“Say what! Kubus! That notorious gangster in Gatto Republic. You know, the guy no one messes with and lives to tell the tale?”
Lord Walter’s request was clearly just a cruel trick to put Khloe in a terrible spot.
Kim, Khloe's mom, totally flipped out about her daughter even meeting Kubus, let alone asking for an old piece of land. “No, Father, that’s too risky! What if something awful happens to Khloe?” she cried.
Deborah put on a fake, concerned face. “Aunt Kim, it’s totally fine if she doesn’t want to go. But you and your family can kiss any hope of ever getting back into the family good graces goodbye for the rest of your lives.”
At that, Khloe and her parents went ghostly pale. Khloe was totally stuck. Her dad, Hector, couldn’t hold back his tears.
Then Quincy quietly squeezed her hand and whispered, “Khloe, take the deal.”
She pretended not to hear him and picked up Ashley, who was totally zonked and looked like she was about to tumble off the chair. Khloe gently settled the little girl on her lap.
Quincy tapped her again. “Khloe, trust me. Say yes, and I’ll help you get that debt sorted out.”
Seeing the pure confidence on Quincy’s face, Khloe hesitated. She thought about how bad things were for her family right now, and honestly, she had no choice. She took a deep breath, stood up, and said, “Grandfather, I’ll go and get the land back.”
“You ridiculous girl! Are you nuts? What if that gangster shreds you to pieces?” Kimberly Walter practically panicked.
Everyone there was shocked—even Lord Walter. Nobody expected Khloe to actually take on the challenge.
Charles marched over to Quincy, grabbed his shirt collar, and started yelling furiously. “How could you do that? How could you send her? I heard you whispering to her to go demand the land from Kubus! Are you an idiot?” He whipped around to face Lord Walter. “Grandfather, shouldn’t we finalize the divorce today? So he doesn’t think he has any right over Khloe?”
Quincy shoved Charles away. He pushed him so hard that Charles nearly smashed his head into a fancy decorative pillar, if Vincent hadn’t grabbed him just in time. Quincy just glared coldly at them. They were acting like clowns, and he wasn't going to waste time arguing. He took Khloe’s hand, and they left the mansion.
Meanwhile, a little ways into town, Khloe was holding two bags of fruit and giving Quincy some serious reminders. “Look, remember this: watch your mouth, keep your temper in check, and don’t speak unless someone talks to you first.”
Quincy simply nodded. Khloe felt a tiny bit relieved.
Just as they were about to knock on Kubus’s huge, intimidating gate, a series of unbelievably loud, annoying honks sounded right behind them.
A pink Porsche screeched to a halt next to them. The window rolled down, and there was Deborah’s smug, mean face. “Geez, so you two are actually here to try and get the land back? I thought you were just all talk!”
“Deborah, what are you doing here?” Khloe frowned, totally fed up with her cousin.
“I’m here to buy a house, duh. Unlike you two, who are dumb enough to come here knowing this guy is going to beat you to a pulp.” Deborah was wearing sunglasses that just made her look even more arrogant.
“After you two left, Grandfather handed out the bonus money to everyone. We all got an extra two million this year, and I’m buying a penthouse as a birthday gift to myself. Unlike you and your useless husband, who probably can’t even afford to buy you flowers on your birthday.”
Khloe’s hands balled into fists hearing Deborah. She was shaking slightly with anger.
Quincy just grinned and scoffed. “Deborah, it’s only two million. What’s the big deal? Galumation Investment Company hates people who show off over small money, like you. Don’t even think about getting their investment.”
“Meow!”
Deborah was furious. She sneered. “You loser, you can actually talk now? Save your pathetic advice for when you’re inside dealing with Kubus.” She got out of the car and strutted right into Kubus’s office. Quincy and Khloe followed her in.
They walked into a massive, spacious office. Inside, a man with a ridiculous, flamboyant gold necklace was sitting at a desk. There was a receptionist, and inside his actual office, there was a young girl, maybe eighteen, sitting right on his lap while his hands were all over her body.
The horrible scar across his face was enough to scare anyone off easily. The sight of the uninvited guests made Kubus immediately snap. He roared, “Who the hell are you? Get out of my sight! Can’t you see I’m busy?” The guy was just as fierce as the rumors said.
Kubus’s shout made Deborah start sweating nervously. She stammered, “K… Kubus, I’m Deborah. My husband Vincent told me to come see you about buying a house in your estate.”
Hearing the name Deborah, Kubus raised his eyebrows and instantly swapped his annoyance for a huge smile. “Deborah Walter? I see. Welcome, please, have a seat.”
He’d actually gotten a call from Vincent telling him Deborah was coming. Since it was a request from a top-tier family, he had to be polite. He loved dealing with customers from powerful families; it was his way of getting cozy with the billionaires.
“And who are these two?” Kubus asked, spotting Khloe and Quincy still standing at the door.
Seeing Kubus’s sudden change of mood, Deborah felt totally relaxed. She started running her mouth, desperate for attention. “Kubus, you know about the Walter family’s old land property? These two are here to try and get it back. But don’t worry, I have nothing to do with this drama. I’m here to buy my own penthouse, I don’t have time for their nonsense.”
“I see.” Kubus nodded, leaning back in his chair, staring at Khloe and Quincy with his sharp, bulging eyes.
“I can’t believe the nerve of you two. You actually have the audacity to come here and demand that land back? You’ve got guts. A whole lot of them.”
Khloe shivered under Kubus’s icy glare. She took a slow step back and tried to reason with him. “Kubus, we really, really need that land. It would solve so many problems for my family.”
“What does your family’s problems have to do with me?” Kubus scoffed scornfully. “The land is mine, period. I said I’m not giving it up, and that’s final. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.”
Khloe’s lips curled in despair, and her eyes were filling with hopelessness.
Then Quincy spoke up. “Since when did you, Kubus Chim, have control over the land in Gatto Republic?”
Kubus was shocked that Quincy used his full name. He gave a cold grin and said impatiently, “Listen, you idiot, do you have any idea what you’re saying?”
Some documents were brought out for Deborah to sign, and she was given a sleek laptop to pick out her dream house.
Khloe went pale. She anxiously tugged on Quincy’s sleeve, desperately signaling him to shut up.
Quincy wasn’t bothered at all. He kept going. “Am I wrong? The land belongs to Lord Walter, but Innocent Chim intimidated him and just took it.”
Kubus works for Innocent, and Innocent used to work for Scot. Kubus was instantly enraged by the disrespect, but he held it back. His eyebrows furrowed as he asked, “You know my boss?”
“I don’t,” Quincy answered flatly. He really didn’t need to know someone who was just a subordinate to his own people.
“You don’t? Are you messing with me?” Kubus bellowed, his face turning nasty.
Deborah, after finishing the house selection and transferring the one million dollars, fanned the flames from the side. “Kubus, how could he possibly know Innocent? This is Quincy Stone, the idiot who married into our family.”
“A guy who married into the Walter family!” Kubus widened his eyes in disbelief. At that moment, his anger exploded, as if he’d been personally insulted. He cracked his knuckles, glaring viciously at Quincy.
“Fine,” Kubus gritted his teeth. “It’s been years since someone tried to mess with me like this!”
Deborah was totally thrilled that Kubus was so angry. She was sure this was the end of the man she called an idiot.
Khloe didn't know what to do. She tried her best to reason with Kubus. “Please sir, Quincy didn’t mean to be disrespectful. Please forgive him.”
Kubus completely ignored her. He raised his hand, and more than a dozen fierce, deadly-looking men instantly rushed into the office. Khloe could barely stand still when they flooded in. Luckily, Quincy held her steady.
“Kubus, you’re scaring my wife,” a dangerous vibe radiated from Quincy as he narrowed his eyes.
Kubus didn’t notice Quincy’s sudden, quiet anger. He yelled, “So what if I did? You messed with me, so don’t think you’re walking out of here in one piece!” Meanwhile, his men were just waiting for the order to jump Quincy.
Just then, Kubus’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and was completely stunned. He rushed into an inner office and answered the call. His mood changed instantly.
“Boss? What’s the problem? There’s a man and a woman in my office right now, and the man has the family name Stone.”

