Sarah flipped her hair to a side with a broad smile on her face. She knew Elvis had seen her and so she wanted him to be aware she had seen him too.
"Mister, your direction." The cab man said, breaking the uncomfortable silence in the car."Is she your passenger too?" He asked, nodding at Sarah."Of course I am. Am I posing a threat to you?" She asked with a light chuckle."I'm sorry, I will pass." Elvis said hurriedly and even before the cab man could say a word, he had stuttered out of the car.Clenching his fists, he began to walk down the road with a scowl on his face. The least person he wanted to see was Sarah but there she was — smiling back at him."I should have looked properly before boarding." He snapped, fist pumping the air."Hey, be careful. Do you want to hit me?" Sarah asked, jolting Elvis in the process and making him stop on his track.Frowning, he swirled in her direction, "Why?" He asked with a large scowl."What are you talking about?""You ought to be in the cab.""Was that why you left?" She chuckled, her hands on her hips. "You are still acting childish." She added with a scoff."Please, leave me alone. We aren't…""You still haven't changed. Aren't you tired of living in poverty? You should be at work right now, working really hard to make ends meet and to save up for the future. You are so pathetic." She said in a loud voice making a few heads turn in her direction.Slightly embarrassed, he buried his head to avoid the gazes he was receiving from passers by.When Sarah wouldn't stop battering him with her words,he tucked his hands in his pockets then turned around to leave but instead of letting him be, she continued to trail after him."Sarah please, stop pestering me." He scowled, halting at the same time."Why should I? Elvis, you might see me as a villian right now but that is not true. I love you so much that's why I want you to come out from your poverty stricken life. If I didn't love you…""Heavens knows that no matter what you do or say, I won't believe you love me." He interrupted harshly."Of course I do." She countered, rolling her eyes to the back of her head. She was apparently having the best part of her day making fun of him."Take your love elsewhere. I don't need it." He snapped as he flagged down a taxi. Before she could get in, the driver rode away, whisking Elvis away from her."We will meet again." She yelled after the cab.Two minutes into the ride, the cab man turned in his direction, "Sir, where are you heading?" He asked."Sanway Café Shop." He replied, sinking into the chair."That will be $10." The cab man said, casting him a brief glance."Just drive, I will pay you." He said angrily. When the driver didn't respond, he sank deeper into the chair and with his eyes tightly closed, he let out a sigh.Sarah's act back there was the least of his problems, he was going to use the twenty minute drive to the café shop to brainstorm on how he was going to help his father.Drained, he was already drifting off into a sleep when the car came to a halt and the cab man tapped his shoulder. He continued tapping him until he was fully awake.Wearing a scowl, he asked, "What?""We arrived." He announced."Okay." He mumbled, wiping his sleepy eyes with a hand as he reached out for his wallet with the other. After paying for his fare, he immediately dashed into the shop, located his favorite seat that overlooked the whole café then settled in it.It wasn't long after his arrival that the waitress arrived with a cup of coffee on a tray. "I was thinking you won't come after your last visit." She smiled. He was a regular customer in the café shop and all the workers knew him.The last time he visited because of his poor looks and clothing, a rich lady had trampled on his foot and when he drew her attention to it, she erupted with anger then upturned a scalding cup of coffee on him."I was just unfortunate, it isn't a big deal." He said with a shrug."Well, that aside. The coffee is on the house, courtesy of the manager after he heard what had happened.""Thank you. I appreciate it." He said then took a long drink of the burning liquid. When the waitress disappeared, he quickly brought out his phone to resume his research he had called off earlier. It was the pitiable condition his father was in that made him resume and this time around, he was determined to get a lasting solution for it.For the next few hours, he was engrossed in his phone as he tried to locate hospitals all around the world who had patients similar to his father."Father's illness isn't common. I doubt if it is even in the bibliography." He mumbled, drinking from his cup of cold coffee. The determination to save his father still gnawing on him, he resumed scrolling through his phone after a brief break.Suddenly, he rose then let out a loud scream and at once all the attention of the customers and workers in the café were drawn to him.Seeing what his excitement had caused him, he quickly covered his mouth then lowered himself on his seat."I'm sorry, I didn't mean that." He said with a bow. Only then did everyone return their gaze to their business. His relentless effort had ended when he stumbled into the page of the Cator Family who were renowned in the field of medicine. He had managed to stumble on the page after clicking on the link under another famous medical doctor