Hunt for heirloom

Curtis was still admiring the young boy who looked at him, hinting something meaningful. When a thick black smoke began to enter from the open windows as if it had known its direction.

'What tricks are they trying to pull?' Zaiden panicked but apparently seemed calm knowing that they wouldn't kill him. The smoke coming inside from each window concentrated and began to take the form of a human body.

Zaiden was still seated in the chair while Curtis was driven to the edge of his seat. 'Smoke? So, is this their way of travelling? Dissipation of the body into smoke and flying through the sky.'

He derived the theory seeing that five men were formed from that particular black smoke. 'Interesting but dangerous.' Zaiden knew that smoke and water were two elements which couldn't be actually stopped. And thus, the vampires could successfully intrude in the premises.

That's how the nurse was aware of the vacancy and applied for it by successfully hiding her identity. "Zaiden Rivers." The voice resonated from his left side where a tall man stood with his chin high and a smiling face.

Raizel Lancaster strode towards him and slightly bowed to the young boy, while Zaiden mimicked the action out of courtesy. "Count Lancaster. Finally." Zaiden let out a smug expression for finally luring out the count. And he immediately could sense that the man was the actual heir.

Clad in a black suit with a long coat and expensive broach on his chest, the man shrieked of aristocracy. Zaiden had analysed him from head to toe while he gestured him to sit. Curtis remained standing by his master's side in order to reduce the distance between both of them. Of course, he needed to remain closer to protect him.

"My sincerest apologies but it was a matter of my safety." Raizel spoke with a soft laugh knowing that his pawn had caused the knot of distrust. But he felt obligatory to explain the reason why there had to be two Lancaster heirs.

Zaiden Rivers smiled and leaned on the table whereas Curtis  was occupied with the keen eye-search of the men. "I understand, count." He replied to make the atmosphere comfortable since their meetup wasn't supposed to turn into a battlefield.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." Raizel could sense some strange aura from the young boy which was neither human nor a vampire scent. And it made him even more puzzled that maybe the information he got was wrong.

"Now without beating around the bush, why did you want to see me?" Zaiden Rivers was curious and this time he didn't bother to hide it. It brought a smile over Raizel' face and began to speak, with a deep inhale to analyse the boy's scent.

"Very well, as you see Zaiden you have been recklessly slaughtering my people," Raizel paused for a moment to witness any sort of changing emotion on his face. Perhaps he wanted to see fear and panic after getting caught by a powerful person. But to his amusement Zaiden was calmly hearing him.

"We want to make a deal, a pact with you to stop this massacre." Curtis was relieved after hearing those words that despite the killings they were ready to make peace.

'Come on, master. Accept the offer, ask them to elucidate.' The bodyguard didn't want the boy to impulsively stir a cross-species war, because no matter how advanced technology they were using; humans were still unaware of the vampiric magic!

"I am interested to hear the proposal." Zaiden spoke with confidence while Raizel leaned on the table to get a better sniff.

'God no! No, no.' Curtis held the chair in disbelief, acknowledging that Zaiden' statement was hollow. The boy was not going to step back at any cost when he had finally started to gain some success.

"We are willing to give you a fat amount in exchange for stepping back." Raizel threw the words at him while interlacing his fingers. Zaiden scoffed and then burst out in a soft chuckle.

"I'm sure you have been filled in with all the information about me, count." The young boy mocked him. "And I'm certain you are joking with me with that useless proposal." No wonder Zaiden didn't lack money or status.

Count Raizel chuckled. "Then what do you require?" Zaiden knew this was his chance to seize anything. Meanwhile Curtis curled his fingers into fists clasping the gun tightly. He knew that the words were the signal to get ready to fight.

"That ring with a big sapphire gem on your index finger!" Zaiden Rivers pointed out at the ring which infuriated the man.

"You insolent brat!" Raizel shot up from his seat in rage hearing that Zaiden had demanded the heirloom. It was a disgrace for him to lose it and that too...to someone who was a suspicious human!

He charged at Zaiden with his body transforming into black smoke with only Raizel' face visible. When Zaiden felt a gush of waves in his brain and the heat rose in his body. Before he could reach for Zaiden' neck to strangle him with his grown nails and strong grip, the boy's eyes turned blood red!

As soon as Raizel lunged with the intention to attack at Zaiden, he attempted to grab his neck to twist him like a twig. The boy's eyes turned red and Zaiden couldn't move from his place but the attack was blocked by a circular plate.

The loud thud sound brought Zaiden back in the present, when he deciphered that the artificially made shield had blocked the attack. Raizel had never extended anything like that although he thought that Curtis would do something.
