When Ms. Precious returned to the office, she was surprised to still see Elvis seated with his legs across the other.
"You said you wouldn't be here when I return." She said, flopping on her seat."I changed my mind. Do you have a problem with that?" He asked, raising his brow at her."Not at all." She replied, chuckling softly. After a brief silence, she cleared her throat to get his attention and when she did, she pushed her hair behind her ears."Aren't you going to tell me what happened? Your neck is still reddened. Who tried to kill you?" She asked, her face masked with worry. As if that was not enough, she left her seat then went to his side, "Tell me, it's time we involve the police because the next time the perpetrator will kill you." She said,"I don't think so." He said, chuckling as the discomfort Silas would probably be facing at the moment."It's not funny. Please tell me what happened so in case your father asks I will have an answer to give him." She said, towering above him with her hands across her chest."If I rather ask, tell him I said, I'm a grown man and can handle myself.""Elvis… stop acting this way. The more I see your red neck, the more nervous I become." She mumbled. At that instant,he pulled his shirt up to cover the bruise. Infact, the reason why he was still in the office was because of it. He wanted the redness to reduce a bit before he embarked on his trip to the hospital."Are you still nervous?" He asked."Come on, why are you so casual with all these? We are talking about your health here… I mean your life." He scowled."Fine. Silas did this to me." He revealed seeing that she wouldn't stop bugging him until he spilled."What?" She gasped, covering her mouth with both hands. "Was he trying to kill you or something?" She scowled."Don't reveal my identity to anyone, keep me hidden.""Yeah." She nodded as she returned to her seat. "I'm glad you asked me to send him a sack letter. You wouldn't believe he was molesting the workers under him. Finally, there will be peace and tranquility in the accounting department." She reeled."I'm not surprised." He replied inaudibly as he resumed flipping through the document.Several minutes later, a distress knock was heard and after exchanging glances with Ms. Precious, Elvis dashed into the bathroom. He didn't want anyone to see him in the presidential office."Please come in." Ms. Precious invited and almost immediately, the door creaked open, revealing Silas who stormed in with his face masked with anger."Mr. Silas… you don't look well." She said, pretending to be unaware of the current situation on ground."What was my offense?" He barked."I don't know. The president asked me to hand over a letter to you. What was the content if I may ask?" She asked, pushing her hair behind her ears."I was relieved of my job for no reason.""What?" Ms. Precious gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. Meanwhile, Elvis was resting against the door with a smirk on his lips. He really wanted to see Silas reaction but couldn't, else his cover would be blown."Can I speak with the president? I need an explanation for this.""I'm sorry but the president doesn't want to see anyone for the moment. Don't worry, I will pass your message to him and whatever he says, I will text you via email." She said,"Please do, I will appreciate it." He said solemnly."I will. I'm sorry for the inconvenience."A few minutes after he left,Elvis walked out of the bathroom then placed the documents on her desk. "I'm done. Kudos to you too." He winked."It's nothing.""Don't forget to send the email right now.""I'm on it." She replied, flopping on her seat as she pushed the laptop to herself. After one last look at his reflection on his phone screen, he turned towards Ms. Precious."Done." She said, with a broad smile as she rubbed her hands in glee. She was glad that Silas was fully out of the company, the rumors about his brutality was already a rumor outside the office but because of the president's absence, nothing had been done."Kudos." He winked again before he stepped out of the office. With his hands tucked into his pocket, he made his way towards the elevator. He was already out of the elevator on the ground floor when the janitor from earlier pointed towards him."He was the man Silas assaulted earlier." He announced it to his colleagues. Slightly embarrassed, he increased his pace but they soon caught up with him."His neck isn't red again. You would have seen him…""I'm fine now." Elvis interrupted the janitor. He had sighted Silas and he wanted to make a little fun of him before he left for the hospital."Glad you are. Guess what, he is no longer the head of the accounting department. In Fact, the president sacked him without stating his reasons." The janitor reeled, excitement coursing through his body. His colleagues too were excited."That's so unfortunate." Elvis replied, pretending to be hurt."Unfortunate you mean? Don't say that again. If only he crossed paths with him again, you would be the happiest person when the news of his sack gets to your ears." He scoffed."Everyone hide, Silas Deane is coming." Someone yelled out of the blue. Instead of everyone scrambling like before, they all stood in their positions as they laughed and pointed at him.Silas, shame-faced , began to run out of the building but the crowd chased after him. Slightly disappointed since he was