Chapter 5: Five minutes madness

He turned around and his smile knew no bounds. Now, all he had to do was drag this piece of car wreck back and he'd get his due reward.

What was the weight of this object compared to his potential gains?

Oh puhleeze!

The car felt just like a log of tree to him right now. He could totally put up with it.

Mind you, the humans of this era had better physiques than humans of the pre-magnetic era.

No to talk of being a superhuman.

Dragging a piece of car wreck was just like lifting a bag of cement. Though a bit strenuous, it was still manageable especially at the thought of getting a thousand Black mags or rather 10 Golden mags.

That was a golden collection! Only God knew how may golden mags the scavengers of the 33rd division had seen.

Without much ado, he picked the egg and placed it among the loot that he gained from the beast. Then he placed it in the car wreck and dragged it forward enthusiastically. Even the egg wasn't spared! At least, the egg was also eatable. If he made snake egg bacon and tendon soup, he'd have a great meal ahead of him.

Taking two steps forward, he dragged his latest discovery forward but as he did so, he heard an unfamiliar sound In his ears.

'Screech!!!' the sound of metal grating against each other rang out.

Blade paused and looked back at the wreck he was carrying. He spotted a confused expression. Why did it make such sound and also, the wreck felt a bit out of place and a bit heavier than his estimated weight.

'Was something holding it back? Or was it the accumulation of sand on the wreck or was it just the sound of metal against stone?' Blade momentarily asked himself.

'Who knows' he thought as he shrugged his shoulders and increased the amount of force he used to pull the car wreck.

'screech! screech!! screech!!!' the sound got louder and louder the more he pulled it.

Blade stopped all of a sudden. He was flabbergasted!

How could a stone keep on dragging him back? That was totally impossible!

Or maybe it was sand and rocks?

On that note, Blade began to dust and shake excess sand and gravel from the car wreck.

After concluding this, he tried again but was still getting that same grating sound.

Could it be that another metal is entangling it say, a rod or sheet or else there was no other way...

All of a sudden a bulb lit up on his head.

Metal against metal? A car tangled with many iron rods or what else???

He just couldn't analyse the current data before him but when removing all possibilities and leaving the impossibility, that impossibility could just turn out to be possible!

Then……..

It couldn't be! He turned around with his face as pale as a white sheet and his hands shaking nervously he took his first step forward and as if he was treading on a thin sheet of ice he re-traced his footsteps.

With his heart pounding, Blade got to the spot he pulled the car wreck from and there he saw that there was indeed some twisted metals beneath the car coupled with some dark adhesive of sand, oil and rust.

After dusting and removing this dark layer, his eyes were greeted with a massive glistening amount of magnetised metal beneath the sandy landscape.

Blade was shocked! Totally astonished! This was…virtually a miracle! He held his breath and looked at the sight before him in surprise.

All of a sudden his eyes widened in shock and wonder as his brain finally fully registered the information that his eyes took from the sight before him.

What magnificence! A car garage buried during the pre-magnetic domain eruption was the cause of the cause of the grating sound.

He placed his fingers on his lips and counted silently.

As he counted with shaky lips, his brain refused to process what was going on.

He believed that all of this definitely couldn't be real. First from a fuel pump, to a car, then all the way to a car garage!

Goddess of fortune, what else do you have in stock for me?

He's definitely not dreaming on this one and to be sure, he looked around, sure enough there was nobody to pinch to confirm that fact.

Good gracious!!!

This is it!

Blade calmed his racing heart and continued counting his loot.

As he counted, his ears became red and his breathing became faster and faster until he was short of breath.

These were the symptoms of too much excitement. All of these were happening when he realized that he had finished counting after a few minutes. He inhaled a sharp whistle of breath and exclaimed, "Holy cow‼! How many?!"

He tried forcing himself to calm down, but he couldn't help it instead he opened his mouth and laughed wildly into the sky.

"Ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!" he laughed then stopped and laughed again. This went on for quite a while.

Blade slowly sat down on the ground as he laughed to his heart's content. If there could be a something more beautiful and wonderful than this coming, then let it come!!!

He was ready for anything the goddess of fortune wanted to throw at him. 'Goddess of fortune, even your slippers or bath robe would do'

'Fling them at me, use your whip to flog my back, use your rope to tie my neck'

'Let me become your trash taker. I'll take out your trash, clean your house and anything else you need me to do' Blade laughed as his emotions were being conveyed through his laughter to his surroundings.

He practically looked like a mad man at that moment. Truly, there was a saying that read 'Money makes a man go mad'. This saying applied to Blade's situation right now. Because what he was doing was a vivid example of a term that had been long forgotten.
