Interlude Henri Arc Part 2

"I thought the State Socialists didn't need a monarch?" I asked as he handed me a glass of water.

"Make no mistake, Your Highness, you will be a figurehead. You will be Kaiser in name, and your children will inherit when you pass, but you will have no power. The State Socialist Party is the steward of the people, leading them into a bright, prosperous future. You will be a figurehead, restoring honor and pride to an empire that has lacked its emperor."

The ambassador pulled himself a glass of wine. "Is that Aquitese?" I asked.

The ambassador smiled. "Liorenaise. I must admit, I am partial to Liorenaise wines."

"It is one of the best vineyards in the empire," I agreed.

The ambassador nodded. "Indeed, Your Highness."

Was this a wise move for them? Or for us? As long as they kept me locked away from power, the State Socialists could cancel their debts without risk of invasion from our side. Which would leave them free to battle Roslachny for their Africa

Interlude Hans Wagner 3"So, no longer a panzer operator?" Erwin said, taking a drag of the cigarette I had given him. It was a long and deep inhale and he looked like a smoke stack when he let his breath out."Why? Operating the new hardware is a prestigious posting. Why did you become an infantryman?"I took my own drag of the cigarette, deciding how best to answer. It wasn't fear that held me back from telling the truth, but embarrassment. The truth had been, the tanks were too hot. I had been sweating through my uniform in the hours of going from point A to point B. Even in the firefights, I couldn't stand how hot it got. I wasn't going to tell my best friend. "I just wanted a change of scenery."I could tell he didn't believe that, but he didn't push it either. Erwin was kind like that. "Enjoying your smoke?"He gave me a wry grin. "How could you tell?" he asked, flicking the ashes away."That's your third one. In a row. What's wrong, you addicted or something? The Gestapo don't h

Interlude SashaSasha was having a pleasant day. She had grown used to the violence and the constant death that seemed to dog her every step while she flew, so days she could spend safely on the ground were her favorites.Prince Calixte was visiting Karafuto Prefecture and his future third wife, which gave Sasha free time. They wouldn't fly without him. She felt a little guilty about it, but she started longing for the days he wasn't around. The days when she wouldn't be risking her life. She was putting the finishing touches on a letter home when Bian found her. It had been almost a year since she had last been home. Her family came from a small hunting village in the Anji mountain range on the Prussian border. In the Great War, it had been completely untouched. The Prussians bypassed the mountain range entirely, thankfully. The war had ended shortly before she was born. From her parent's last letter, she knew the soldiers had come back. To warn them of a possible evacuation. Aquitai

Below him, an intricate woven tapestry of summoning crest was woven together. Someone with the Blessing of Summons had to have created it, but it went beyond a mere blessing. This was talent. Whoever created this had studied their ass off to craft it. The blessing was only one part. When she walked in, he knew it was her. She wore a white robe that hide her face. It had golden woven through it, in familiar patterns. Now that made sense. The House of Light was primordially an academic society in nature. They bowe

Calixte XI still wasn't over the whole kidnapping thing, but Kaya decided that I needed a tour of Nayoshi. I thought we were in the capital Toyomari, but when she kidnapped me, she had us taken to Nayoshi. If Karafuto prefecture had a party capital, I'm told Nayoshi would be it. Not only did it have the largest Oyashima red light district outside of Meiji, but it was designed to be a resort city. It reminded me of the picture of Japan I had seen in the eights, only as if there was an art deco 1920s filter applied over it.I tried to stay mad at her and I wasn't about to forget the whole kidnapping business, but as he drove through Nayoshi, I found myself in anime weeb heaven, if only in the wrong era. What I could only call precursors to figurines were displayed in shop windows, cute Oyashimese girls dressed as maids (some of the more risque kind) dotted the streets and tried to lure people in off the streets. It was a strange combination of imperial and modern Japan and honestly, at

I had been trying to wrangle an apology from her for a few hours now and she willingly gave it up? Or maybe she was apologizing about something else? The sorry might have been in a different language, but it sure came slowly. It sounded like she wasn't used to apologizing. She was a princess, so who would she have to apologize to?"I thought it would be funny, to have you kidnapped." I opened my mouth, but she plowed ahead. "And it was. Very funny."I gave her a look. "That doesn't seem very apologetic to see."Princess Kaya shrugged. "What can I say? It was funny and to pretend it was not would be lying. I am sorry if I have caused you any distress. It got away from me."Got away from her? That was one way to put it. "I don't think it was very funny.""You're not on this side.""I suppose not." I wasn't th

