Chapter 6

“Are you kidding me?!”

Aiden was stunned at the stipulation that his relative, President Maxwell had arranged for him.

He had heard of arranged marriages and how it was peculiar to the wealthy in the society.

However, he never thought that it would apply to him at all in his life.

"President Maxwell is dead, and I should be allowed to choose whom I want to get married to, even if that's the clause to the inheritance." married to her?" Aiden looked pointedly from Dakota to Brandy.

"That is the instruction in the will," Dakota stated curtly.

Aiden stood up from where he sat and paced about the office.

All his life, he had struggled for everything that he wanted. At this time, when he had the opportunity to bask in the abundance of wealth he did not have to struggle for, there was a condition attached.

He could not help but believe that life had been unfair to him in so many ways.

"Why do I have to marry this girl in particular?" He asked them.

Brandy looked at Dakota as though he sought some sort of rescue before he looked at Aiden.

"It's a long story," he began.

"It's always a long story," Aiden began chuckling lightly. "A long story that I am not part of, so why do I have to bear the brunt? Why must I always be at the verge of consequences?" He asked.

"Boss, it's no consequences, it's just the foundation of this new life you are about to start enjoying," Brandy finally said.

This time, he spiked up Aiden's interest. "Ok, I'm all ears."

"Some years ago when the Cox consortium was just a start-up, it required some funds that the banks were not willing to give to him because he had no collateral to back it up," Brandy paused and looked at Aiden.

"Master Gabriel, Benita's grandfather, saw a certain level of potential in him during a random presentation, and agreed to help him with some funds,"

"In return for the favor, President Maxwell decided that his heir would get married to Master Gabriel's granddaughter for a lifelong deal."

"However," Brandy began again. "They knew they would not be here for too long to ensure that this happened, so they set out an ultimatum," he paused and slipped a paper across to Aiden.

"They decided that a marriage must be for you to get access to the consortium as his only surviving heir, one that can only be dissolved after a year," he finally finished

"So I am guessing that Benita is my future wife?" He asked.

"That is right," Brandy agreed.

Aiden thought hard about this new situation of things. He could either walk away or agree to the terms of the inheritance.

He did not want to get married to someone that he did not know or was not in love with. On the other hand, he thought that it was a good deal. He could endure for a year, which did not seem like a long time to him.

One year was just a test and a short time to fall in love with a person to spend your whole life with them.

It was what he wanted with Alice, but she had broken his trust and broken his heart as well. It was going to be difficult for him to feel that way for anyone again.

"We will be waiting on your decision, sir?" Dakota asked, interrupting his train of thought.

Aiden let out a deep breath before he answered.

"I will do it," he stated firmly.

Dakota smiled as he took out the files that contained the agreement and presented it before Aiden.

Aiden went through it and when he was sure that it was exactly what they had explained to him, he signed it immediately.

"One more thing!" Dakota said. Aiden turned to him, quite surprised. Even Brandy had no idea that there was more to the agreement.

"What is it again?" Aiden asked impatiently.

"Throughout the one-year testing period of this marriage, Benita must not know that you are the heir to the Cox consortium."
