Chapter 13: Grass Removal

His schedule was about the same as yesterday. But not before filling his stomach to the brim to compensate for skipping his dinner last night. After he had his fill, Chen Tu made his way to the Mission Hall in a hurry.

After all, this was his second day here in this Blood Refining Grotto. Thanks to the practice where all transactions require Contribution Token to proceed, how can Chen Tu stay idle without looking for things to do?

Not doing anything was the luxury of well-to-do disciples, and not him. Unlike them, he had neither a good background nor a supporter standing tall behind him.

Chen Tu would likely be drowned by the disciple's spit if his thought was known by the others.

Because he was illiterate, it greatly hindered Chen Tu's process in picking a work to do. He had no choice but to go for something nobody would go for. Reaching his hand out on one of the papers, Chen Tu asked people to read the work on his behalf.

It turned out that the assignment paper he had gotten was a job to clean the Spiritual Garden. The payment for this assignment is one Contribution Token for each plot of Spiritual Garden, and the quota is at least three plots in one day.

Due to the heavy workload and small return, it was an unpopular job amongst the disciples. Furthermore, this job can be repeated limitlessly, as the Spiritual Garden would be full of weed again after a or two.

Added to the fact most of the disciples here were young masters and ladies from proper families with solid backgrounds, how could they opt for these duties? They would feel embarrassed if forced to do these types of work.

Unless they're desperate for Contribution Tokens, they would likely choose to wait until a suitable assignment is available.

Since he wasn't picky about his assignment, Chen Tu hurriedly made his way to the Spiritual Garden. He had no choice but to ask for directions because he was illiterate. This made Chen Tu decides to focus on learning how to write and read first.

After about half an hour or so, he finally came to where the Spiritual Garden was at. There are over forty plots here, separated into four different sections.

Each section had its own specialties, and the Crimson Marble Fruit Chen Tu had seen before was one of them. There are other Spiritual Herbs, such as Spirit Calming Grass, Highland Flower, and Burial Roots, growing in three different sections.

These herbs were necessary to concoct a medicine known as Spiritual Replenishing Pill. It was a common-tier pill suitable for consumption by those in Body Tempering Layer. They were also considered one of the few cultivating resources that could speed up the leveling process of a cultivator.

In this Blood Refining Grotto, the Spiritual Replenishing Pill was a part of the monthly cultivating aid distributed to the disciples.

Depending on their ranking in this Outer Grotto, the three strongest disciples naturally got the most out of the batch, around 300 to 500, or mixed with other medicines of equivalent value.

Those in the top ten usually receive around 100 pills per person and 50 for the rest within the top one hundred spots.

The rest of the disciples would receive around three to four Spiritual Replenishing Pills according to their cultivation level. Following this practice, Chen Tu would likely get just a single pill due to his lousy cultivation strength.

Luckily, it was just the second day of the month. That also means Chen Tu still had twenty-eight days to further his cultivation level before the next distribution date of cultivating resources.

Unlike those who came with a sour expression, Chen Tu immediately started to work after registering his name with the recording disciple. The process was necessary to ensure he got paid at the end of the day.

Moving straight to the three plots of the Spiritual Garden he was responsible for, Chen Tu yanks the weed swiftly like a rabbit.

As a former slave servant for the Chen Family, these chores were something they did daily. Compared to those that came here unwillingly, Chen Tu was more accepting and earnest in his work.

He moves from one row to the next without missing a single root or weed as he goes. His speed was also doubled compared to the others, like the job was created especially for him alone.

A few people shifted their attention to him, looking at how hardworking this newcomer was. It even caught the attention of the elder responsible for the Spiritual Garden.

"Qin Lei... Who is that brat?" the elder asked. When someone reaches his cultivation level, all it takes is a glimpse to inspect the result of their effort. His gaze curiously lands on Chen Tu, as it is rare to see someone as hardworking as him.

Many disciples were clueless that this assignment was considered one of the easiest jobs offered by the Mission Hall. Unlike the rest, which had a strict requirement on time and target, the duty of pulling some weed was solely dependent on the disciple's own speed.

The faster and more seriously they work, the quicker they finish. And even if they took their own sweet time, three hours are all it takes to complete the three plots of Spiritual Garden.

It was a Contribution Token open for grabs. Still, most disciples usually overlooked this and went for something that seemed more profitable. Ultimately, it benefitted someone like Chen Tu, who gave in all his effort instead of being calculative.

The display of such an attitude made the elder favor him even more.

"Answering the elder's question, that disciple's name is Chen Tu, registered two days ago. This job is likely the first one he took." the one called Qin Lei answered.

He was the elder's favorite and appointed assistant managing the disciples around the Spiritual Garden. He's also the disciple responsible for the recording and plot distribution.

Furthermore, Qin Lei had a special position in this Outer Grotto. He was a member of the top hundred list, with the strength of the seventh level in the Body Tempering Layer.

"Tu, as in rabbit?" the elder rubbed his chin in curiosity.
