Thomas Kennedy, Julia's father, stepped on the stage, ready to deal with whoever had the guts to spoil his daughter's wedding ceremony.
"Dave Walters! Is this a joke? You know damn well that you can't abuse your authority in this way!"
"Daddy!" Julia suddenly ran towards her father, clutching his arm with a pitiful expression.
She whined,
"Daddy, he is just jealous because he is a loser whom I dumped! And now, he wants to take revenge from me by embarrassing our family in front of all our guests!"
Thomas glared at Dave, and if he could shoot missiles through his eyes, Dave would already be on his journey to the afterlife.
Seeing that Julia's family was getting riled up, Noah also decided to open his mouth, even though he was already getting anxious.
"Yes… yes! How can you expect us to believe that this is not an attempt to punish me for marrying Julia? I haven't done anything, so on what grounds are you arresting me?"
Without even giving Dave a chance to speak, Thomas began to berate him.
"I have seen many cheap, low class people like you in my life! The moment you get even a little bit of power in your hands, you let it influence all your actions and start soaring in the clouds.
But let me tell you, a little cop like you doesn't have any authority here! And if you don't let go of my son-in-law right now, even that little power will be snatched from your hands."
Esther, Julia's mother, also rushed forward and urged him,
"Dave, what are you trying to do? You can't handcuff him! I told my daughter that she was just wasting her time with a useless guy like you, and look! Even after she has realized her mistake and left you, you are here to trouble her! Stop being so desperate for attention…"
Esther was getting more and more panicked on seeing this drama, and could not stay silent any more.
Especially because of the many business contracts and collaboration projects their family corporation had been getting, just because Noah Stone was their son-in-law…
Esther had started to think that their company would bounce back from the brink of bankruptcy within just three months!
But now, if Noah became upset because of this drama and refused to marry her daughter, what would happen to their business?
Not to mention, it won't take any time for this news to spread, and then who would marry her daughter?
Nobody would pay attention to why the groom was arrested or what happened, everyone would just focus on the fact that she had been left at the altar.
Dave finally got a chance to speak, and he spoke in a completely calm tone;
"I am saying this for the last time, I have no concern towards what your daughter did in the past, or what she is doing in the future. I also don't care whether her groom is a prince or a pauper, I am only concerned about this individual named Dave Walters."
Peter stepped up in his defense,
"Yes, we are just detaining this individual because we need to question him regarding an ongoing investigation."
The entire room became quiet, as this statement could mean a lot of things… but Thomas Kennedy was not one to back away.
He said haughtily,
"And so what? Even if you want to question him for something, is this the only time you found to do it? During his wedding to my daughter?"
Dave replied without hesitation,
"Whether you believe it or not, we just got some evidence indicating his involvement. And according to law, we legally can't delay the proceedings by even a minute, so we had no choice but to come."
Thomas wasn't convinced, and said through gritted teeth,
"Oh really? Since when do the police have permission to arrest anyone without a warrant? You can't just take him there without any justification!"
By now, Julia was shedding crocodile tears, saying,
"Daddy… I don't know how, just ask him to release my husband! I have already been humiliated enough…"
Thomas became even angrier and demanded,
"What accusations are you slapping on him? Tell me, what are the charges on him, so that I can get my attorney to prove that they are fake and send you to jail at the earliest!"
Dave had a mocking smile on his face, as he had already noticed that Noah, who had been yapping some time ago, had gone completely silent all of a sudden.
He was showing clear signs of guilt, and Dave replied sarcastically,
"First of all, Mr. Kennedy! I don't have to prove anything to you, as I am just following my duty by taking him into custody. And secondly, why don't you ask your virtuous son-in-law what he has done? I am sure he would love to tell you!"
With this, all the eyes turned towards Noah, with expressions of curiosity, sympathy or suspicion from different people.
At first, Noah had been under the impression that Dave had just come there to try and convince Julia to leave him and marry Dave instead. And regarding that possibility, he wasn't worried at all.
Based on what Julia had told him about her ex-boyfriend, he knew that she would never choose a loser like that. But that bitch had never mentioned that her loser ex-boyfriend was a cop!
