"Are these your clothes?"

"Yes... Thank you."

"Why were you naked?"

What was Kyle even supposed to reply to that? That he took off his clothes because it was liberating that his life was about to end? Or that he was deliberately trying to kill himself? Which one would be the more sane response?

"It's.." And when Kyle finally opened his mouth, the rescuer who handed him his clothes back was already gone. Kyle was already back on the Surface; right outside the dorm and being assessed for any injuries.

While everyone around him was running around. he was just asked to sit on the side and wait for instructions.

They gave him a pair of pants and a jacket, but they were too small so he wasn't even able to zip the jacket up. Fortunately for Kyle, they were at least able to give him a warm, damp towel to cover his head, which was throbbing like crazy earlier from the gravity shift upon returning to the Surface.

Now that he was looking at the Portal he fell into, he realized how small

The walk was suffocatingly quiet.Arachne walked stiffly ahead, her weakness obvious but her hatred palpable. Kyle followed close behind, the connection between them a silent leash. The rest of the team trailed further back, a tight knot of distrust and exhaustion.Gray kept glancing between Kyle and Arachne, his hand never far from his hammer. Christy nursed her wounded arm, her face grim. Jake and Luke stuck close together, whispering occasionally. May walked silently, but her gaze missed nothing.Jenna remained detached, watchful, her earlier outburst replaced by a chilling calm.Kyle could practically taste their unease, thick and sour in the air. He didn’t care. Let them doubt. He had the power, and he had the way out. They reached the waterfall maybe twenty minutes later. Water cascaded down a sheer rock face into a churning pool below, the sound echoing slightly in the cavernous space. Hidden behind the curtain of water was a dark cave entrance."In there," Arachne muttered, po

Christy cursed, ducking under a scything claw that sheared through the air where her head had been moments before. The mutated mantis-scorpion, whatever, shrieked, its segmented tail whipping around, dripping viscous green fluid."This thing’s hide is too damn thick!" she yelled, her blades flashing as she parried another blow, the impact jarring her bruised arm. Sweat plastered strands of hair to her face."Focus fire on the joints!" She saw an opening – a momentary gap where the leg met the thorax. She drove her right blade in, feeling resistance give way slightly. The monster shrieked again, not just in pain but rage. • Chapter 227: Arachne III

"Please... stop," Arachne whispered again, her voice barely audible. Kyle pushed himself to his feet, the wounds from their battle already healing as her stolen power coursed through him. The poison had almost completely dissipated from his system. "Stop?" He let out a harsh laugh. "After you tried to kill me? After you shot me in the back with poison?" She fell to her knees, her extra limbs drooping lifelessly. "The Queen... I was following orders." He circled her slowly, twirling his staff. "Ah yes, your Queen. Let’s talk about her." He reached down and grabbed her chin, forcing her to look up at him. The contact intensified the drain, causing her to whimper. Her skin had taken on an ashen pallor. "Where is she?" Her jaw clenched, defiance flashing through her fear. "I won’t... betray my Queen." Kyle tightened his grip, the silver lines on his arm pulsing brighter. "Let me explain your situation clearly. Right now, I’m taking your energy at a controlled rate. But I can accel

  • Chapter 226: Arachne II

Arachne didn’t wait. She blurred again, closing the distance instantly, but this time she didn’t commit to a single, powerful strike. Instead, she flowed around him, a whirlwind of dark limbs and flashing chitin. Her two priMay arms feinted high while her smaller, shoulder-mounted limbs stabbed low, aiming for his legs and joints. The speed was dizzying. Kyle reacted purely on instinct, his staff becoming an extension of his will. He blocked, parried, twisted, barely keeping the razor-sharp points from finding purchase. Sparks flew as chitin scraped against the metal staff. Each block sent jarring force up his arms, but he held his ground, his feet planted, his focus absolute. "Faster than you thought, human?" Her voice was a low hiss, seeming to come from multiple directions at once as she circled him. "Your clumsy stick can’t keep up." He didn’t reply, conserving breath, tracking her movements. She was right. Her speed was phenomenal, her attacks unpredictable, coming

  • Chapter 225: Arachne

Kyle landed lightly on another branch, his boots barely making a sound. For the last hour, he’d been moving through this section of twisted forest, deliberately making himself an obvious target. He vaulted from tree to gnarled outcrop, doubled back on his path, paused in open clearings – anything to draw out the watcher he knew was there. But whoever, or whatever, it was, remained hidden. The feeling of being observed was constant, prickling the back of his neck, amplified by his heightened senses. Yet, no attack came. No sound betrayed the stalker’s position. Just that unwavering focus fixed on him. He paused again, crouched low on a wide branch, scanning the shadows below. Nothing moved. The air was still, heavy with the dungeon’s dangerous atmosphere and the cloying scent of the terrain. This was getting ridiculous. He was wasting time playing hide-and-seek when his team was trapped somewhere behind him, relying on him to find a way out. His patience snapped. He straight