AT THE RESTAURANT
Sonia stared across the table at Deborah, the expensive crystal glass of water suddenly feeling heavy in her hand. The restaurant, though almost empty, seemed to amplify the silence hanging between them. Trail and monitor Vincent. You have just two months. I will pay you any amount of your choice. On one side, a whopping five million dollars had already landed in her bank account from Vincent to spy on Deborah. On the other, Deborah, eyes glinting with a dangerous mix of desperation and malice, was offering an open cheque to spy on Vincent. This is a crossroad for Sonia, she thought, the cliché ringing true in the dizzying reality of her situation. She wasn't just entangled; she was standing in the middle of a high-stakes, two-sided war, and both generals wanted her as their mole."Any amount of your choice, Sonia. Name it," Deborah pressed, her voice a low, urgent whisper that sliced through the restaurant's quiet ambiance. "And I assure you, it will be more than enough to make you f

That image of Deborah peeking through her window, followed by the instant, sharp text: "Don’t play with me." It was a threat, a promise of trouble, and it was hard to shake.Inside, the house was huge and empty. White marble floors stretched out under high ceilings. Everything looked expensive, but nothing looked warm or lived in.Vincent stopped in the hallway. He turned her to face him, his hands resting on her shoulders. He noticed the serious look on her face, the way her eyes kept darting around instead of set

She didn't want to rush such a big decision. However, Deborah didn’t have the patience to wait.“Look, Sonia, just watch what Vincent does and tell me about it every day. You won’t be doing it alone—I’m also going to hire a private investigator to help,” Deborah assured her. That sounded much better, and because of the offered help, Sonia agreed to spy on Vincent.“When he comes around, ask him questions and be curious,” Deborah added.Sonia accepted the job, but she