Otherwise, he would never have opted to marry her at all, and chosen someone else.
Still, he had tried to appear confident at first, thinking that maybe Dave was just bluffing and wanted to arrest him only for the sake of interrupting the wedding.
But the moment he said that they had got some evidence on him… his heartbeat almost stopped.
Although nobody knew it, his shirt was completely soaked in cold sweat, and he was starting to get really nervous on thinking that maybe, they were really aware of his criminal record…
But before someone could ask him anything, thankfully, Julia herself came to his rescue.
"You rascal! You need to end your stupid stunts, right now. Or you will end up paying for it badly!
You don't have any right to sling mud at my husband's reputation, he is a businessman and his public image matters a lot! So if you have any answer to the question, just say it, or get lost. Right, Noah?"
She looked at Noah for support, but he just hummed in response, without saying much. But Julie just assumed he was slightly nervous, and continued her rant.
"Don't think that we don't know anything about the law, you need to show us the evidence before you do anything!
Even if you drag him to the station, I will march right down and demand your supervisor to fire you for harrassing an innocent citizen! And I will make sure that you don't even get another job as a waiter in any corner of the country, until you are forced to beg!
But I won't let you take him in the first place! Darling, why don't you go ahead and tell him what a powerful man like you is capable of? Even your bodyguards can take care of a small little cop like him!
So then, why are you quiet? What are you waiting for, just something, and ask him to get lost!"
This time, Julia finally turned around and looked at Noah… and only now did ahe notice that his face had become completely pale, and his hand was shaking out of anxiety.
"What is wrong with you…"
She muttered, as a thought crossed her mind.
No… no it couldn't be possible… but why wasn't he defending himself then?
Had he actually done something…?
She looked at him with suspicions, and asked slowly,
"Whatever he has said, is it possible? Could it be…"
"Just shut your damn mouth!"
Julia was stunned to hear his stern scolding, as he always used to speak to her in a soft tone. But had he just asked her to shut up?! She was dumbfounded, wondering how the hell he had changed this much in just seconds! Meanwhile, Noah's fists were clenched in anger, and if he hadn't been handcuffed, he would have shut her up with a tight slap! Instead of feeling apologetic that he was in all this mess because of her, this girl was running her mouth to get him in more trouble?! "How dare you speak to my daughter like that?!" Before anyone could do anything, Thomas roared out. "Just be honest, have you been deceiving us all along? What have you done, answer me!" Noah was guiltily biting the inside of his cheek without saying anything. It wasn't just that he was embarrassed in front of everyone, but he also didn't want to say too much and get himself more tangled up in the web. But Dave was smiling sarcastically, understanding his thoughts. Even if Noah tried his best to hide
Dave came back to the present moment when he heard the screech of brakes of the police jeep, only to realize that they had arrived at the precinct.Feeling proud, he got down and escorted Noah out of the jeep, only to be greeted by his colleagues."I guess Dave finally opened his arrest record with a bang, huh?""Getting a high profile criminal and getting his revenge, now that's something else!""Yeah man, I guess all he needed to jump into action was a little push from our side!"By this time, they had entered the precinct, and Dave was enjoying the attention and flattery quite a bit.He handed Noah Stone over to one of the constables and instructed him to put him in lock- up."He is an A- list criminal from the auction theft, who managed to escape from prison. Lock him up for now, and we will be getting the statements from people tomorrow morning.""Yes sir!"The constable saluted him and led Noah inside, who felt even more humiliated, being dragged around like cattle."Leave me, y
Dave was feeling like everything he had done today, had amounted to nothing in the end. Before he could feel any worse about his fate, his phone began to ring. But the moment he saw his sister's name on the screen, he knew he had to compose himself. He never wanted to show his negative emotions or concerns in front of her, as he didn't want her to worry about him. "Hello?""Brother?" Her shaky voice echoed through the phone speakers, as if she was scared of something."Morgan? What's wrong?""Brother… can you please come and pick me up? I am near our school, just please come quickly…""Okay, I'll be there in no time. I'm just coming, don't be scared, okay? Whatever it is, I'll take care of it. "Saying this, he didn't even wait for a reply before he climbed behind the steering wheel of the police jeep and sped off to Claren High School, leaving his colleagues in confusion about what just happened. He didn't have much trouble in spotting them; as soon as he turned the jeep towards the
