“You are going to hear from me today. In your next life, you will not dare offend me!” Liam screamed. He went in and asked for a towel from the life guards. He came out with the towel and kept pacing to and fro, waiting for his men to arrive and beat the hell out of Jake. But the next time he looked at the entrance, he saw able bodied young men coming in his direction. And they pulled along a middle aged man whom he could recognise at any time. His father! This was a man who was feared and respected in Shawlands. Yet, he was held by some riff raffs.“Hey! How dare you…” he began but was cut short with a slap from one of the men. “Shut up your mouth. And you better kneel and apologize right now!” “What? I will never! Wait. My men are coming and you will be the ones to get on your knees! Do you know who I am? Goodness gracious. What insolence!” he continued. “Dad! Why will they keep you here? Are they mad? Do they know who you are?”“Quiet or I'll have you slapped again,” the man thr
There was someone else who was angry with Jake's existence. That person was Amelia. This useless son in law of hers had outsmarted her and stolen her company from her. There was no way in hell she was going to let him get away with it. It didn't matter to her that he had gotten the best lawyers in the country to sign and seal the document. She was going to get the company back in her own way. She recalled the stunned look on her children's faces that day she announced that the company had been bought by another person. Everything came rushing to her memory as if it happened that day. “Mum! What happened in there? How can you say that someone else has bought the company? After all our hardwork and effort to get this exhibition put together. The proceeds alone would have made us one of the top five wealthy families!” Josie cried. “I'm sorry. It was unexpected but I will do my best to get the company back,” she promised. “Get it back? How do you intend to do that? We have already los
When he opened his eyes, he found himself alone in a room, his hands and feet were bound with strong ropes. His phone was no where to be found.“It's good you are awake,” a man whom he hadn't noticed earlier said. Jake looked in his direction and saw that two men were standing at one end of the room. “What happened? Where am I?” he asked. This question caused the men to laugh loudly. “We finally caught you in our den, you dog! You got our men injured and there's no way you are getting away with it.”He signalled his colleague and he bowed and left the room. When he reappeared, he was with a paper and beautiful pen. He pushed Jake roughly and said,“Sign this if you want to get out of this place alive!”Jake looked at the paper and frowned deeply. The Kent family were out to step on his toes again. Those foolish people haven't learnt their lessons yet. “I will never sign that.”As soon as the words left his mouth, the man who gave him the paper gave him a hot slap on his face. Jake'
These men looked at each other and kept calm. They all waited for their leader, Roger to speak. No one wanted to be in his bad books and the person who ratted him away about the phone knew he was soon to be dead. That's if he would survive the pain from Tim and his men. When he didn't get any answer, Tim ordered his men to flog them mercilessly. Yet, Roger didn't speak. This was the rule of the game. You don't give away your sponsor if you make mistakes in the deal. Moreover, Roger knew how schemy Amelia could be and he didn't want to incur her wrath. “What's this? What did you want to make him sign? Kent group?” One man asked. He has gone into the other room where he found the paper and the pen.“Did you say Kent group?” Tim asked. “Yes boss. Kent group is written on this paper. It means they are working for them. Maybe they want something from him.”“That settles it. When we are done with them, we will pay the Kent family a visit. For now, beat them and don't show any mercy!” Tim
Jake was woken by the door bell. His grandfather had personally sent someone to deliver his clothes to him. The clothes were made from the best materials and sewn by the best designers. It was a bespoke black attire consisting of a tailored peak tuxedo jacket adorned with intricate stitching and subtle embroidery. It also had matching trousers and a crisp white shirt, with detachable collar and french cuffs. The white shirt had slim silver and gold cufflinks and shirt stud set. A black bow tie was designed in a subtle manner to accompany the clothes. Finally, there was a golden wristwatch and a very beautiful pair of shoes to match. At a single glance, one could tell that the clothes cost way above six figures. Jake was rendered speechless at the sight of these clothes. It was like he was in a whole new world altogether. The clothes were fabulous and everything about it screamed perfection. Jake had never owned nor worn a cloth this beautiful in his entire life. Apart from the clothes
As the crowd looked around, waiting for the mysterious grandson and heir to stand, one person was spotted standing. He looked nothing close to a Frederick. He was putting on very simple clothes. He wore t-shirt and a pair of trousers with a pair of fine sneakers. He looked decent just like any ordinary man but a lot of people in the hall were all better dressed than him. His clothes didn't even cost up to a hundred dollars! “Huh? This lad?”“Sit down dude! I'm sure you didn't hear them well!”Isn't that the Kent family son in law? Why is he standing?”“Look at Amelia's son in law. That's him, right?”“Someone should put his ass on his seat! This is no time for loosers to seek attention please. He should not try such before important people and men.”Mumurs rent the air as Jake stood up and a few of them found their way straight to his ears. Everyone still thought of him as a loser and he had no intentions of proving them wrong. He walked out of his seat and took the microphone.“Good
The drive to summer estate where Jake lived wasn't supposed to be a long one. But the cold and frightful atmosphere in the car made it a long one. An air of uncertainty and dread hung in the air. Even the driver was scared of facing Grandfather Ashley. No one dared stare or even get a glimpse of his face in his anger. The car pulled to a halt and the driver hurriedly opened the door for the angry man. He stepped out and stomped his walking stick so hard on the floor that the driver felt it would break. Grandfather Ashley walked straight to the door and rang the doorbell after which, the door was opened and he was ushered into the house. From where he stood at the balcony, Jake saw his grandfather's car drive in and also noticed the fury with which the old man stepped down. He knew what was coming and he braced himself up for it. Even while they were still at the public gallery, Jake didn't miss the shock on his grandfather's face when he introduced himself as a representative of the
Grandfather Ashley looked at him and said nothing. After some time, he finally said,“Get out of my sight!”“Grandfather, how much of a rebel was my mother, tell me. I want to know.”“Your mother is the first and only problem this family ever had! If only your father listened and didn't marry her, we would not have such issues. Now, I'm asking you to marry who's right for you and you want to disobey that. Never! It must be the Grant family and that's final!”With that, grandfather turned and took his leave, leaving Jake to ponder on his words. His grandfather just said his mother was the first problem the family had. How? And how did his father's marriage become a problem? Did his father reject an arranged marriage too? It also seemed to him that his grandfather had a deep hatred for his mother. This was evident in the way he frowned and gritted his teeth when he was talking about her. Jake promised himself that he would get to the root of the matter. “Once I'm done with some people
