest of us you know?”The girl paused on hearing that, finally deciding to spare Kyng a glance as she replied, “Announcing my return from school is my form of greeting Kyng.”He laughed a bit and shook his head in response while Donald was the one who spoke up instead with a teasing smile on his face, “The way she calls your name every time I hear it is so saucy Kyng, way beyond her age. Can’t you be like a cute little sister and act adorable for once even if you can never be one?”The young girl as if triggered seemed about to erupt on hearing what Donald said, only for her to cut short by her mom with a rap on her head. “Alright sweetie, that’s enough. Go upstairs to your room and freshen up, I’ll bring your food up there as well, but only after you’ve freshened up.”Quinn was reluctant but she couldn’t argue any more. Pouting to show her displeasure
“Here comes our Crown king! Everyone! Girls, go down on your knees, Boys, lay flat on the ground. Respect must be shown when greeting the King, no form of slight will be tolerated, Am I clear?!” “Kaabiyesi o!! Ha ha ha…” “I wonder if the palace has new vacancies for handmaidens with special services.” “I’d be happy to sign up!” “Me too!” “Me three!” Everyone teasingly called out and then bursted into laughter after following along with the initial voice that called out the words telling them to greet. Kyng walked into the class and shook his head lightly with a wry smile on his face as he heard the greetings called out to none other than him, a fellow student, not some supposed King. As introverted as he tended to be at times, he was always unable to keep to himself for long whenever he got to class anytime. These classmates of his always found one way or another to bring him out of his personal bubble, his imaginary space. Thinking back to the last term, he could still remem
“I thought you had a major issue with the codes and all the last time you told us?” “Well I did have a major issue back then, but like I just said, it was back then. I managed to pull myself together and get on with it. Trust me bro, those were trying times. But I figured out a little trick that managed to allow me to speed up the correction process, cutting down the time and even allowing me to spot some other errors I didn’t know even existed. And now after over six months despite some little mishaps trying to hold me down along the way, I finally managed to finish coding the legacy app, ‘Final year chronicles’. In the end, before we leave, we’d be setting the foundations in the app, our gift to the school and those coming after us…” Kyng watched Dayo closely as he spoke, he could actually clearly see him shivering from excitement. Who wouldn’t be so excited though, after coding your first application software for over six months and finally getting to complete it with no problem
“Good morning guys…” the man said as he reached the front of the class, He paused a bit before he continued with a light smile on his face, “At this point in time, you guys all probably already know me and know who I am, what my name is. But following the formalities, I should probably introduce myself properly, so… my name is Omaye Michael, you can call me Mr. Michael, or maybe call me Sir Michael or Teacher Michael or even Lord Michael, I won’t mind that at all…” at this point, the man chuckled to himself a bit, feeling pleased with his little joke that managed to receive a decent amount of laughs from the class of students staring at him, before he continued, “You all should know me as your class adviser, I’m the person you can come to meet if you have any issues or questions concerning your academics or whatnot. But before I say anything else, here’s one question…Are you ready?”“Yeah we are!”“Well for now I’ll accept you barely are but I’ll have you guys know that you can never
