Chapter 6

Eddie's heart was ripped apart into a million pieces as he never thought that he would go to his master's home only to be informed that he was dead.

His emotions were complicated and he could hardly think straight but a note was left behind for him.

Eddie Maxwell. I know I prevented you from practicing it. You will understand soon enough. But right now that I can hardly move, I want you to take over my place and start practicing again.

And for your first task, the black worm is on his back. You will have to find a way to eliminate it.“ It ended.

“I will not disappoint you this time master and I will surely find a way to get you back on your feet.“ He swore under his breath.

A convoy accompanied him back to the city as he rode in the spacious car and his heart was racing fast.

It was his first day as the manager and he felt nervous since he was going to be having a meeting with the department managers at the hotels.

Outside, Nicolas, Lady Gaga, and Bradley were walking towards a mall. Their company had been shortlisted and for this reason, they had to look their best.

While they came down from their cars, the convoy stormed by and everyone took out their phones to get a glimpse of the moment.

And this time, Eddie was more vivid in the car.

“Isn't that Eddie?“ Nicolas could no longer contain it since all of them were too frightened to speak up

But for a while, they were so transfixed in their thoughts that none of them spat out even a single word from their mouth.

Finally, Lady Gaga decided to speak up as she burst out into a chuckle.

“Eddie. Do you guys miss him so much already?“ They didn't fail to recognize the sarcasm in her voice.

“Come on, you all should be real for once. Eddie in that car. We must have seen wrong. Because there is no way that it can be that broken ass.

I can swear on it with my life.“ Lady Gaga returned laughing, clutching hard to her stomach until they ached.

“I agree with Mom. It must be someone who looks just like him. That can certainly not be the Eddie that we all know.“ Juliet responded further.

Meanwhile, Eddie sent everyone off back to his father immediately after he set foot there.

If he wanted to be successful then he had to do it without his father's help. He had assured his father.

When he came down from the car, he saw an image of himself on the street.

“Wanted?” He read squeezing the paper and tossing it off

From the details, he could tell that it was from Sophia and Latoya.

“So this is how you repay me for saving your father indeed.” He muttered under his breath.

“This is just a trivial issue. I will take care of it but first, I have other pressing issues to attend to.” He said to himself.

His eyes caught a glimpse of the breathtaking building that stood before him causing him to sip a large snooze of air into his air pipes as he forged ahead into the place.

Staring at his wrist, he could see that he was a few minutes earlier than normal. Everything about the place was flashy and the workers were all going around doing their job in the reception hall.

His father had told him that he would have someone waiting for him there but after pairing around for a while, it didn't seem like anyone was going to come for him soon.

Drawing in a really deep breath, he stood up from the waiting stand and walked over to someone who seemed like the supervisor.

“Good day sir.“ He greeted me with a smile on his face.

Slowly, Mr. Japheth turned around towards him with a frown hanging on his face.

“You fool. I was going to come to you. To have been idling around when there is a lot to be done? How dare you. Do you realize that we are short of manpower and I might decide not to even pay you?“ He thundered at Eddie, coating his face with a thick layer of silver but that was only a minor issue compared to the confusion that flooded his face.

“What are you talking about?“ Eddie was still trying to make sense of his numerous words.

“What am I talking about?“ He hits Eddie on his shoulders.

“Slaves. When you give them little privilege they begin to act as though they are all on the same level.“ A long whip of hiss escaped from his lips almost immediately.

Thoughts ran through Eddie's mind and he caught a glimpse of what exactly he was trying to pass across to him.

“I'm sorry but you must have mistaken me for a worker here which I am not.“ Eddie replied.

Immediately he spat out the words from his mouth, Mr. Japheth stared at him from the crown of his head to his feet and hissed once again.

“Oh. I see.“ There was every hint of disgust in his voice.

“I should have known it. You looked so weird. Someone like you isn't even worthy enough to work here.“

Eddie could already feel his anger rising badly. If there was anything that he had learned from his movements over the news, it was the act of keeping his cool.

But right now, he was beginning to lose that calm as his knuckles made a cracking sound.

“Excuse you?“

“Don't give me that look as though we don't know the reason that you are here. To beg of course. Or is there any other reason that you are here?“ Mr. Japheth stared right into his eyes but Eddie was ready to disappoint him as he said.

“I'm sorry to disappoint you but not everyone that you see dressed is a freeloader.

I am here as an invited gift and I only want to ask you for the venue for the meeting.“ Be sad.

Immediately he spat out the door words from his mouth, he burst out into laughter almost immediately.

“A guest here?“ He laughed even harder, clutching his stomach and causing the frown on Eddie's face to deepen even more than it was already.

“And you expect that I am going to believe that?

I think I must have been mistaken when I called you a freeloader. You are a swindler but then, how dumb of a swindler could you be to put up such an act?

“And what should I be expecting next? You lost your wallet and want some help as the trillionaire that you are?“ He laughed.

Just take a good look around. Even the cleaners are better dressed than you are.“

Just then, they could hear footsteps approaching them swiftly from behind and he turned around.

“Manager. Edward Maxwell will be here anytime soon. We need more workers.“ The supervisor seemed exhausted as sweat dropped from his face.

“Those bums. How lazy can they get.“ He spat.

“But sir. They are working hard.“ The supervisor was about to sir but he would not even allow him to finish his statement.

“Are you now the boss here or I am?“ He thundered, withering the rest of the words even before they could sprout.

Suddenly, a dark smile hovered on the lips of the manager as a deadly thought crossed.

“I guess I might have a solution to that problem.“ He replied, turning around slowly towards Eddie.

“Swindler. What do you say about getting an actual job instead of just idling around, looking for someone to scam?“

“Huh?“ Eddie shot a really weird stare at him.

“That would be a yes.“ He replied swiftly.

“Get this Young Man a cleaner's uniform and the moppers.“ He said swiftly.

“I never told you.“

“As though you have a choice. I want to do this and you will do it.“ He shot a deadly glare at Eddie.

“Don't make this any more difficult for yourself than it is already.“

“What!!!“ Eddie's eyes were already flaming hot red with anger and his knuckles popped and he continued to stare at him.
