"Mr.Doyun! It's headed your way!" a young voice yelled out as he chased after the blurry form of a monster that they were hunting.
"Got it!" Second, an older voice answered and just as the monster rounded the corner, it stopped moving. The monster's limbs were bent at an unnatural angle, struggling to move and get out of the invisible trap that it had fallen into.
'Well, not so invisible…'Doyun thought. He had realized a while past that only he could see the strings that he utilized. Even if they manifested into the physical world, they remained unseen by anyone but him.
An advantage that only he had due to his new pair of eyes but he also knew that was only because they had yet to bump into any other human being in the past week."Sorry, Mr.Doyun. I let it get away…" came the tired voice of Sung-Jin. The 11 years old looked out of breath, better than when they had first started hunting a few days ago.
By hunting, they were able to gather exp and improve their stats, gaining far better physical and mental state compared to normal human beings. If Doyun calculated right, Sung-Jin now could take down an adult twice his size without much difficulty. Though, the older man was sure some of the credit for the boy's improvement had to be given to the miniature golden man who had taken to following the kid.Iseul and Ah-In couldn't see him, so the man was probably part of Sung-Jin's ability and the only reason Doyun could see him was due to the blasted eyes. 'Speaking of abilities-'
he gazed at the spider monkey, still struggling in his net of strings."Sung-Jin, you should kill him quickly. We need to get back soon." The younger boy nodded.
"Okay, sir."
The 11 year old took a stance a few steps away from the monkey and readied himself.
Doyun watched as the golden man guided Sung-Jin along."Mul" at that simple command, a small handgun appeared in the boy's hand. It was a pretty thing with gold linings containing and shaping the stars that swam along the surface. 'Mul' as he called it was probably one of the most terrifying guns Doyun had ever seen one.
"Star cluster" Sung-Jin gave another command and following it, several miniature stars appeared behind the boy, ready for his next command. Currently, there were only 5 of them and if he had heard it right, the golden man said there would be more when Sung-Jin grew properly into his powers.
Just before Doyun could slip into another inner Mongolia, the younger boy pulled the trigger and the stars shot forward at incredible speed, hitting the monkey right in the chest in the blink of an eye. They left a gaping hole behind, that smoked and smelt of burnt flesh. No matter how many times he had seen it, the smell still left Doyun quite queasy.
Unwilling to fester the bad thoughts more than necessary, Doyun let the monkey down and instead praised the 11 years old while the younger put the monkey into his [Inventory].
"That was a good one Sung-Jin, you didn't miss this time." He smiled, knowing how much better the boy had gotten since the first few times he had used 'Mul'.
"Thanks, Mr.Doyun! Now come on! Let's go back! Ah-In and big sister Iseul are waiting!" the boy's half gold eyes sparkled as he smiled at his guardian brightly. Doyun huffed a laugh and trotted after the child while the invisible man simply floated along after them. It has been a week and a half since the destruction of the world. The time was only moving forward and sooner or later, the small group of four will have to move along. So caught up in their thoughts, no one paid attention to the distant roars that made the very air tremble echoed much closer than before. Yes, the world was moving and with that, the quiet lull that blanketed the whole world was coming to its end....
Head full of bouncy scarlet hair bobbed up and down as the owner hit their head against the table repeatedly. It had been a week and a half already, yet they still had no stable source of information.
They had no way where was safe and where wasn't. The internet had long since died and was no longer of any use after the first 3 days. Even the tv news stations did not work due to getting razed to the ground by the animals.
Iseul held back a groan, instead opting to bite the insides of her cheeks in pure frustration. There was no information, no contact and certainly no place they could consider safe. It honestly worried the teenager to be tizzy.
"I'll! Pray!' Ah-In grinned, throwing one of the toy blocks laid in front of her at the red head. Isuel wished she could be like her and play without any worries.
At first Ah-In hadn't wanted to separate from Doyun and Sung-Jin but over time the toddler had gotten used to the idea of being away from them and even started speaking once they settled down. It eased a lot of their worries and certainly took away some of the worries the two males had. Iseul didn't know what really happened but she was glad to see Ah-In recovering from whatever was keeping her quiet. Another block was thrown, interrupting the red head's line of thought. The toddler was looking at her with a rather impressive disappointed face."I'ul! Pway!!!"the little lady demanded. This time, the older girl really groaned.