blog. With what he had read, he was convinced that the Cator Family would be able to nurse his father back to health.Smirking, he emptied the remaining content of the coffee into his mouth and after tossing the cup into the trash can, he made his way to the counter to pay.Just as he was about to place some money on the counter, the waitress from earlier held his hand. "I told you the cup is free today." She said with a little smile."Oops, i forgot all about it. Thank you." He said, returning her warm smile."You're welcome." She said, "About earlier, are you alright?" She asked in low tones."Earlier?" Elvis asked. He was a bit confused."Yeah. You suddenly screamed and all attention was on you."Smirking, he replied, "I allowed my excitement to overwhelm me. I'm fine, thanks for asking." He was already at the door when he turned around and after paying for another cup of coffee, he left for a clothes shop. The shop was about fifteen minutes walk from the café shop but instead of taking a cab like he would have done, he had decided to walk the distance while sipping his coffee."Cator Family." He said out of the blue then halted suddenly thus making the lady behind him bump into his back."What are you thinking?" She scowled, pushing him aside."I'm sorry, I had no idea you were behind me." He called after her but she didn't act as if she had heard."People and temper. Glad she wasn't carrying groceries else I would have been done for." He mused, darting his eyes around his current environment until his eyes landed on a toy shop.Opposite the toy shop, there was a canopy so he decided to cross over and sit while he gathered his thoughts. The next half hour saw him under the canopy with his cup of coffee on his lips as he thought about how he was going to meet with the Cator Family. He hadn't heard of them before and so he was a bit skeptical. His first instinct was to get confirmation from his father's doctor but he feared he was going to mention it to his father so he waved the option off.The next person that crossed his mind was Ms. Precious so he went ahead to put a call across her. Fortunately, immediately he put her on the line, she received his call to his delight."Have you heard of the Cator Family?" He asked."Cator Family? I have no idea." She replied."Okay." And with that, he hung up."I will make more inquiries." He said to himself as he rose to continue his walk. He had five more minutes before he got to the clothes shop. When he had finished shopping, he walked up the counter to inform the shop owner who had been giving him a weird look since he arrived."Are you sure you can afford those clothes you piled up there?" The shop owner asked even before he could state his mission.Elvis sighed in frustration as the shop owner raked him from his head to his feet. He knew exactly what the shop owner was thinking and the more time he spent looking back at him, the more he became angry. "Please leave, I don't haggle prices here." The shop owner finally said. "What are you talking about?" Elvis asked, pretending to be unaware of what he was driving at. "Since you are dumb, I will explain to you just once." He paused then continued. "In this shop, all clothings and accessories are of fixed prices. We don't haggle prices for whatever reasons." The man replied. "I wasn't trying to haggle prices with you.""Then…" "I want you to package everything I have selected and then I will pay for each item." He explained. Throwing his head backwards, the shop owner burst into an annoying laughter causing a lone tear to escape from Elvis eyes. When the customers enquired on why the shop owner was laughing, he was quick to tell them and they began to make jest of him. "Ever
Smirking, Elvis dug his hand into his hair then began to tug on it. Dustin's company was the least of his choices for emerging winner but it turns out he won, beating other competitors by a large margin. "Sir… are you still there?" Ms. precious asked, she had suspended her activity, awaiting response from his end but he wasn't replying. "Yeah." He muttered, biting the corner of his lips as he racked his brain on what to do. "When should I announce the result of the nomination? You are the president and whatever you ask me to do, I will." She added. Ms. Precious added her last sentence, thinking he was finding it hard to come up with a decision because of his father. "Mr. Ford wouldn't know about this." She said, seconds later when he still didn't say anything. Elvis couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle since he found her words amusing. "You know what… just suspend the announcement until a week later. I need to take some things into consideration." He said, still chuckling. "
Elvis repeated his request several times but the cops won't hear him out. They kept pushing him into the interrogation room despite his protest. When they finally succeeded, he lowered himself on a chair and Detective Artemis walked in, flinging a brown envelope in his hand. "Did you tell him his charges?" He asked the cop who had clasped his wrists with a cuff earlier. "I did." He replied. "But I didn't hear. I even asked him to repeat his words but he wouldn't budge. Bet me, when I get out of here, I'm going to make sure you all spend a week behind bars." He threatened. The cops around including Detective Artemis burst into a mocking laughter while Elvis looked at them with an embarrassed look. He knew exactly what they were thinking. "Really? You can't even afford a good meal not to talk about clothings but here you are claiming you are going to put us behind bars… I will call that vivid imagination." Detective Artemis said, erupting in another bout of laughter. "Fine. I wan
