She adjusted her pink gown and took two steps backward on her pink heels.
"We can... " She turned and made for the door. Her hair was strapped in a bun with a pink bow. I didn't need to think twice to realize that the wardrobe was hers.It took me less than fifteen minutes to get to the eatery. All I did was put on a jacket, pick up my phone, and make for the door.I arrived by three pm, which was an hour behind the schedule we made."Hi, Dave." I tapped him from behind. He instantly looked back, his eyes locked on mine."Kerah..." He stood up from the chair and flung his arms around me in a tight hug. "I have missed you so much, best."I made the right decision to come to see him, Instead of staying with Annie. I could die for all I care, my relationship with him mattered more than anything including death. He was my only true friend, the rest were acquaintances. And if I was going to die, I might as well spend the last few weeks with those I love."Here, sit!" He pulled the chair opposite his, backward, and motioned for me to sit down. He was the perfect gentleman. He always was, even in high school, he would open the door to his Prado for me to go in before he would settle down in the driver's seat to take me home. Not once did he not hold my purse, whenever we went shopping."Thank you, Dave." I smiled generously. A glance at the menu reminded me that I was yet to have breakfast, and it was already past three pm. "I hope you have enough money on you because I am famished best." He smiled and nodded yes. I went ahead and ordered a sumptuous meal of spaghetti, and meatballs, with orange juice. We sat quietly, we were both enjoying the meal. "San lenicho always has the best food." Davey broke the silence."Tell me about it." I had finished eating and was wiping my mouth with tissue paper. "Thank you for the meal." I smiled curtly."It's nothing." He returned the smile. We talked about a lot of things and caught up on lost time. By exactly four pm, I left the restaurant for home."I had so much fun today, Dave." I was hugging him. "I promise not to get too busy for you ever again." I knew I was lying. Anxiety had already begun to creep in, and all I could think of was Annie and the curse."It's okay, best. Since you don't want to tell me what's going on, I guess I will just let you be." I was grateful he didn't pester me like he always did. I disentangled from the hug and headed inside my house. David had dropped me off at home, and it was such an exciting drive.I turned around and waved goodbye, my heart was clouded with thoughts. What if Annie was mad at me?The one time she decided to show up in her true form, I had walked out on her. What was I thinking?I did enjoy the company of Davey, and the smile I had plastered on his face was stuck in my head while I walked home, but the moment I had left him, all I could think of was my sad reality, my evil mother, and my even more sad end.I got home before it was five pm, and showered.I lay on my bed, thoughts kept flashing into my mind. I couldn't help it, I tried getting rid of them, but it wasn't working. I picked up my phone and began to watch movies. That was undoubtedly a great getaway for me.A knock on the door distracted me. I was so lost in the movie, and it has amazing cliffhangers, I didn't want to pause it."Who is there?" I finally asked. No response came. The door was flung open, and my whole family stood in front of me. I sat up.That was strange. My parents would never have a family meeting except if it's something extremely important. And for my mother to be part of it, it meant it was as important as my situation."Issssss everything okay..." I dropped my phone and shifted my gaze completely to them."Yes, yes! Kerah." My father was trying to lie. I knew it when he was trying to lie, anyone could guess that he was trying to lie because he was terrible at it. "Everything is fine. " His eyes gave him away. There was fear in it."Mom, Kain? Anything you guys aren't telling me?""Yes, kerah!" Kain ambled closer to me. "You have tried so hard to keep it to yourself, but we know about it now. And we are going to help you."I sat there dumbfounded, unable to say anything. What did he mean by that? If it was what I was thinking, then he had discovered the curse, and that wasn't funny. "What do you mean by that?" My voice had no strength in it, but I needed an answer to the numerous questions that ran through my mind."What I mean is that we know about you and Anabel." He sat on the bed, next to me, and held my hand. My father and mother moved closer to us."Mom, Dad, please excuse us." He shifted his gaze from me to the both of them."Dad can stay. Mom should excuse us." I looked in the direction opposite to theirs, to avoid eye contact with my mother. I didn't care how she felt. I had forgiven her, but It wasn't safe for me to talk about it with her as part of my audience. When I knew she was part of my problem.Kain adjusted on the bed and gave my mom an uncomfortable stare. "Uhm, Please excuse us." She walked out quietly, without uttering a word. I saw tears escape her eyes, and I sighed. She was abou
Chapter…Kerah's POV I didn't plan to, but I made Anabel mad at me, and she swore never to help me again. While mourning the fact that I was completely hopeless if she left, I also pissed off my best and "only" Friend, and I was hoping he hadn't done something stupid as a result of it. As if that was not enough to worry about, the room that I had discovered inside the attic was securely locked when I went to check this morning. All the efforts I had been making had been a complete waste, I was back to square zero. I was tired of trying, at this point, all I wanted to do was to die.If it were about me, I didn't mind failing myself. I had done that countlessly before, anyways. If it were about dying, I was no longer scared of death. Not one bit. But it wasn't about me, it was about my late sisters. They were believing in me to do what they hadn't achieved. it was about Kain's children, and about any other girl that would be a descendant from our lineage. I needed to do this for them.
