Chapter One Hundred & Seventy-Two

Mr. Alcantara has been quiet even after his marital crisis has been solved. He lived in the same house with his wife but they behaved like strangers. The pain was always evident on Mrs. Alcantara's face but she never said a word because she was to blame for everything.

Melanie observed closely that her father always locked himself inside his study, shoving his face with constant work to relieve him of the pain and thinking.

Melanie decided to have a father-daughter conversation with her Dad.

She knocked twice on the study room’s door and peeped to see her Dad engrossed in his work.

“Dad?” She said,

“My baby girl, come in,” Mr. Alcantara said.

He removed his reading glasses and stopped what he was doing.

“I want to talk to you about something important,” Melanie said.

“Okay,” Mr. Alcantara replied.

He gave her his rapt attention. It has been so long since he had a heart-to-heart conversation with his daughter and at that point, he wished she was still his little Melanie.
