Chapter 18: Crimson Tailed Pheasant

"Take this just as a reminder from me... Make sure you don't waste too much money on those things they're selling on this floor. I understand that you might be curious about them, but most of them are useless later on." said Qin Lei as his hand pointed at a few stalls and their attractive banners.

The goods they sell, such as ten-year-old White Ginseng and Ganoderma, apparently are fakes made from R****h and Mutated Black Fungus.

"Also, unless you know what you're buying, do not simply trust everything you're told. If things look too good to be true, then it's likely a fake or low-quality goods." Qin Lei added before feeling that all these pieces of advice were enough for today.

Anything more than this will make Qin Lei look overly concerned, which wouldn't be good for their recently built friendship.

"This junior understands. Thank you, senior brother." Chen Tu nodded and watched as Qin Lei left the building. After he ensured Qin Lei was gone, he immediately made his way to one of the stalls.

The stall caught his attention when he accompanied Qin Lei to the upper floor. But only now he had the opportunity to approach the booth to inquire about the price for particular goods he knew very well.

"Can I help you with anything, fellow disciple?" the stall owner approaches Chen Tu with a smile. Buying or not, everyone who comes to his stall is considered a potential customer.

After all, who could be so spendthrift to pay one Contribution Token just to window shopping?

"Is that Crimson-Tailed Pheasants inside that trap basket?" Chen Tu points his finger at the cage with three fowls. From scanning the three fowl's heads, one of them had an average-looking crown, while there were none on the other two.

This means there's a cock in there, along with two hens. If they're fertile, the two hens should be capable of laying eggs after Chen Tu brought them back to the small farming land distributed to each disciple.

"Yes, fellow disciple. The three birds in that cage are indeed the Crimson-Tailed Pheasants. Are you interested in buying them? They're very cheap, only fifteen Spiritual Coins for all three." replied the stall owner. He immediately brought up an outrageous price for the three birds.

(Do you have a blood clot in your brain? The three birds here would cost six Spiritual Coins in nearby towns. But over here, you're asking fifteen coins for them?)

Chen Tu shook his head and decided to leave. After all, Chen Tu only received two hundred and fifty Spiritual Coins from Chen Zigang, which are considered his living expenses here. Even if he could afford them, he wouldn't.

Added to the fact that these two hundred fifty Spiritual Coins would have to last until Chen Tu could earn his own money, it would be reckless to waste them on a few birds.

"Brother, wait!" the stall owner panicked when Chen Tu decided to leave without leaving a word to him. He immediately stops Chen Tu and hopes he's willing to discuss the price. If this customer leaves at this time, won't he end up without a single sale today?

"Was the price too high? What about ten Spiritual Coins, then?" the owner changed his mind and suggested a friendlier price than before.

"It wasn't easy to bring the three Crimson-Tailed Pheasants here, fellow brother. Ten Spiritual Coins for the birds here is worth every penny you're paying for..." the owner's words are slightly exaggerated. Still, there's a part of truth in between.

Even in Crimson River Town, the number of Crimson-Tailed Pheasants is limited for purchase. The Chen Family could only enjoy this meat delicacy during the festival. Unless a family tried to rear their birds for a year or two, it would be impossible to supply enough pheasants for family consumption.

(Ten Spiritual Coins... This can be considered now...)

Chen Tu nodded slightly. After all, it is just a single coin higher than the price others are paying.

As long he was successful in rearing the birds, they would quickly provide Chen Tu with a source of income shortly. While the profit margin wouldn't be ridiculously high, there are still five to ten Spiritual Coins monthly.

Of course, if he succeeded.

There's no promise that the endeavor will be successful. But at least Chen Tu tried. At most, he would only lose ten Spiritual Coins if he failed.

"Fine. I'll buy it." Chen Tu reluctantly accepted. But it was an expression deliberately made to avoid the stall owner changing his mind when Chen Tu agreed with the price so quickly. This purchase is actually quite considerate, as it benefitted both sides.

After paying for the birds, Chen Tu continued to look around before accepting the fact there was nothing else that caught his interest.

With only an hour to go before dinner, Chen Tu quickly made his way to the back of the disciple's building. This place is where the disciples are given some space to do what they like in their free time.

But this place was underutilized since most people here were young masters from well-to-do families. As a precious young master of the family, how could they waste their precious time to rear pheasants and plant their own vegetables?

Luckily, setting up a house for the Crimson-Tailed Pheasants was simple. There are plenty of things for use over here, and each spot had a fence to keep their belongings separate from the others.

After setting up the place for the three birds, Chen Tu brought the grasses he removed from the Spiritual Garden this morning and used them as feed. Thanks to the nutrient from the Spiritual Garden, these grasses appeared like a nutritious food for the three Crimson-Tailed Pheasants.

(Alright then... Grow up well, you guys...)

Chen Tu smiled before making his way to the canteen, grabbing some food, and finishing them before returning to his room and continuing to cultivate.

Today was quite a long day for him.

Furthermore, he was impatient thanks to the drop of Sun and Moon Essence within his body.