Tears started streaming down Morgan's face as she said,"I called you because I want to help my friend… but I don't want anything to happen to you!""Oh, Morgan… nothing is going to happen to me, just trust me. I know exactly how to handle such people. You trust your brother, don't you?"Morgan nodded even though her face was covered with tears, and Dave continued;"Then, be a good girl and listen to me carefully. Take your friend and go to my apartment, you already have the keys, right? Good. Neither of you are supposed to go to school until I tell you it is safe to, okay? And don't let your mind wander even for a second, I'm going to be perfectly fine, and so are you two. Understood? If anything happens, just call me."As soon as the girls' disappeared from Dave's sight, his anger returned with ten times the previous intensity. Yesterday, he had seen with his own eyes how the person on the most wanted list had gotten a chance to humiliate him in the police station, while his teamma
As soon as Matt managed to stand up on his own two feet, he ran towards Dave like an angry bull charging at his target. Although Dave managed to dodge his first attack, he gripped his collar and the two of them were locked in a struggle where each one was trying to push the other back. As the struggle intensified, the teacher, fueled by desperation, pulled out a gun from the pocket of his robe that was hanging loosely over his shoulders till now. "Get away from me, whoever the hell you are! You hear me? Stay away or I won't be responsible for the consequences!"He threatened while brandishing the gun menacingly. A cold shiver ran down Dave's spine as the weapon gleamed ominously in the light.Numb with shock, Dave hesitated for a moment… but just then, inspiration struck him as his hand reached into his pocket and gripped a cold blade. In one forceful arc, he hurled a knife towards Matt, who was not expecting this at all. The blade whizzed through the air, finding its mark with pre
As the teacher lay on the floor, taking his last breaths, a new announcement from the system rang in Dave's ears.[Ding! Host, you have completed the first level successfully. Access to the second level has been granted.][Congratulations! You have received one reward. Open it now?]Dave knew he just had to think about his answer in his mind, and the system would automatically follow the command. And that was exactly what happened, as the voice echoed;[Host, you have received power- up: Truth Sense. This ability will allow the host to find out if someone is lying, and help uncover their hidden motives.]The air in the room was weighed down by an eerie stillness, after Dave's tumultuous encounter with the high school teacher. Everything was too calm, with only the sound of the microwave going off in the background. Although a sense of relief washed over him, knowing that this leech won't be able to touch any other girl without her consent ever again, there was another unsettling real
After sending Morgan and Ivy to her room to start packing up, Dave went straight to the kitchen. He immediately got to work, making some hot tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. While he was working in the kitchen, he could hear the distant sounds of laughter coming from their room, over the music they were blasting on the speakers.Little by little, the burden of their trauma was lifting from his shoulders, and once he had plated the food, he called out;"Girls! Come out for dinner!""Yes, just coming!" Their voices echoed together as Morgan and Ivy ran out of her room.Seeing their faces, which were in complete contrast to the tear filled eyes he had seen earlier that day, Dave became content that they were alright now. And now, it was his responsibility to never let these carefree smiles vanish from their faces… thinking this, he left home again, saying that he would be back before long.He had already dealt with the teacher, unintentionally creating a mess at his place; and
As Dave left the teacher's house, a heavy sense of purpose accompanied him on the journey back to his own residence. Within the span of one night, he had experienced so many unsettling revelations that he wasn't even able to process everything yet, let alone decide whether it was a bane or a boon. The moon hung low in the night sky, casting its glow on the quiet streets as Dave navigated his way home. A distant breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, but it did little to soothe his disturbed mind. Upon entering his apartment, he was greeted by the faint aroma of dinner lingering in the air, and the soft hum of television running in the living room. Minutes after the door clicked shut, Morgan came into the hallway to see who it was. The concern on her face immediately melted into a smile of relief, as she saw that it was none other than her brother."You're back!""Yeah, did you guys finish packing yet?"Dave asked, ruffling his sister's hair softly."Almost… Ivy is still goi