"Fine! Fine, I'll play" she conceded and was just about to slip out of her seat, where she had been moping for the past two hours when the boys returned, signaled by the opening of their front door.
"We're back!" Soft yet still cheerful voice of Sung-Jin filled the apartment causing the toddler to squeal loudly in happiness.
"Jin! Jin!!!"
"Ah-in!!" The older brother squealed right back. He hurriedly took off his shoes and picked up his baby sister while the older two watched them fondly.
"Were you good for big sister Iseul?" Sung-Jin asked as he lifted Ah-in up like she didn't weigh anything. He supposed all his training was paying up on that front.
The little girl nodded, her eyes sparkling with delight."Ah-In good for I'ul!"
"Good girl!" Sung-jin praised patting her head.
"So how did it go? Did you find anything?"Iseul asked Doyun. The older man shook his head, answering her invisible question.
"No, we didn't see anyone else. We did catch some spider monkeys. But- no, nevermind. How about you?"
"Same as before, we got nothing." There was no connection, no internet, no way to contact other people. Sure, for some bizarre reason the system provided them with running water and electricity as long as there were more than 2 people together.
The more of them were together the stronger this strange phenomenon became and if there were only a few then it was weak and provided just enough for a normal person to get by. That was as far as the group of 4 had been able to figure out anyway.
"We need to leave soon don't we?" The redhead couldn't help but ask, even if she knew the answer already. Iseul watched the oldest of them nod. She knew Doyun didn't want to worry them but they all knew leaving was inevitable. They needed to continue along if they wanted to survive.
Staying in one place when they had no idea what was going on was just asking for death.
"So when are we leaving?"
"Tomorrow morning. It is best to move in daylight." He answered and Iseul thought. 'Especially when they had no way of knowing what roamed in the night.'
"So one more night of comfort huh?" The teen tried to crack a joke and was relieved to see the older man smile.
"Yeah just one more night of comfort." He nodded along before moving from her side to tell the kids. If the kids had gotten more open, Doyun had become more relaxed yet withdrawn at the same time. It concerned Iseul. She wasn't an expert on physiology but even someone like her knew Doyun bottling up his feelings were bad. She just hoped his eventual fall won't drag all of them down with him.
For now though, Lee Iseul was content with watching. And that's all that mattered until then.
.....
That night, they ( with the expectation of Ah-in) all laid awake, unable to sleep. There was no need to pack and nothing else to do yet they felt jittery at the thought of leaving.
Maybe it was because this apartment had been a safe haven for them for the past few days and while they knew they had to leave sooner or later, it didn't make it any easier for them. Yeah, that must have been it. Still, it turned out to be a good thing, when the danger came knocking. It started when the high pitched cries of animals filled the sky, followed by a monstrous roar of an enormous beast.
By the first roar, everyone was up and out of the building. Ah-In was slung over Doyun's back in the baby carrier and Sung-Jin was close behind them with Iseul.Trying not to get killed under the feet of fleeing creatures, Doyun could not make out much. But what he could see was lava.
So much lava rushing towards them with no mercy for anything in its way."WHAT DO WE DO!?" Iseul cried in panic. Without looking back to the fast coming death, Doyun turned towards the group and yelled.
"FOLLOW THE ANIMALS AND RUN!!!!"
