Chapter 5

“ it’s time, Get up.” The voice of the system rang in Mave’s head and he immediately jolted awake again.

He looker around as he forced his eyes open and realized that he had fallen asleep. He gritted his teeth in annoyance, for he felt that he shouldn’t have fallen asleep but should have been awake doing better things. 

He heard screams and people crying and riotous commotion and he knew immediately that it had begun. The first wave of the awakening, when low level monsters appeared out of nowhere and began mauling people down.

He stood up and looked down from the ledge of the rooftop he was on and saw people being chased by grotesque looking creatures that looked like animals,  some four legged and some two legged,  others crawled like snakes and millipedes on the ground. 

He also so a few dead bodies sprawled on the ground. Some missing limbs and appendages and he sighed, knowing that it was from this point the world needed the awakened heroes at first, but none had awakened.

Mave recalled correctly that, a few people died to the monsters before the military arrived and dealt with them, but even then the military incurred a lot of loses. There was no way modern day techs could go up against these monsters, even though they were of very low levels, the awakened humans was the only way to successfully deal with them.

Mave focused his sight on one of the monsters chasing down a man. The monster was like a dog, but it was black and had a large eyes. The moment he focused on the monsters, it’s stats popped up and Mave immediately read it. “Monster (nameless), E class, level 4.” 

‘Even a monster of this level and easily overpower an armed military personnel’ he thought, but something still bothered him.

‘The level of this monsters are high compared to last time. Last time it started with F class level 1, hence why we were able to easily dispatch them even without being an Awakened. E class Level 4 only came after we had been awakened and could stand up to them.

“Hmm, what is going on right now?” Mave asked himself and he hoped the system would have answers for him, but there it did not say anything. 

Mave just kept watching from his elevated position, and thinking of what to do. 

“last time, I was in school when the fog and monsters appeared. And I killed my first F class level 1 monster while defending my friends.” At the mention of the word ‘friends’ his eyes widened 

“my friends, I should be in school to save them” 

Mave said and then immediately dashed off to school, praying that it was not too late. 

Mave arrived at school, coming in through the back, where he had followed Out before. The school was completely silent and he could not find anyone around. 

‘Everyone is probably hiding from the monsters like the did last time.’

He saw blood stains on the floor and he knew that some monsters had already broken in. 

Mave heard a scream from one of the class rooms and he sprinted off towards the direction of the scream. As he ran across the hall way, he looked ahead and he saw a dog like monsters trying to break into one of the class room doors, and the people inside were screaming in fear. The monster was scratching the door relentlessly and was at the verge of breaking in, when it noticed Mave coming and stopped to faced him. 

Back then, Mave would have been scared and ran away, but This time around, he was not. Before he was reincarnated, he had fought and killed monsters much worse and dangerous than this, so there was no way it could scare him again.

The monster ditched its attempt to break in to the door and leaped at Mave, running to him to kill him. Maverick as well kept running to it,  he focused on it and saw its stats “Monster (no name), F class, Level 5” and he immediately knew he could take it. He looked to the side of the door the monster charged from and saw a mop stick and he immediately knew what to do.

“”Put your skills to use”” The system said to Mave and nodded. 

Just a some meters away from the monster, the monster leapt at Mave with its sharp claws and Mave activated one of his skills “Enhanced action” and he ducked, sliding underneath the monster at a faster pace, and the monster almost appeared to be moving in slow motion. The moment he avoid the monster as it leaped past him he reached for the mop stick, broke it and held it like a spear and immediately he activated his second skill “Enhanced strike”. When he activated it, he launched the make shift spear at the monster with all his strength and it shot out like an arrow from a bow at high speeds,  and impaled the monster in the guts and it growled and died immediately.

“wow!”

Mave exclaimed in surprise as he looked a his hand and then back at the dead monster. 

“this skill wasn’t this effective before, what just happened?” he asked himself in surprise as he went closer to the dead creature to examine it.

“”I happened, I have augmented all of your capabilities to make them more efficient. Right now, your skills are only a reflection of your class and level, the More your class and level increases, they will get more better as well”” the System said to Mave. 

“that is awesome.” Mave said in excitement, knowing that last time, at this level he might have struggled to pull of this kind of skill, almost impossible even.

“”Now Mave, extend your ring to the body of the monster”” the system instructed. 

Mave did as instructed and immediately he was prompted with a new status as he looked at the monster 

“New skill unlocked: Energy absorption” 

And as he got that notification, the ring immediately began to absorb the energy left in the monster he had killed and as he did,  his stats increased as well. “Maverick, E class, level 7” 

‘Wow,  my level increased as well.’ Mave said as he looked at the ring that was now glowing red faintly and he felt himself become a little bit stronger.

“”Yes, so make sure you gain more energy from as many monsters as possible. Although low level monsters like this can not give you anything significant. Aim for higher monsters”

“noted” Mave smirked and knew that he was going to become very powerful unlike in his past life. 

Mave went to the door and opened it  He saw some of the school students hiding in fear inside, even some of the teachers but yet he did not still find his friends Jiren and Talia.

‘just where could they be?’ He thought and then he remembered where he saved them last time. 

“the kitchen”

Immediately he remembered he ran off even before the other students could thank him for saving them.