Mr. Skanda POV.I sat in my bedroom, alone. It was one of those nights I spent in tears, one of those nights that I couldn't bring myself to fall asleep. No man would be able to fall asleep when his house was on fire, and it was surprising how my wife slept like a baby next to me.I was unsure if she knew what was going on. Everyone in the house was counting down on the days our only surviving daughter had on earth, except her. she was still her usual moody self, she didn't even care to spend extra time with Kerah, and neither did she care to find a way to help. I looked at her through the dark, she was snoring lightly. I could make out her full frame on the bed, and that was all thanks to the nightwear that she had on. It was a white nighty. She stirred a little bit and then resumed her position again. She was enjoying her sleep, it used to be a beautiful sight to behold. Usually, I'd give her a peg on her cheeks, or smack her buttocks. But not anymore. She was an awful parent for s
Kain's P.O.V I got to school on the bus, I wore a sullen look. I greeted the teachers with a frown, and even forgot to say hi to my girlfriend."Are you okay?" Sally was my best friend and my girlfriend. And she was the only one who dared to get close to me on days when I wasn't in the mood to talk."I'm fine." Before I looked up, I was encompassed by the beautiful smell of rose perfume she had smeared on her clothing. She was dressed in the orange dress I got her for valentine, and she still had the necklace I put around her neck."No, you are not! Baby, I want to know what is going on, Kain." She sat next to me and held my hands with hers. "What is going on?" Her eyes were getting watery, and her voice shook. I knew I had to speak or compound my problems. If I dared not to open up to Sally about anything, she would be moody for days, if not weeks."Sally, what I'm about to tell you right now is private, and a family issue. It shouldn't be heard outside." She gasped, and spoke up, I
Kain POV.Sally and I stood at the gate that led to the public cemetery. I held her hands, and we paddled into the silence. All we could hear were birds chirping, and one of the sounds stood out from the rest. It made Sally hold onto me firmly, and squeeze my hands. It was the hooting of owls. "What do you want with these bodies, are you kids not gonna let them dead people rest?" We turned unanimously and met with the gatekeeper. "What are you doing here with your chick?" He strolled towards us. I shared a glance with Sally. "Good evening, sir." I smiled nervously. "What you want?" He ignored me. "My name is Kain, and I'm here because I want to meet with my sister."The gatekeeper was standing hands akimbo, he stared at me through the medicated glasses that hung on his nose. Under his eyes. His bulging stomach and short stout nature made him look funny. He was well above sixty, I guessed from the grey hair that adorned his partly bald head. He was putting on sparkling white short
Kerah's Pov"Thank you so much for loving me, Davey. I love you. Thank you for the memories we made together, thank you for the happiest days of my life. I have limited time with you before I give up the ghost. When I do, please do not miss me much, I have tried to change fate, but it seems impossible. So, dear! I love you and I will think about you, even in the land of the dead." I sent it to Davey, while we were in the middle of a conversation, on Whatsapp."What do you mean Kay, are you okay?" He sent it with a laughing emoji. He wasn't wrong for disbelieving me, I used to prank him so much. Sometimes, I would tell him things that made him cry, other times, I told him things that made him laugh. And in the end, it would turn out to be a prank. That one time I told him that we were moving out of town. I made everything look real, and we had three dates, in three days, in a row. He took me to virtually every fun place, and to all the places we made all our memories together, and on t
After I showered and brushed, I headed for Julianne's house. The last time we met, was in this city, in the then-famous eatery, "cruise la faire." It was there she had broken the news to me, that she was pregnant. Her house was a block away from the eatery, we met there just once. When she wanted to introduce me to her parents. I could find my way to the house, though it's been over thirty years since we visited that place. Since that day, I had been in their neighborhood a few times, but never in that house. I wanted to speak with my ex, but I didn't know where she was lying. I had no choice but to go back to their home.I rang the doorbell, and a young boy opened it. He looked ten or eleven years old."Hello, boy." I smiled at him, he had Julianne's eyes, and a smile, evident on her face."Hello, sir. Who are you looking for?" "I want to speak with Julianne's mother." I raised a brow at him when I had said that, he wouldn't know who I meant by Julianne's mother, and I couldn't re
After school the next day, I held Sally's hand, and we walked to the bus. She didn't get into too much trouble yesterday, because she didn't take much time. But this time around, she might never go back home. I found a map in the attic that showed the way to where the family graveyard. All my sisters were buried in the family graveyard, so it wasn't going to take me long to find her."Did you take permission from your mom for today?"She nodded no. I sighed with relief, I didn't want stories spreading that she got missing after we both went out."So, no one knows you are with me?" She nodded no again."But you do know a lot of people saw us coming in here, right?""Yh, I know." It dawned on me that I had done something very stupid. So many people saw us on our way here, so I wasn't going to go Scott free just in case anything went wrong with her. "That's not a problem, you know.".We paddled into the cemetery again, and silence greeted us. We looked in the direction of the little hous