[SURVIVE THE GREAT TURTLE'S ATTACK.] [TIME BEFORE THE FALL OF SEOUL] [00:07:57] The clock ticked away ominously over their head as each and every living being residing in Seoul ran for their lives. This was the very first time they had ever received a quest such as this, in which the only goal was to survive. Doyun and the Co ran as fast as possible, doing their best to avoid being trampled under the creatures fleeing alongside them. Lava ate away behind them, gaining more ground with each step they took. It was relentless in its chase, granting no moment for anyone to rest and gather their bearings. So with certain death literally coming knocking down on their doorstep, the group of four wasted no time in using up the stat
[The Priest has made your Acquaintance.] "Well aren't you gonna answer?" Hyunwoo asked with a pleasant smile on his face. Doyun eyed him warily before running his gaze over his companions. Sung-Jin was falling asleep on his feet and Iseul looked not much better. He too was barely holding on to stay alert at this point. The earlier disaster had taken a lot out of them and they all needed a rest if they wanted to continue moving. Lee Hyunwoo was a priest too. They were usually one of the only people who never judged Doyun for his past. While he wasn't religious and was not willing to follow The Lord, the green eyed man could at least respect his followers. Doyun ran back towards the house as fast as he could. There was a white cloud of dust oozing right above where it stood accompanied by the ear piercing cries of a toddler that rang through the air."AH-IN! SUNG-JIN! ISEUL!!!!" The dark haired man called out. He skipped over the rubble, heading towards the guest bedroom and froze at the sight that greeted him. In the place where the bedroom used to be stood massive spiders with three bundles on its back. The smallest bundle shook with Ah-In's cry while Iseul's red hair could be seen from the biggest. The spider however easily evaded him by jumping back towards the big chunk of broken wall. It then spit at him, purplish green liquid that i
Human species understood pretty early that everything died. On this earth, every life form had a set expiration date but they could also die prematurely from various other causes. So if everything died then would the world die too? The planet too should have a set lifespan no?The complete destruction of the world, apocalypse. It was something humanity always wondered about. The various records through the history of civilization proved that. Cataclysm, Armageddon and Ragnarok, they are but a few of the many names humanity called the end of the world. Even in the 21st century ,society still theorized about when the world might end. That was the purpose of Apocalypse Theory. It was a web platform where they discussed, analyzed and came up with theories about the annihilation.Due to it being a worldwide platform with English as it's main language, Apocalypse Theory was pretty popular. There were also pretty ridiculous conspira
The world was engulfed in silence as they waited with baited breath for what was coming next. It was like time had stopped moving forward just for this moment. Doyun's heart hammered in his chest loudly with emotions he couldn't recognize. He realized that the timer had stopped ticking, a side glance at his phone showed that it had stopped at 15:00:00. Suddenly, a bright light flashed throughthe sky. People moved to cover their eyes from the blinding light and just like that whatever moment they had been stuck in ,broke. The world finally took a breath and the time moved forward once again. But it wasn't the time to relax just yet.'15:00:01'In the place of the light, stood a golden gate glowing with something ethereal, sound of trumpet echoing all across the world.'15:00:13' The gate was thrown open and from inside of it, what could only be called angels poured out
Cha Doyun was a coward. The truth was as simple as that. He never stood up for himself, never spoke up, never tried to help others, for he was scared of another beating if he did. The one time he tried to help and defend himself, he had been thrown into a cold, damp prison for eight years. So yes, Cha Doyun was a coward and he was rather ashamed to admit it.But what actually had made him, a coward, run in to save someone? It hadn't actually been an intelligent decision on his part to step in like that. Maybe it had been a pity, a guilt or maybe it had been because he didn't want to run anymore. Whatever it had been, it had landed him in a rather messed up situation that's for sure. The dark haired man swallowed nervously. The angel was staring at him rather blankly. It scared Doyun but strangely enough, he didn't regret his decision one bit. He had done the right thing for once and if he was to die he
When Cha Doyun came back to it, he was standing alone inside his apartment holding a robe, a noose that hung from the ceiling around his neck. And as soon as the realization settled, he couldn't breathe anymore. His lungs burnt for air while the noose held tight around his pale neck. It hurt. He desperately clawed at the ropes, trying to release himself. With every passing second without oxygen his vision swam with dark spots and his limbs weakened. Cha Doyun still hasn't stopped struggling however. He didn't survive through the previous day just to die like this. The seven minutes he spent trying to live couldn't be wasted like that. In the middle of a seemingly vain attempt to save himself, the dark haired man paused. That couldn't be right, the last thing he remembered was entering the corner shop to hide so why was he at ho… The thought trailed off as his burning lungs finally gave up. Once again the darknes
