SET UP

Seth drove back home as instructed by his girlfriend with thoughts pulsating his mind, tapping the steering as he drove, almost getting his attention off the road.

All that clustered in his mind were thoughts of the consecutive events happening in his life, how he almost got killed every day since the death of his father Tony Milton. Who exactly was trying to kill him? Why were they trying to kill him? And why the sudden change in the attitude of his girlfriend Rose? And worst part was the frequent strange messages he was receiving.

Few months ago, his father died a mysterious death, his body was left in the middle of nowhere, shot on the head, and also bruised badly, investigations went through and findings amplified that his death was caused by an assassination, but it was impossible to know who exactly assassinated him because it was so mysterious. Picturing a man in his fifties named Tony Milton as an introvert with no allies, foes and family, let’s just say, a mysterious man dying a mysterious death.

Before he died, he told Seth to take care of himself, leave a good life, and get ready for the most shocking stage of his life, that he was going on a journey which he may not return from until they meet again. Up until the day Tony died, Seth never understood what he meant by that, but he inherited the same wars his father was fighting. Ever since the death of Tony Milton, he has been hustling for himself, trying to survive the harsh world, and make something good for himself and also running for his dear life, for reasons he knew nothing about.

Blue and red lights began waver amidst the street as Seth drove, and almost immediately, a loud sound clustered with Seth’s thinking faculty, catching his attention.

“Shit, men on black, but I was driving responsibly, why are they on my neck?” Seth pondered within himself, thinking of how he was going to get through them with no driver’s license.

They began to blink their head lights to the eyes of Seth as they noticed he wasn’t ready to pull over, Seth knew that was a warning and reluctantly pulled over.

“Good evening,” one of the cops walked up to the side were Seth was seated, with an uncomfortable demeanor that made Seth gulp his saliva.

“You’re driving late, can I see your license,” the good cop said in a calm and gentle demeanor.

“To be honest, I have no license,” Seth replied humbly, but the search dog which was present began to bark, alerting the cop that he smelled something fishy. The cop began to suspect Seth.

“Step out of the vehicle sire,” The cop spoke in a commanding tone.

“It hasn’t gotten to this officer,” Seth replied, the cop pulled out his gun, pointing it directly to the face of Seth.

“Get the fuck out of the vehicle mister,” He said with a hot demeanor, threatening to shoot Seth, setting Seth’s mind ablaze with his heart thumping ferociously.

Seth immediately stepped out of the vehicle with his hands above his head, just then, Clad pulled up, parking beside the scene as Rose steps out of the vehicle.

“What’s going on here officer?” Rose said in a worried demeanor.

“It’s none of your business ma’am, gentleman, please open the boot of this vehicle,” the cop said, still with his gun pointed at the back head of Seth.

“This is uncalled for officer, you could lose your job for this,” Rose bombarded.

Seth drastically opens the boot, afraid of being shot on the head, but knowing fully well that he had nothing on him.

Immediately, another cop began to scribble through the boot, looking for something which absolutely, in no order was meant to be in Seth’s vehicle.

Just then, the cop takes out a bag from the boot, and unzipped it.

Everyone was taken aback by what was found inside the bag, including Seth, who gasped at the sight of it.

“I can swear sire, that’s not mine,” Seth reported, with his knee caps vibrating in fear.

“Sire, you drove a vehicle with a bag filled with cocaine, and a gun, and you tell me it’s not yours,” the cop said.

“Rose, tell him it’s your vehicle and I was only taking it home as instructed,” Seth cried.

Rose just stood silently, gazing blankly at Seth.

“Ma’am do you know this man,” the cop queried, Rose demeanor drastically changed, she began to gaze at everyone.

“I don’t sire, he just looked like someone I knew, but he certainly isn’t,” Rose denied, and Seth was taken aback, wasn’t that Rose? Or is this all a set up?

“Then how come he mentioned your name,” the cop replied.

“Officer this is the well-known Rose Elanor, even the beggars on the streets are familiar with her, so you should recognize when a buffoon is trying to use her to gain fame,” Clad defended Rose who placed a fake smile at him.

“In fact, officer, here is five hundred dollars for doing a good job on catching people like this, we would need integrate people like you in this city,” Rose pulls out some hundred, dollar notes and placed it on the hand of the officer.

“Thanks ma’am, was only doing my job, cuff him,” the officer said, and then ordered his second to cuff Seth, Seth struggled but to no avail did he get free.

“Bloody criminal,” The other cop said.

“Rose, I can’t believe you are doing this to me, but why, let me go you son of a bitch,” Seth cried out, but the cops held him down, inserting the handcuff on him.

They cop then rumpled him into their vehicle and zoomed off.

“That will get that twat out of my hands for some time, thanks for that idea, I guess it really worked,” Rose said with a smirk present on her face, as she gazed at the vehicle, dashing into the city.

Why exactly would she do this to him?
