POV: Escape

Fatima lay on her bed counting the minutes she had until 8:00 pm.

She had gone through the day restless as she had been engaged in her thoughts.

Now she was too afraid to imagine what she would do with her freedom if the plan succeeded.

She didn't want to hope too much. She had passed through enough disappointment already.

She glanced at the clock, 7; 45. She stood up and headed for the door. She had nothing to park as she had come to the institute without any belongings.

Outside, the lights were dim since it was sleeping time according to the roster on the notice board.

She tried to tip toe but the pain she felt from her leg as she applied pressure on it made her almost cry out. She stifled the shout by biting her clothes sleeves.

She dragged her leg along as she limped to the place. She could not use the shortcut in front of her as the area was manned by security guards. She had to follow the longer routine behind the general bathroom.

Since there was no one around the bathroom, she now walked freely as she hurriedly limped to get there on time.

"On passing the bathroom, she recalled the memories of what she suffered at the hands of Kate and her crew. It all seems far away now.

She walked down the stairways and came to the hallway. This part of the institute was unlit as it was no longer used.

She was not with a flashlight so she found her ways by using the walls with her hands and following its contours.

A hand grabbed her elbow and covered her mouth as she screamed in surprise.

Then a bright light came on and she saw Hassan looking at her. He released his hand from her mouth and hugged her.

“I'm glad you made it, now it remains papa. Hassan said, smiling at her. She looked him over, he seemed genuinely relieved at seeing her.

It was a comforting feeling knowing that she had her family around her.

They heard movement from the stairs and looked back to see papa coming with a flashlight.

Fatima ran and hugged him. He seems less rigid and emotional, Fatima thought as he hugged her also with enthusiasm.

Hassan greeted him and stood aloof but Papa included him in a huge also. He protested initially and then reluctantly agreed.

“We've got to be quick, it's now 8:00 pm, let's go," Papa said, pulling away from them.

“Papa, what are you wearing?" Fatima siad, laughing out loud.

He looked sheepishly as Hassan joined in the laughter.

“Stop fooling around and come, " he said as he moved forward. They joined him and they all passed through the door that she had unlocked earlier.

She held Papa's hand as they sloshed through the murphy ground. The landscape had changed from the stuffy tunnel to wet grasslands.

They have carefully navigate their way with a flashlight.

“We're almost there, just a few meters, Papa said, smiling at her.

“Stop right there, you're surrounded. A voice called out from the gloom.

He wanted her to understand him and join the cause.“But she had been so angry and clearly wanted nothing to do with him. She didn't understand that Papa's death was necessary. The tasks ahead were great. By killing Papa, he had absorbed his powers which he was not using anyways. “He would have died since his views were too idealistic for the Rebel movement.Papa had always been a leader and he would have formed a faction within the movement.“He Hassan had predicted all this and had chosen the better option of killing him now for the greater good. “If anything Fatima should be thanking him, " he thought, nodding his head. The Aged one had implied from the talk that they had that the key to the hidden underground library was with his father, the emperor. He had nearly given up when he had considered it at first. Finding the key seemed impossible, the emperor would not just leave the key laying around carelessly. He was a meticulous sharped eye man who was difficult in everything that he did. If there was one place the key would be, it was the emperor's bedchamber, he was sure of it. The room held a close place in the heart of the emperor who valued it above his children and he had repeatedly told the guards not to allow them to enter his room. He had bad memories of being sent away from the room while growing up. He had not given it much thought for a long tim