unable to mock Silas, Elvis just shrugged then resumed his walk. When he got to the hospital, after speaking with his mother in the private ward, he went to see his father. He had barely taken his seat at the foot of the bed he was lying on when his father said, "Thank you son.""What for?" Elvis asked with a raised brow."Taking over the company of course. Don't worry, it wouldn't be a hard task for you. Ms. Precious is going to help and guide you all through the way.""But dad, I should be looking for ways to bring you and mom back to a healthy life.""I already told you to leave the job to the doctors. You aren't one so you shouldn't bother yourself about our wellbeing. We are doing just fine." He said, pulling himself up."I hope you don't expect me to sit back at the office and watch the doctors find a cure for you and mom's illness.""Of course, that's their job and as the newly appointed president, you have to focus on your job and ensure a smooth running of the organization." He said.Scrunching his face in anger, Elvis turned around and in the process revealed his reddened neck. He had managed to mask it so well from his mother but had failed now that he was with his father."And what happened to your neck? Did you get into a fight?" His father asked, startling him. It took all that he had in him not to give himself away."It's not that father." He chuckled lightly, trying to come up with a lie for him."Tell me, what happened then?""I was trying to fix my tie but someone, I got stuck and I was struggling…""What? How many times have I asked you to be careful? You would have killed yourself, thanks to your carelessness." He scowled."I'm sorry father." He said, his gaze fixed on the wall."I should be the one to be sorry. Did your mother see it?""She didn't.""Don't lie to me.""I'm being sincere here. She didn't.""Thank goodness. I was already getting scared she would start worrying. Please be careful, okay.""Yes, I will." He said and after spending the next twenty minutes by his side, he rose."I should be on my way now." He said."Yeah. Take care of yourself." His father called after him."I will." He already had his hand wrapped around the knob of the door when he turned around swiftly then made quick strides towards his bed."Promise me one thing." He said."What's it?""You wouldn't call Ms. Precious to inquire about me and when she calls you won't ask after me.""Why?""Because it's embarrassing. I'm grown now." He said with a pitiable voice to convince him."Okay. I promise.""Thank you." He replied with a broad smile and after placing a quick kiss on the back of his father's palm, he left the private ward.Still smiling, he made his way out of the hospital then flagged down a cab. Just as he was about to tell the driver his destination, his eyes fell on Sarah, sitting in the owner's seat of the cab.Sarah flipped her hair to a side with a broad smile on her face. She knew Elvis had seen her and so she wanted him to be aware she had seen him too. "Mister, your direction." The cab man said, breaking the uncomfortable silence in the car. "Is she your passenger too?" He asked, nodding at Sarah. "Of course I am. Am I posing a threat to you?" She asked with a light chuckle."I'm sorry, I will pass." Elvis said hurriedly and even before the cab man could say a word, he had stuttered out of the car. Clenching his fists, he began to walk down the road with a scowl on his face. The least person he wanted to see was Sarah but there she was — smiling back at him. "I should have looked properly before boarding." He snapped, fist pumping the air. "Hey, be careful. Do you want to hit me?" Sarah asked, jolting Elvis in the process and making him stop on his track. Frowning, he swirled in her direction, "Why?" He asked with a large scowl. "What are you talking about?" "You ought to be in
Elvis sighed in frustration as the shop owner raked him from his head to his feet. He knew exactly what the shop owner was thinking and the more time he spent looking back at him, the more he became angry. "Please leave, I don't haggle prices here." The shop owner finally said. "What are you talking about?" Elvis asked, pretending to be unaware of what he was driving at. "Since you are dumb, I will explain to you just once." He paused then continued. "In this shop, all clothings and accessories are of fixed prices. We don't haggle prices for whatever reasons." The man replied. "I wasn't trying to haggle prices with you.""Then…" "I want you to package everything I have selected and then I will pay for each item." He explained. Throwing his head backwards, the shop owner burst into an annoying laughter causing a lone tear to escape from Elvis eyes. When the customers enquired on why the shop owner was laughing, he was quick to tell them and they began to make jest of him. "Ever
Smirking, Elvis dug his hand into his hair then began to tug on it. Dustin's company was the least of his choices for emerging winner but it turns out he won, beating other competitors by a large margin. "Sir… are you still there?" Ms. precious asked, she had suspended her activity, awaiting response from his end but he wasn't replying. "Yeah." He muttered, biting the corner of his lips as he racked his brain on what to do. "When should I announce the result of the nomination? You are the president and whatever you ask me to do, I will." She added. Ms. Precious added her last sentence, thinking he was finding it hard to come up with a decision because of his father. "Mr. Ford wouldn't know about this." She said, seconds later when he still didn't say anything. Elvis couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle since he found her words amusing. "You know what… just suspend the announcement until a week later. I need to take some things into consideration." He said, still chuckling. "