When the male guard wouldn't stop glaring at Elvis and Elvis kept smiling, the female guard cleared her throat, only then did the both of them stop. "Have you been to a prison before?" The male guard asked, a few seconds later. "No, why did you ask?" Elvis asked, his gaze fixed on the guard's face. "Because you are acting as if you are going to paradise. Just in case you don't know, you are more or less a domestic animal whenever you are in prison. You don't have freedom of speech, your movement is restricted and a whole lot of things. You think it's funny, huh?" The guard rapped and at the end of his mini speech, he was heaving as if he had just completed a heavy chore. "I know." Elvis replied with a calm tone. "Then why are you smiling? I will advise you to brace yourself for the ills in the prison yard and at the same time, pray the good lord sends you a helper.""Thanks for your advice, I will put that in mind." He replied and the guard waved him off. When the male guard's
A contented smile spread on his Elvis's face as he listened to the frustrated voice of Dustin, he was not done with him yet. Soon, the call was disconnected. "What is our next step sir?"Ms. Precious asked. "I will tell you that later," He replied with a narrow gaze, "Lets leave here," He got into the car and Ms. Precious did likewise, then they drove off. They stopped at a boutique where Elvis was to change his clothes before visiting his parents as planned. Elvis got down from the car without Ms. Precious who was in a call. He then approached the boutique, but was stopped by the security man outside the boutique. "Excuse me sir," Elvis stopped and turned to the man. "Beggars are not allowed inside here," he said in a hoarse voice. Elvis raised a brow, "Did I say I was coming to beg? Or do I look like a beggar." "Apparently, you do" Elvis couldn't dictate if he was being mocked, so he moved a bit closer to the man."I'm not a beggar," Elvis said and gave him a cold stare, but t
Elvis got into his car and drove off still feeling proud about winning the suit, this felt like a new beginning for him Even after being betrayed by the one he loved and cherished,he still took it as a motivation to move on but the question bothering him remains the same. Will he ever find true love ?? Even after what his wife did to him.He felt disgusted remembering her face and how she kissed her lover in front of him without any shame or fear, just because he was poor she abandoned him.She played with his emotions, though they were married, she didn't even care about it. She brought her lover to their home, the marriage wasn't meant to be in the first place since her mother wasn't in support. His so-called wife didn't let him get close to her but yet she slept with her lover and pretended to love him. She looked innocent. If anyone were to tell him this would happen he wouldn't have believed him/her.But why ? Why did she do this to him ? Was it all a pretense from the beginning
"Don't you think it's been a long time since we saw each other already?" Elvis's father was trying to change the topic. But come to think about it, it had been a long time since they saw each other."You should have just said it right in my face that you wanted to see me, Dad." He smiled slightly."Then don't make it before the end of today." He replied.Elvis smiled slightly followed by a really deep sigh. The sigh that came when he knew he didn't have much time with them anymore.Elvis got dressed as quickly as he could and humped into his car. The driver was busy with some other things so he didn't want to bother him.The ride was a silent one since he took the lone route leading to the hospital. He wanted some quiet time to think things through. But it wasn't long before the silence was broken. Elvis heard a scream in the street which was strange.Elvis slowed down his car engine. It was a deserted area with more trees and cars hardly passing by. Who would stop in the middle of t
The men shrunk. At first, they thought Elvis was only trying to put up an act but now, it did not seem so.They panic not knowing what to do. "We have to leave right away. We don't want to be charged for attempted rape.""And attempted murder too. Don't try to beat down the charges.""Fool." They gritted their teeth at him. "We are going to make sure that you pay for this."In a manner that made him look like he didn't care about their words, Elvis placed his hands on his Chins and thought."How are you intending to do that when you will be rotting in jail? And my little advice for you. Don't try to run. That's going to increase your charges. Just wait for these men to get you."The men only snared at him. Determined not to listen to a word of what he says."Look at us directly in the face and call us fools, coward." The men roared back at him. "Do you think that you are going to fall for that?" They soon took off on their heels.Elvis had a deep sigh of relief. He didn't realize what
