8: Mistaken identity.

Vivian returned home, feeling annoyed at seeing Alex after all this while. She never knew he would defend himself like that.

However, she couldn't deny that she noticed a few changes in Alex, especially in his outer look. He looked sophisticated, smart and exude with confidence - things he never possessed before. What could be the reason?

What was even more disturbing was his last words. She wondered why that lingered in her mind, giving her a headache.

However, she shrugged it off and decided to think about the good things. Now that FarthestStone Enterprises was going to cooperate with her husband's company, their sales will rise again. This made her smile, sipping her juice on the dining table.

"Fuck!!!" Suddenly, a piercing scream from Daniel echoed in the living room, causing her to spit out the juice in her mouth in surprise.

She turned back to see how furious Daniel was, pacing around with his phone clutched to his ear.

"This isn't possible!" He roared, smashing the phone on the floor. Luckily, it didn't break. "How did this happen? What did I do wrong?" He asked himself, his face twisted with a mix of nervousness and anger.

He suddenly yelled her name. "Vivian! What the fuck did you do? What have you caused?!" He snarled, boiling.

Vivian hurried to his place, fear already overwhelming her. "Babe, what's the matter?"

"Everything is finished! All the shareholders have withdrawn their shares, even the most insignificant of investors have withdrawn their investments, and to make matters worse, the deal with FarthestStone Enterprises has been canceled! How all this happened in one night baffles me!"

He suddenly slammed her into the wall. "I vividly remember that I haven't offended anyone that would amount to this, so tell me Vivian who the hell did you offend? Huh? Fucking answer me!" His pitch rose with every word uttered.

Vivian, who was still struggling to recover from the bad news, cringed. "How dare you blame me? I'm surprised too! The turn of events also shakes me to the core!" Her eyes suddenly shot up, realizing the state they were now. "Oh no, everything is gone! We're penniless!" She pushed him away and sat on the couch, panting.

She couldn't believe this; just a moment ago, she was celebrating and now? Her life just turned to zero. This is not what she bargained for. She shook her head, hands folded across her chest.

"Did you offend the CEO in any way? Huh? Answer me woman!" Daniel yelled again as she flinched.

Vivian wanted to curse at him. "Why would you say such a thing when you know that I haven't met the owner yet? I haven't seen his face, so how would I offend him? By sending signals? Oh please, let's think of how we'll beg him and ask what went wrong!"

A thought came into her mind. 'Alex! Fuck it's Alex!' she said in thought. Of course, she had spilled a lot to him and he could have been responsible for it. She stood up and walked to Daniel.

"It's Alex! I'm sure Alex did this. He probably got angry and spread lies about us that reached the owner! If not, there is no way he would cut ties with our company just like that," she concluded, confidently sure of her theory. How dare that loser, Alex?

But Daniel was having none of her unreasonable bullshit. "Just shut the hell up! And be prepared to apologize to the owner; I discovered he is nicknamed 'The Great Master', so you can seduce him for all I care if that's what it will take. Just make sure to bring back the contract for signing!"

"What?" Vivian exclaimed. "You and I know that's never happening so let's act like couples and think of what to do! Daniel, that poor orphan must be dealt with; he thinks he can ruin me and go scot free, huh?" She fumed.

To her, Alex was the cause. He was the one she insulted that night and from the way he spoke back at her and threatened her, she had that feeling he was responsible. For Christ sake! It hasn't even reached half of twenty four hours that all ties were cut with their company! What sort of lie had Alex thrown that made the CEO do this in such a short time?

Now, she was not only set to know the type of lie he threw to him but also she will make him pay for it. She will make him a laughing stock to her peers and she was ready for it, deep down she didn't regret those words she said to him, she wished to do more.

In a luxurious penthouse, Alex stood in the lavish master bedroom, admiring himself in the full length mirror.

The lights accentuated his reflection, showcasing his expensive tailored suit and handmade Italian shoes.

Floor to ceiling windows framed the Manhattan skyline, light pouring in and highlighting the antique wooden floors.

"I wish you were alive to see me like this, Mom." A sad smile etched on his face. He wore his Rolex watch worth five hundred thousand dollars. A streak of tears rolled down his eyes as he missed his mother's presence.

Mr. Barney, who just entered, saw the tears and hurriedly used a plush face towel to wipe it. "I brought you good news!" he announced with a huge smile, handing over the tablet in his hand to Alex. It contained information that displayed everything about Daniel's family.

Looking at it gave Alex a smile. It was surely good news. Their sales were already so down, their company's income was drowning, and their debts accumulated. The loss of their shareholders was even more fun to Alex.

"The Great Master, do you think it's already enough? Because they are back to square one," Barney said, decanting Alex's favorite scotch into a glass for him.

"Enough?" Alex scoffed, adjusting his cufflinks. "That was just the beginning!"

"And I also have a request from you," he added, sipping his wine.

"Anything for The Great Master," he said with his head bowed.

"Don't reveal my face, my name or identity to them yet. She hasn't suffered enough to my taste. You see that wealth she is yearning for, she will never see it. She will experience what I had passed through and if I don't accomplish that then I'm not Alexander The Great."