Elvis repeated his request several times but the cops won't hear him out. They kept pushing him into the interrogation room despite his protest. When they finally succeeded, he lowered himself on a chair and Detective Artemis walked in, flinging a brown envelope in his hand. "Did you tell him his charges?" He asked the cop who had clasped his wrists with a cuff earlier. "I did." He replied. "But I didn't hear. I even asked him to repeat his words but he wouldn't budge. Bet me, when I get out of here, I'm going to make sure you all spend a week behind bars." He threatened. The cops around including Detective Artemis burst into a mocking laughter while Elvis looked at them with an embarrassed look. He knew exactly what they were thinking. "Really? You can't even afford a good meal not to talk about clothings but here you are claiming you are going to put us behind bars… I will call that vivid imagination." Detective Artemis said, erupting in another bout of laughter. "Fine. I wan
When the male guard wouldn't stop glaring at Elvis and Elvis kept smiling, the female guard cleared her throat, only then did the both of them stop. "Have you been to a prison before?" The male guard asked, a few seconds later. "No, why did you ask?" Elvis asked, his gaze fixed on the guard's face. "Because you are acting as if you are going to paradise. Just in case you don't know, you are more or less a domestic animal whenever you are in prison. You don't have freedom of speech, your movement is restricted and a whole lot of things. You think it's funny, huh?" The guard rapped and at the end of his mini speech, he was heaving as if he had just completed a heavy chore. "I know." Elvis replied with a calm tone. "Then why are you smiling? I will advise you to brace yourself for the ills in the prison yard and at the same time, pray the good lord sends you a helper.""Thanks for your advice, I will put that in mind." He replied and the guard waved him off. When the male guard's
A contented smile spread on his Elvis's face as he listened to the frustrated voice of Dustin, he was not done with him yet. Soon, the call was disconnected. "What is our next step sir?"Ms. Precious asked. "I will tell you that later," He replied with a narrow gaze, "Lets leave here," He got into the car and Ms. Precious did likewise, then they drove off. They stopped at a boutique where Elvis was to change his clothes before visiting his parents as planned. Elvis got down from the car without Ms. Precious who was in a call. He then approached the boutique, but was stopped by the security man outside the boutique. "Excuse me sir," Elvis stopped and turned to the man. "Beggars are not allowed inside here," he said in a hoarse voice. Elvis raised a brow, "Did I say I was coming to beg? Or do I look like a beggar." "Apparently, you do" Elvis couldn't dictate if he was being mocked, so he moved a bit closer to the man."I'm not a beggar," Elvis said and gave him a cold stare, but t
Elvis got into his car and drove off still feeling proud about winning the suit, this felt like a new beginning for him Even after being betrayed by the one he loved and cherished,he still took it as a motivation to move on but the question bothering him remains the same. Will he ever find true love ?? Even after what his wife did to him.He felt disgusted remembering her face and how she kissed her lover in front of him without any shame or fear, just because he was poor she abandoned him.She played with his emotions, though they were married, she didn't even care about it. She brought her lover to their home, the marriage wasn't meant to be in the first place since her mother wasn't in support. His so-called wife didn't let him get close to her but yet she slept with her lover and pretended to love him. She looked innocent. If anyone were to tell him this would happen he wouldn't have believed him/her.But why ? Why did she do this to him ? Was it all a pretense from the beginning
"Don't you think it's been a long time since we saw each other already?" Elvis's father was trying to change the topic. But come to think about it, it had been a long time since they saw each other."You should have just said it right in my face that you wanted to see me, Dad." He smiled slightly."Then don't make it before the end of today." He replied.Elvis smiled slightly followed by a really deep sigh. The sigh that came when he knew he didn't have much time with them anymore.Elvis got dressed as quickly as he could and humped into his car. The driver was busy with some other things so he didn't want to bother him.The ride was a silent one since he took the lone route leading to the hospital. He wanted some quiet time to think things through. But it wasn't long before the silence was broken. Elvis heard a scream in the street which was strange.Elvis slowed down his car engine. It was a deserted area with more trees and cars hardly passing by. Who would stop in the middle of t