I got a good reception on my first chapter for my new story, so I've decided to post the second here. I might post a third preview chapter, but no more than 3.Chapter IIIt took me a month before I accepted the fact that I was reincarnated. Or reborn, or whatever you wanted to call it. This wasn't some fever dream as I lay dying in a bus on the side of the road. I wasn't imagining this.I had become a baby. A freaking baby. A fate worse than death. Can you imagine it? Being fully aware of the world, being an adult, trapped in the body of an infant? My body wouldn't listen to me. I couldn't understand what my parents were saying and even if I could, I could not speak. When I tried speaking English, only gibberish came out.I couldn't eat solid food, my mother fed me from her tit. My mother was beautiful and I didn't know she was my mother in those first, few days, but I couldn't enjoy it. I was too hungry when she fed me. It felt like I was always hungry. I had died a virgin and this

Tomorrow, it's back to Arc ChroniclesChapter IIIWhen I was two years old, my family changed forever. My parents had been trying for years for another child and at last, they had her, a little girl named Vivienne. Though we were both combinations of our parents, she was the opposite of me: I had my mother's green eyes and my father's blonde hair. Vivienne had our mother's brunette hair and our father's blue eyes. It was a joyous occasion all around; I had been an only child in my last life, but now I had a sibling, a little sister. My parents doted on her and I fall in the same way. After my last life, I was eager to play the role of a big brother. I'd make sure nothing ever happened to her.A year later, our small family was blessed again and I was given a little brother. My parents named him Henri, and he looked nothing like us. He had a head full of black hair and eyes a bri

Okay, I know I said last chapter, but I want to drum up interest, so one last chapter. Tomorrow arc chronicles returns, but with these four chapters, I hope you consider reading when I post this story on webnovel!Chapter IVThe end of my quiet, peaceful life came in the form of the Praetorian Guard. These days, they serve the ruling emperor or empress, but in my childhood, they protected and served the Aquroyan Senate.Until that moment, I had only seen legionnaires. No, I shouldn't call them that. The men that came to speak with my mother, who sometimes took her with them, weren't legionnaires. They were from the local garrison, not even adventurers. They had a few pieces of loose armor, but most of them wore cloth and rags. The weapons they had were rusted and old as if they had been left in the elements for years. Or they never got washed after a battle.I was out in the forest when they came. I was practicing swinging a metal sword. It was a few days until my twelfth birthday and

The hail of gunfire was deflected from the shields and all the focus was on them.Rolo and Sasha followed, making another loud entrance, to draw the rest of their attention.I was sneaking in last. As the room was filled with the sounds of bullets and magic, I sprinted in under the power of a cloaking spell. It should have been called a camouflage spell because that's what it did. In the chaos of the assault, no one was going to notice me sneaking in.The plan played out perfectly. As I slinked in pressing myself to the wall, I looked around for her. For my enemy. This was the freshest memory I had ever gone back to.The dark figure formed a black ink sword out of its arm. It was large and bulky, and it pointed it at us. Before I could react, the creature leaped forward. Despite how bulky his sword was, it moved like a fucking ghost. Before I could defend myself, it was right in front of me. Its sword-arm gleamed in the light and he struck me in the chest full on.The question was, how did I get into this memory? The woman in that room must have been the one assailing me, but how did she do it? Still, it didn't sit right with her."Where are they?" she demanded of him. Master Shadow had half a mind to run over and peer into the ball herself, but she didn't have the spells to work it. So she was left standing there, waiting."They just left the room," he said quickly. He didn't want to draw her anger, which proved he had a brain in his head."Where are the prince and the other one going?""They're heading towards the other intruders."Master Shadow rubbed her chin. They wanted to link up, did they? Her instinct wasn't to allow that, but it might be better. If she could cripple the prince in dreams and memories...But she had already tried that. He was resisting and the protection he put around his mind was strong. She could pierce him one more time, but after that, she wouldn't have enough power left. One last time and