At first nothing happened and Doyun almost felt stupid for expecting anything. It was just a phone application after all, so there was no way it could give him real powers. He scowled irritated at himself and went to pick up his phone and then-And then, the pain came. An excruciating, painful burning feeling in his eye sockets that made him want to claw them out. It felt like his eyes were on fire, like they were slowly melting away until there was nothing left.Doyun's hands clawed at where his eyes used to be. He couldn't even make a sound as screams died way before they left his throat. It hurt, hurt and hurt. The black haired main trashed around, his nails digging into the empty eye sockets. To add salt to the injury, every last one of the nerves in his eyes seemed to have burst. Then slowly, slowly something grew inside that empty space. It grew and grew until it filled all of the empty space left by his eyeballs. The pain immediately died down
Doyun ran back towards the house as fast as he could. There was a white cloud of dust oozing right above where it stood accompanied by the ear piercing cries of a toddler that rang through the air."AH-IN! SUNG-JIN! ISEUL!!!!" Kim Sung-Jin may only be 11 years old but he prided himself on being capable of taking care of himself and his little sister in the absence of their parents. He would have gone as far as to say that he didn't need the constant fussing of his parents when he was already such a big boy. He had hit the double digits in age and would soon be a middle schooler. If everything stayed the way they were, at least. It had been two days at most since their parents died and Sung-Jin still could not get over the events of that day. What meager sleep he got to have, were all plagued with nightmares of blood and manic grin with sharp pointed lance that struck him down everytime. But Mr.Doyun's presence soothed him and calmed down the flood of fear and desperation that muddled his mind. He was immensely grateful for the tall man who saved them even though he himself trembled with fear before the monster that killed Sung-Jin's parents.Mr.Doyun th
Doyun had regretted many things in his 29 years of life. He regretted staying quiet when other kids bullied him. He regretted never volunteering when the teacher asked for it. He regretted never stopping his father when he beat his mother. He regretted letting his mother die alone, on the cold floor of their apartment. The point was that the person known as Cha Doyun had many regrets. But there were also things that he will never regret. He would feel miserable and guilty for sure, though he would never regret them. Cha Doyun will never regret his father's death who drank himself to death. He will never regret standing up for his schoolmates back then. And just like how he'll never regret protecting them, he will never regret leaving the kids behind. It wasn't like he left them forever. Just that he needed time to breathe for a while. So he decided to take a walk outside, leaving his kids in the capable hands of Lee Iseul.
When one is asleep, their awareness of their surroundings naturally drops. It is a state of being that most people liked to call half death. During this resting period, our body function slows down, relaxing the body. Sleep is when one is most vulnerable and it is the perfect time to take them down. That was what Doyun learnt from his time in prison. Taught by one of his more vicious inmates when they almost strangled him to death. That was also the reason why Doyun awoke the moment he heard the front door creak open, a door he clearly remembered locking from the inside. Several alarm bells instantly rang inside his head along with four facts that he realized.First, there was someone else in the apartment. Someone they did not know. Secondly, the kids were still asleep and thus vulnerable to an attack. Thirdly, they had no idea about the intentions of the intruder. Finally, the last thing Doyun realized was that he had to protect the c
The city looked worse than expected. Buildings that once stood tall and proud were broken down, eaten by plants. Cars were overturned, rusted and destroyed beyond belief. The corpses that littered the street just the night before had disappeared between the lava and the creatures that littered around the city. The earth had aged by a century within a single night. It was absolutely jarring how it had changed so much. Now, they stood in a dystopian world, abandoned by humanity. All those post-apocalypse stories paled in comparison to the real thing.Doyun chuckled in awe and loss. This was their reality now, he realized. Every single instance, he dreamt of going inside those novels and experiencing the post apocalyptic world, had come true just like that. Still, he couldn't find it in himself to feel the happiness and delight he should have. Not when it had condemned their entire world to despair. Never, when his desires had ruined the future o
By the time the kids woke up, it was half past 6 am and the sun was already beginning to peek through the horizon. As soon as they were up and awake, Cha Doyun gave them the bottle of water and the bag of biscuits he found in the storage room of the camping shop. The dark haired man gently refused when the kids tried to share with him, citing that he had already eaten. In all truth, Doyun was anxious. While keeping watch, he had spied a great number of strange creatures that roamed the streets outside. He wasn't sure what they were but concluded that they were probably dangerous and that he had to keep the kids away from them. What if these things decided to attack them and the kids- He anxiously glanced around the room, trying to occupy his mind with something other than the pitfall it was spiraling into. Doyun knew he was being unreasonably worried about the children when they had only met the day prior. They weren't his kids for god'
